Let's Talk About Iran's Nukes

"The 20 percent level is enough to produce fuel for a medical research reactor but far below the more than 90 percent-enriched uranium required to build fissile material for nuclear warheads."

They AIN'T MAKING a BOMB, folks!

"Tehran signals it will seek new talks on nuclear plan" by Glenn Kessler, Washington Post  |  September 23, 2010

UNITED NATIONS — Iran increasingly appears willing to enter into negotiations over its nuclear program, diplomats close to the talks said yesterday, a move that would restart a process that ended abruptly last fall.

USraeli war mongers can't have that!

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran earlier this week expressed interest in renewing talks with the United States and other major powers. Iranian officials have privately echoed that sentiment in conversations with diplomats on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, leading officials to believe Tehran will soon formally agree to resume talks.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and her counterparts from Russia, China, Britain, France, and Germany met yesterday to discuss the prospects for negotiations and to review the implementation of sanctions the UN Security Council imposed on Iran in June. In a statement, the officials stressed their interest in a reaching a deal with Tehran.

“We reaffirmed our determination and commitment to seek an early negotiated solution to the Iranian nuclear issue and focused our discussion on further practical steps to achieve it at an early date,’’ the ministers said in a statement read by Catherine Ashton, who is the European Union foreign policy leader and the chief negotiator with Iran for the major powers.

The statement did not suggest any new sanctions or other punitive steps on Iran if it failed to negotiate seriously, and diplomats said any discussion of new sanctions would be far in the future....

Why are they being talked about at all when Iran is reaching out and doing what the West wants?

Only one reason I can think of.

"US, Iran signal possibility of resuming nuclear talks; Ahmadinejad’s remarks bring a walkout at UN" by Farah Stockman, Globe Staff  |  September 24, 2010

UNITED NATIONS — The issue of Iran’s nuclear program was little more than a footnote in President Obama’s wide-ranging, 35-minute speech before the United Nations yesterday. But behind the scenes, US and Iranian officials appeared to be engaging in preliminary efforts to reopen talks to resolve what many consider the greatest global threat: a nuclear-armed Iran.

Your Zionist war propaganda front-and-center and framing the agenda, Americans.

And they called it a newspaper.

“The door remains open to diplomacy should Iran choose to walk through it,’’ Obama said in his speech, devoting a mere 160 words to the Islamic Republic in his nearly 4,000-word speech. “But the Iranian government must demonstrate a clear and credible commitment, and confirm to the world the peaceful intent of its nuclear program.’’

Tell it to ISRAEL, a**hole!

Wow, less than two years in and I already am more disgusted with this guy than Bush.

Publicly, Iran’s reaction was decidedly mixed.

Hours after Obama spoke, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran took the podium and railed against the United States, prompting US and European diplomats to walk out of the assembly hall....

Yeah, and over 100 countries stayed and listened.

But his speech also left the door open for negotiations.

Containing Iran’s nascent nuclear program, which Iranians insist is peaceful but which the United States believes is aimed at obtaining weapons, has been a major foreign policy priority of Obama’s administration since he entered office....

So he has been WORKING for the ZIONISTS the WHOLE TIME, huh?

“You have got to hand it to the Obama administration. They have done a very good job with the sanctions,’’ said Michael Rubin, resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative Washington-based think tank. “The question that Americans have to ask is: Can we raise the cost so high that the Iranians back down?’’

Isn't it GREAT that OBAMA has received the SEAL of APPROVAL from AEI!?

And the QUESTIONS Americans SHOULD BE ASKING is WHY are we DESTROYING OURSELVES for the SAKE of ISRAEL?!!!!!!

**********

A slew of companies around the world are pulling out of Iran, giving the United States deeper leverage, according to Stuart Levey, the Treasury official at the helm of US sanctions, who has given a series of speeches portraying the sanctions as the best hope for stopping Iran’s nuclear program....

Whatever, U.S. propagandist.

And if those don't work?

Companies are also halting the supply of gasoline to Iran, pressuring the Iranian government to remove subsidies, a move that could increase the price five-fold, according to Mostafa Beshkar, assistant professor of economics at University of New Hampshire.

That is TERRORISM!

But Beshkar said it is unclear if the sanctions will push Ahmadinejad’s government to make a deal with the West on the nuclear program, since Ahmadinejad’s more radical rivals in Iran have attacked him for being too conciliatory toward the United States and Europe....

Ahmadinejad the MODERATE?

US officials are already working on a policy to contain Iran, should the effort to prevent it from obtaining nuclear weapons fail.

Good thing they AIN'T MAKING ONE, huh?

This week, US officials are preparing to seek congressional approval to sell 209 Patriot missile interceptors to Kuwait, a high-altitude missile defense system to the United Arab Emirates, and F-15 combat aircraft and attack helicopters to Saudi Arabia.

