Pennsylvania Jury is Off the Mearkle

So much for video evidence:

"Video at trial shows shooting by officer" Associated Press  November 04, 2015

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Video played Tuesday at a police officer’s murder trial shows the 15-year veteran shocking a fleeing suspect with a stun gun, then shooting him twice in the back as he lay face down in the snow and appeared to reach for something with his hands.

Officer Lisa Mearkle was charged with third-degree murder for shooting 59-year-old David Kassick after he fled from a Feb. 2 traffic stop in Hummelstown, a Harrisburg suburb. The shooting was captured by a camera attached to her stun gun.

The video shows Kassick’s hands repeatedly disappearing underneath his body as Mearkle screams at him to keep them where she can see them, a key point of contention between the defense, which says Mearkle fired in self-defense, and the prosecution, which called the shooting unjustified.

Mearkle, 37, administered CPR after shooting Kassick, but he died at the scene. He was unarmed.

In opening statements earlier, prosecutor Johnny Baer said Mearkle ‘‘took David’s life without justification. Took it unnecessarily.’’

Defense attorney Brian Perry said Kassick ignored commands, and Mearkle thought he was reaching for a weapon.

That right there is deserving of death in AmeriKa. Hail victory!

"Cop who fatally shot motorist in back cleared of all charges" AP  November 06, 2015

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A police officer who fatally shot an unarmed motorist in the back as he lay facedown on the ground was acquitted Thursday at her murder trial.

A jury found Lisa Mearkle not guilty of third-degree murder and voluntary and involuntary manslaughter charges in the shooting, captured by a camera attached to her stun gun.

The video, which was played to jurors, showed the Hummelstown police officer shocking 59-year-old David Kassick after he fled from a traffic stop before shooting him twice in the back as he lay face-down in the snow in February.

After the verdict, Mearkle tearfully said she was sorry the shooting had happened.

‘‘I feel relief right now, but it’s going to take a little bit for me to get back to my normal self,’’ she told reporters. ‘‘This has taken a toll on me that nobody understands.’’

Awww, the poor jackboot.

Mearkle said she wanted Kassick’s family to know that: ‘‘I truly wish it didn’t happen. I want them to know that. I didn’t want to shoot anybody.’’

Yup.

In the video, Kassick’s hands repeatedl disappeared underneath his body as Mearkle screamed at him to keep them where she could see them.

"Philadelphia congressman’s son convicted of fraud charges" AP  November 06, 2015

PHILADELPHIA — A veteran Philadelphia congressman’s son was found guilty Thursday of federal bank and tax fraud charges.

When can we eat him?

Chaka Fattah Jr. was convicted of 22 of 23 counts alleging that he misspent loans and some of the nearly $1 million in education funds he got as a school management subcontractor. The jury acquitted him of one count of tax fraud.

Fattah, who represented himself, contended the government built its case on a ‘‘deck of cards.’’ He said authorities targeted him because of his lavish lifestyle and also wanted to hurt his father.

Right, the black Democrat Obama wanted to hurt another black Democrat, sure.

Chaka Fattah Sr. is an 11-term Democratic congressman accused in an unrelated case of misusing grants and charitable donations. The elder Fattah was charged with racketeering conspiracy, money laundering, and other crimes.

Like father, like.... you know.

US prosecutors argued that Fattah’s son was a scam artist who launched sham businesses to secure financing at banks.

And he thought he would get away with it?

Who did he think he was, a member of the CIA?
