NEW DELHI - President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives resigned yesterday after weeks of mounting protests and an apparent police mutiny. Some of Nasheed’s allies claimed that the events amounted to a coup orchestrated by supporters of his predecessor.
The Maldives, a group of islands in the Indian Ocean known mainly for its luxury tourist resorts, has been the scene of nightly protests for the past three weeks....
