"The driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a homeless man riding his bicycle in Deerfield last summer has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide charges. Karen Sanders was released on personal recognizance after her arraignment Tuesday in Greenfield District Court, The Recorder reported. Police said the 68-year-old Turners Falls woman struck the bicycle operated by Chester Tela from behind just after 4 p.m. on July 21 after drifting into the breakdown lane of Routes 5 and 10. Tela died in the hospital the next day. Sanders told investigators that she saw the bicyclist but had been experiencing ‘‘equilibrium issues.’’ (
