France Calls For Force in Syria

"France raises prospect of military action in Syria; Frustration builds at UN as cease-fire remains elusive" by Ben Hubbard and Jamey Keaten  |  Associated Press, April 26, 2012

BEIRUT - France raised the prospect of military intervention in Syria Wednesday, saying the UN should consider harsher measures if an international peace plan that has been shaken by violence ultimately collapses.

The statement reflects mounting international frustration with daily attacks that have kept a cease-fire from taking hold between troops loyal to President Bashar Assad and armed rebels seeking to oust him....

France’s Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said his nation had discussed invoking Chapter 7 of the United Nations Charter, which can be enforced militarily, with other world powers. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said last week the UN should move toward such a step to allow for measures like travel and financial sanctions, and an arms embargo. She did not mention military action. The United States has for more than a year opposed the further militarization of the situation.

Any military moves would probably be blocked by Russia and China, which have twice used their vetoes as permanent Security Council members to protect Syria from condemnation and remain opposed to intervention by force. Western powers, too, do not appear interested in sending forces to another Middle East nation in turmoil....

Such a load of garbage because they have already sent covert forces in their to create the exact turmoil they now decry, and they are ready overt forces for deployment.
