New Cold War With Russia

I will give you one guess who got it started again.

"Putin remarks may hurt US-Russia ties" by Kathy Lally  |  Washington Post, February 18, 2012

MOSCOW - A nasty spate of anti-Americanism set off by Vladimir Putin has grown into waves of attacks aimed at the new American ambassador and Russian opposition leaders, raising questions about the future of US-Russian relations.

Putin is disliked by my agenda-pushing paper because he pushed to Jewish mafia out of Russia, among other reasons.

The attacks started just before the December parliamentary elections and have intensified as the March 4 presidential vote approaches. Although widely viewed as aimed primarily at a domestic audience, they have grown shriller and more aggressive, provoking debate about whether Russia is deliberately giving a cold shoulder to President Obama’s effort to promote more productive relations.

That paragraph is such a load of slanted s*** it's really hard to get your head around.

As for the war talk for domestic audiences, I've had enough over here in the form of presidential candidates and the agenda-driving mouthpiece media fawning over and forwarding Israel's agenda, thank you.

And the altruistic AmeriKa thing has really been plaaaaayed, WaPo.

A main target of the attacks is Michael McFaul, the new ambassador, a longtime democracy advocate and Russia expert who, as a top aide to Obama, has been an architect of what the White House calls a “reset’’ with Moscow.

The anti-American campaign bears trademark Soviet and KGB thinking, reflecting the mindset of many of the high-level officials appointed by Putin as well as their efforts to protect their power and privileges from the gathering opposition.

It's like looking into a mirror, ain't it, 'murkn?

US officials say that they understand internal politics are behind the fusillade but that the effect remains worrying, raising concern about whether Russia recognizes the extent of the possible damage, simply does not care, or is foreshadowing a change in foreign policy.

Does the U.S. realize the damage Israel will inflict on the relationship with its possible aggression against Iran?

“It’s getting to the point where it’s going to be hard to undo,’’ said one administration official in Washington who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the issue publicly....

Yeah, World Wars are like that.

Aren't there Russian ships in Syrian ports right now?

What we need is a good spy story!

"Russian gets 13 years for aiding CIA" February 11, 2012

MOSCOW - An engineer at a Russian space facility primarily used for military rocket launches and for ballistic missile research received a sentence of 13 years in prison yesterday for passing on classified military information to the CIA, according to Russia’s domestic intelligence agency, the FSB.

A curt statement posted to the FSB website identified the engineer as Vladimir Nesterets, a lieutenant colonel who worked at the Plesetsk space center, a military installation in northwest Russia close to the port city of Archangelsk.

In a closed-door military trial, Nesterets pleaded guilty to “delivering classified information about tests relating to Russia’s newest strategic military rocket complexes to the CIA in the United States,’’ the statement said.

It added that he received financial compensation for his services.

The FSB, a traditionally secretive organization that is Russia’s successor to the KGB, did not elaborate on the claims against Nesterets, nor did it reveal when the crime took place....

Russian authorities rarely release details about cases involving government secrets.

The last major spy trial to be publicized was that of the former Russian intelligence officer accused of outing an entire Russian spy ring operating in the United States in 2010.

The officer, Alexandr Poteyev, was convicted last summer of treason and sentenced in absentia to 25 years in prison. He is believed to be living in the United States....

"Independent Russian TV investigated" associated Press, February 17, 2012

MOSCOW - Russian prosecutors are investigating how an independent television station covered December’s massive opposition rallies - with an eye on whether the United States or other foreign powers funded the broadcasts, the channel and the lawmaker pursuing the inquiry said yesterday.

Yeah, my government has those types of programs, so what?

The investigation of the Dozhd station follows a management shakeup at Russia’s top independent radio station. The moves signal that the government, which already controls much of Russian media, is increasingly nervous that the two independent media outlets will serve as platforms for opponents of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

In AmeriKa they simply work for them.

The rallies in Moscow drew tens of thousands angry over December’s fraud-tainted parliamentary election, which was won by Putin’s party. Putin accused the United States of instigating the protests, which have challenged his bid for the presidency in March’s election.

They have been known to do that, yeah.

Dozhd’s chief, Nataliya Sindeyeva, posted a copy of the prosecutors’ letter, which says the inquiry is conducted on a request by Robert Shlegel, a lawmaker with Putin’s party. Shlegel asked the prosecutors to unveil “sources of the financing’’ of the rallies’ coverage.

Dozhd, which has been broadcasting online and through cable and satellite networks since 2010, has become a household name for smart journalism because of its extensive coverage of protests and opposition politicians.

We have the same here in AmeriKa; they are called blogs.

Authorities previously had stayed away from intervening in independent media outlets because their coverage and existence helped deflect foreign criticism and provided a safety valve for public discontent.

"Medvedev meets critics, not demands" Associated Press, February 21, 2012

In a separate development, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said in an article published yesterday that Russia needs to modernize its military arsenals to deter others from grabbing its resources. Putin didn’t name specific nations, but he has repeatedly accused the United States of trying to weaken Russia in order to sideline a rival....

As per the PNAC plan.
