"Authorities raid suspected drug lab" by Matt Byrne, Globe Correspondent

Nantucket Police earlier this week raided a laboratory equipped to produce the hallucinogenic drug ecstasy and seized drugs, cash, and equipment, said Detective Lieutenant Jerry W. Adams.

Although the lab on Evergreen Way was not in operation, officers seized a large amount of the recreational drug GHB, a computer, a car, more than $2,900 in cash and equipment and materials to produce ecstasy, Adams said.

The 3 p.m. bust Wednesday concluded a three-month investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Cape Cod Drug Task Force, the State Police Drug Task Force, and Nantucket detectives, Adams said.

David Lemberg, 32, of Nantucket, was arrested and charged with attempting to manufacture a Class B substance, ecstasy, and possession with intent to distribute a class A substance, GHB. Each charge could carry a 10-year sentence in state prison, police said.

Lemberg was released on $2,500 cash bail and is due to be arraigned Monday in Nantucket, Adams said. A team from the DEA dismantled the lab Thursday, police said.

"Nantucket police find apparent drug lab

NANTUCKET — A local man was arrested for allegedly manufacturing ecstasy and selling the club or "rave" drug GHB after police found an apparent drug lab in his Evergreen Way home Wednesday.

David Lemberg, 32, of 27B Evergreen Way was charged with attempting to manufacture ecstasy and possession with intent to distribute of gamma hydroxy butyric acid, or GHB, following the execution of a search warrant at his home at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Police found a lab in one of the rooms of Lemberg's house that included materials and equipment capable of making ecstasy (methylenedioxy-methamphetamine), Nantucket police Lt. Jerry Adams said.

Ecstasy is chemically similar to the stimulant methamphetamine and the hallucinogen mescaline, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency's Web site. Adams declined to say what chemicals were found in Lemberg's lab.

Police also seized a "significant" amount of GHB, $2,900 in cash, a computer, and a motor vehicle. Lemberg was released on $2,500 cash bail and is scheduled for arraignment Monday.

Funny, NEVER HEARD ABOUT IT AGAIN, can you believe it?

Because of the presence of caustic and toxic chemicals in Lemberg's home, the DEA's Clandestine Lab Removal Team dismantled the lab yesterday, Adams said.
