The Globe's Ron Paul Paragraphs

That's usually about all he gets (if that).

"Paul, in South Carolina, trumpets antiwar message

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. - GOP candidate Ron Paul has brought his antiwar message to South Carolina, a state with strong military presence.

Paul told a cheering crowd in West Columbia yesterday that the United States should end its current wars and stop meddling in other countries’ affairs. He said active military personnel are sick of wars that drain the nation’s resources and hurt families.

He is RIGHT about THAT!

And the guy just can't get a break from the mouthpiece media:

"Paul takes break from campaign trail

LAKE JACKSON, Texas - The only trail where you might catch Ron Paul this weekend is the biking one here.

While the other Republican presidential candidates were campaigning in South Carolina, the Texas congressman - whose recent momentum is arguably second only to front-runner Mitt Romney’s - is home taking a break, just as his often belittled candidacy has never been taken more seriously.

The implication being what?

Paul’s supporters say they don’t begrudge the 76-year-old for stepping out of the spotlight after he really seized it.

“It’s totally OK,’’ said Cindy Lake, 48, a volunteer passing out voter registration forms ahead of Nevada’s primary next month. “We want him to take a break. He needs to take a break as much as any human being needs to take a break.’’

Yes, because he MUST LOOK RESTED and WELL on the campaign trail, not fatigued.

But Paul’s retreat to Lake Jackson, where the former obstetrician is still likely to be spotted cycling down Oyster Creek Drive, may feed skepticism about whether he is really playing to win the nomination or just getting exposure for libertarian ideas.

F*** YOU, s***hole media!!

Btw, EITHER WAY, WE WIN!!

Paul, who was regarded as a gadfly when ran for president as a Republican in 2008 and as a Libertarian in 1988, finished in the top three in Iowa and New Hampshire this month.

In a free and fair election, yeah!

Must be the MESSAGE and not the PRESENCE of the MAN, huh?

"GOP voter turnout down in N.H., Iowa" January 16, 2012|Brian C. Mooney, Globe Staff

But the good news for the GOP is that, despite lighter Republican participation, independents turned out in unusually strong numbers to vote in the two GOP contests, helping to set a record. Many supported maverick Ron Paul, who is considered a long shot to win the nomination....

But he can't win the general, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Ultra-conservative on fiscal issues, a noninterventionist in foreign policy and defense, and extremely liberal on many social issues, Paul leads an unusual coalition of Tea Partiers, armed service members, veterans, and young voters....

In other words, HE IS THE PEOPLE'S CANDIDATE!!!!

Many of his supporters say they are devoted to his cause and do not consider themselves Republicans.

I don't like false paradigm labels like left-right, conservative-liberal, Democrat-Republican. You are either for freedom or fascism now.

Roughly half his support in both early states came from voters who were not registered Republicans, according to indications from surveys of voters outside voting places. That could mean the GOP may not be able to count on them in November if he is not the nominee.

They won't be able to count on me, and I'm a registered Republican.

"Representative Ron Paul has a loyal and dedicated following that propelled him to a second-place finish in New Hampshire, but he has so far struggled to demonstrate the broad-based support that would be needed to challenge Romney in the long run....

PFFFT!

Whatever, Globe.

Paul drew boos from the audience when he invoked what he called the golden rule in foreign policy.

“If the other country does to us what we do to others, we’re not going to like it very much,’’ Paul said. “We endlessly bomb these countries and wonder why they get upset with us. It continues on and on. . . . It’s war mongering.’’

But the crowd cheered when Paul said, “This country doesn’t need another war. We need to quit the ones we’re in. We need to save money and bring our troops home.’’

And what gets him more than a paragraph?

"For Paul, travel to home state has been largely first class" by Sally Cragin  | Globe Correspondent, January 17, 2012

WASHINGTON - Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul has been spending large amounts on airfare as a congressman, flying first class on dozens of taxpayer-funded flights to his home state. The practice conflicts with the image that Paul portrays as the only presidential candidate serious about cutting federal spending.

Of course, the OTHER CANDIDATES all have CHARTERED PLANES, but that doesn't seem to matter to the Globe when they need to do a hatchet job on Ron Paul.

Btw, I WANT HIM in FIRST CLASS because I WANT HIM WELL-RESTED!

Paul flew first class on at least 31 round-trip flights and 12 one-way flights since May 2009 when he was traveling between Washington and his district in Texas, according to a review by the Associated Press of his congressional office expenses. Four other round-trip tickets and two other one-way tickets purchased during the period were eligible for upgrades to first-class after they were bought, but those upgrades would not be documented in the expense records.

So when we gonna see Mitt Romney in coach, 'eh?

Paul, whose distrust of big government is the centerpiece of his presidential campaign, uses the more expensive government rate for Continental Airlines when buying his tickets. Paul chose not to buy the cheaper economy tickets at a fraction of the price because they aren’t refundable or as flexible for scheduling, his congressional staff said.

“We always get him full refundable tickets since the congressional schedule sometimes changes quickly,’’ said Jeff Deist, Paul’s chief of staff. Paul might have to pay out of his own pocket for canceled flights in some cases if he didn’t buy refundable tickets, Deist said.

But records show that most of the flights for Paul were purchased well in advance and few schedule changes were necessary. Nearly two-thirds of the 49 tickets were purchased at least two weeks in advance, and 42 percent were bought at least three weeks in advance, according to the AP’s review.

So this is what AP is spending its time investigating, huh?

This is ALL they could DIG UP on the good doctor?

Paul charged taxpayers nearly $52,000 on the more expensive tickets, or $27,621 more than the average Continental airfare for the flights between Washington and Houston.

Right, Ron Paul is costing taxpayers money.

Congressional members do not have to pay the government rate for travel, but most do, including many like Paul who advocate cuts in federal spending.

“You could almost always beat the government rate,’’ said Steve Ellis, vice president of the Washington-based Taxpayers for Common Sense, a federal budget watchdog group. “They need to be walking the walk.’’

Jesse Benton, Paul’s campaign manager, did not respond to a written request to explain how Paul’s use of more expensive airfare corresponds with his commitment to cut federal spending. Instead, he sent a statement that stated, “No one is more committed to cutting spending than Dr. Paul.’’