But Suzanne Maloney, senior fellow at the Saban Center at the Brooking Institution, a Washington-based think tank, who sometimes advises the State Department on Iran, said the weapons sale doesn’t “resolve the fundamental Iranian problem.’’

"Iran leader hints at shift on nuclear policy, talks; Enrichment halt called an option; 9/11 remarks at UN defended" by Ali Akbar Dareini and John Heilprin, Associated Press  |  September 25, 2010

NEW YORK — Iran would consider ending higher level uranium enrichment, the most crucial part of its controversial nuclear activities, if world powers send Tehran nuclear fuel for a medical research reactor, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said yesterday.

Addressing a packed press conference in a New York hotel, Ahmadinejad also said Iran was prepared to set a date for resumption of talks with six world powers to discuss Tehran’s nuclear program, saying October would be the likely time for the sides to meet....

Nope. Maybe November now -- if Iran is not attacked first.

See: Iran Interfering in Afghanistan

Yeah, the war propaganda is really being ratcheted up here.

Ahmadinejad said Iran had no interest in enriching uranium from around 3.5 percent to 20 percent purity but was forced to do so after the world powers refused to provide fuel needed for a Tehran reactor that produces medical isotopes.

That level is far below the more than 90 percent purity needed to build a nuclear weapon, but US officials have expressed concern Iran may be moving closer to an ability to reach weapons-grade level....

Yeah, DON'T let the FACTS stand in the way of WAR MONGERING!

“We were not interested to carry out 20 percent enrichment. They [the US and its allies] politicized the issue. We were forced to do it to support the [medical] patients,’’ Ahmadinejad said in response to a question....

Wouldn't you want YOUR SICK RELATIVE to be CARED FOR?

And wouldn't you HATE the PERSON WHO DENIED IT?

The Iranian leader said a representative of Iran will probably meet with members of the five permanent members of the Security Council — the United States, Britain, France, Russia, and China — plus Germany in October.

Not unless it is this weekend.

He suggested that a specific date could be set should European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton contact Iran....

Ball in your court, EU.

And this is no surprise considering what happened in Iraq:

TEHRAN — Iran acknowledged yesterday that some personnel at the country’s nuclear facilities were lured by promises of money to pass secrets to the West but insisted increased security and worker privileges have put a stop to the spying.

The U.S. used the U.N. inspection teams in Iraq as SPIES, folks!

The stunning admission by Vice President Ali Akbar Salehi provides the clearest government confirmation that Iran has been fighting espionage at its nuclear facilities.

Gee, who would want to spy on and sabotage Iran?

Recently, Iran announced the arrest of several nuclear spies and battled a computer worm that it says is part of a covert Western plot to derail its nuclear program.

That's one way.

In July, a nuclear scientist who Iran says was kidnapped by US agents returned home in mysterious circumstances, with the United States saying he was a willing defector who was offered $5 million by the CIA but then changed his mind....

And it might be TOO LATE to BOMB Bushehr -- unless you want to spread radiation over the Middle East and create another Chernobyl:

"Iran begins loading fuel at its first nuclear plant" by William Yong and Alan Cowell, New York Times  |  October 27, 2010

TEHRAN — Iran yesterday celebrated the start of loading 163 fuel rods into the core of its first nuclear power plant reactor, putting it within months of operation.

The Bushehr reactor, cast by Tehran as a showcase of its peaceful nuclear intentions, is separate from other, more contentious operations elsewhere where Iran is seeking to enrich uranium. But the timing is delicate in diplomatic terms....

The Bushehr reactor, designed for power generation and located in southern Iran, has a long and tangled history. Construction began in 1975 under a contract signed with West Germany, state-run Press TV reported yesterday, but West Germany withdrew from the project after the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Yeah, when it was the U.S.-imposed Shah nuclear power was pushed on Iran.

An agreement with Russia in 1995 should have been completed in 1999, but the plan fell prey to long delays.

The United States once opposed the plant. But the International Atomic Energy Agency monitors it, and the United States dropped its objections after Russia provided assurances of controls on the fuel supply and the disposal of spent fuel rods. Russia has agreed to take back the spent rods, removing the possibility that Iran could reprocess them for materials that could fuel a nuclear weapon.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton reiterated yesterday that the United States was not concerned with the Bushehr plant but with other sites.

“Our problem is not with their reactor at Bushehr; our problem is with their facilities at places like Natanz and their secret facility at Qom and other places where we believe they are conducting their weapons program,’’ Clinton said at the UN.

“Iran is entitled to the peaceful use of nuclear power,’’ she said. “They are not entitled to a nuclear weapons program.’’

That is ALL THEY WANT!

You have a PROBLEM with the other one?

GO TELL it to NUCLEAR-ARMED ISRAEL!

The Iranian government maintains that its program is for energy production and other peaceful uses. But with Iran having hidden elements of the program in the past and making no secret of its ambitions to increase its regional power, Western governments harbor deep suspicions that Tehran wants to build a nuclear weapon.
