Bah, Bah, Bah, Bah, Bah, Bahrain

"Blast targets police bus in Bahrain" by Reem Khalifa |  Associated Press, February 15, 2014

MANAMA, Bahrain — An explosion rocked a bus carrying police in Bahrain on Friday, while security forces used tear gas in clashes with antigovernment protesters on the third anniversary of an uprising in the small Gulf island nation.

Efforts to restart on-and-off reconciliation talks between the Shi’ite-dominated opposition and the Sunni monarchy and its allies have so far failed to bring an end to simmering unrest in the country, an American ally that hosts the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet.

Protests we rarely read about (that's a telling clue), and I suspect the last phrase is a big reason why.

Activists frequently clash with police in the mainly Shi’ite villages just beyond the modern skyscrapers and shopping malls of the capital, Manama. Tensions intensified as the anniversary of the Arab Spring-inspired uprising approached, with government forces tightening security and activists blocking roads to Shi’ite communities with oil slicks and smoldering debris.

Those Ukrania.... oh, right.

Never mind!

"US copter lost in Red Sea; 5 missing" Associated Press, September 23, 2013

MANAMA, Bahrain — A US Navy helicopter crashed in the Red Sea on Sunday, and a search was launched for five crew members aboard.

A statement from the Bahrain-based Fifth Fleet says the MH-60S Knighthawk went down while operating with the destroyer USS William P. Lawrence.

The Navy says an investigation is underway, but there was no hostile activity involved.

Just another U.S-built, war-profiteer-contracted piece of crap, huh?

Officials said the copter was attempting to land or take off from a rear helicopter deck on the destroyer as part of routine operations when the crash occurred.

Not good.

Search teams were deployed from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, which provided aircraft and small boats. The Nimitz deployed to the Red Sea earlier this month in anticipation of a possible US military strike on Syria.

Still there to strike someone else!

Bahrain, a strategic Persian Gulf nation, has been gripped by unrest since an uprising launched in early 2011 by majority Shi’ites seeking a greater political voice.
