"Two New Bedford residents are facing charges of animal cruelty in the deaths of nearly two dozen animals, officials said. New Bedford police responded to an apartment on South Second Street for an investigation led by animal control officers at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Police Chief David Provencher said. Inside the apartment of Jake Brousseau, 24, and Sabrina Harding, 23, were birds, lizards, and other animals that were dead or malnourished, Provencher said. The apartment had a strong odor and was littered with feces, police said. The two were arrested. On Thursday, they were ordered in New Bedford District to undergo a mental examination by a
court clinician."
