Quick Oil Slick Report

Reaching the point where I no longer want to read the oily lies the Boston Globe.

Update:
Scientists: Gulf spill now far bigger than Valdez

"maybe as much as 39 million gallons"

And the
TOP KILL DID NOT WORK!

But BP is on the case

"BP opted for riskier casing for well, document shows; Effort to plug spill going as planned, BP says" by Ian Urbina, New York Times | May 27, 2010

WASHINGTON — Several days before the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, BP officials chose, partly for financial reasons, to use a type of casing for the well that the company knew was the riskier of two options, according to a BP document.

If the cement around the casing pipe — used to line the well — did not seal properly, gases could leak all the way to the wellhead, where only a single seal would serve as a barrier.

Using a different type of casing would provide two barriers, according to the document, which was provided to The New York Times by a congressional investigator.

Workers from the rig and company officials have said that hours before the explosion, gases were leaking through the cement, which had been set in place by the oil services contractor, Halliburton. Investigators have said these leaks were the likely cause of the explosion....

"Kerry backs president on handling of Gulf spill" by Matt Viser, Globe Staff | May 27, 2010

WASHINGTON — Senator John Kerry yesterday aggressively defended President Obama’s handling of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, arguing that criticism of the president is “ridiculous’’ and adding that the environmental disaster illustrated the need to act on the Massachusetts Democrat’s comprehensive climate change bill.

If the president were George Bush it would be a different matter.

And CUI BONO, 'eh?

They NEVER CEASE with the AGENDA-PUSHING, 'eh?

That legislation includes a provision for the possible expansion of offshore drilling, part of a political bargain Kerry hopes will gain support for passage....

Still, he said, it would be unrealistic to think that drilling for oil will be curtailed any time soon....

“We’re not going to stop drilling in the gulf tomorrow, folks, let’s be realistic,’’ he added. “There are 48,000 wells out there, one of them went sour.’’

Being a LITTLE CAVALIER, isn't he?

Obama has come under fire from Republicans and some Democrats for his administration’s inability to end the crisis. In response, he is raising his profile in an attempt to show he is in command....

TOO LATE!

“We’re going to bring every resource necessary to put a stop to this thing,’’ Obama promised yesterday in California, where his stop at a solar energy plant was overshadowed by the latest efforts to cap the leaking oil well....

Oh, he is OUT in CALIFORNIA -- just like BUSH was in ARIZONA when KATRINA HIT!

That is your CHANGE you elected, America!

And the future of the region?

"The population of counties situated along the Gulf of Mexico is rising sharply, but demographers warn the trend won’t last because of a constant threat of hurricanes and uncertainty over the current oil spill....

Would you want to live or visit there now?
