Syrian Double Standard

"A US State Department spokesman, Mark Toner, said in a statement that Washington was alarmed by the violence and “deeply concerned by the Syrian government’s use of violence, intimidation, and arbitrary arrests....’’

Yeah, if OUR ALLIES in Bahrain and Yemen do it that's okay.  All we get is hot gas an hand-wringing from the administration.  (And if Israel does it to Palestinians, shhhhhhhhh)

And what exactly are we doing in Libya (AmeriKa's latest invasion using violence and intimidation)?  Playing tiddlywinks?

That State Department s***ter spewed what?

"15 dead in clashes in southern Syria" by Associated Press / March 24, 2011

DARAA, Syria — Syrian police launched a relentless assault yesterday on a neighborhood sheltering anti-government protesters, fatally shooting at least 15 in an operation that began before dawn, witnesses said.

How sad is it that I'm staring to doubt "witnesses" in my newspaper?

At least six were killed in the early morning attack on the al-Omari mosque in the southern agricultural city of Daraa, where protesters have taken to the streets in calls for changes and political freedoms, witnesses said.

Why should I believe unnamed witnesses in a lying, agenda-pushing, war-promoting, AmeriKan newspaper?

Maybe it all happened as they say; however, they lost the benefit of that doubt a long, long time ago. The continuous lying and obfuscations do not help.

Alas, this is what the AmeriKan people and the New England citizen are fed via or flagship newspaper of the region. No wonder it is dying.

An activist in contact with people in Daraa said police shot another three people protesting in its Roman-era city center after dusk. Six more bodies were found later in the day, the activist said.

Who is this "activist?"

Must be a CIA officer, otherwise the CIA paper would identify them, right?

Inspired by the wave of prodemocracy protests around the region, the uprising in Daraa and at least four nearby villages has become the biggest domestic challenge since the 1970s to the Syrian government, one of the most repressive in the Middle East.

Now I am smelling the stink of CIA and the Globe kicking neo-cons.

Security forces have responded with water cannon, tear gas, rubber bullets, and live ammunition. The total death toll stands at 22.

You know, the same stuff our friends in Bahrain and Yemen are using.

As the casualties mounted, people from the nearby villages of Inkhil, Jasim, Khirbet Ghazaleh, and al-Harrah tried to march on Daraa last night, but security forces opened fire as they approached, the activist said. It was not immediately clear if there were more deaths or injuries.

Democracy activists used social-networking websites to call for massive demonstrations across the country tomorrow, a day that they dubbed “Dignity Friday.’’

A US State Department spokesman, Mark Toner, said in a statement that Washington was alarmed by the violence and “deeply concerned by the Syrian government’s use of violence, intimidation, and arbitrary arrests to hinder the ability of its people to freely exercise their universal rights.’’

Oh, finally we get a name (in the form of an entity I can no longer listen).

Heavy shooting rattled Daraa throughout the day, and an Associated Press reporter in the city heard bursts of semi-automatic gunfire echoing in its old center in the early afternoon.

The reporter heard gunfire. That's it.
