"Payroll tax deal a $20-a-week benefit" by Bobby Caina Calvan | Globe Staff, February 18, 2012
WASHINGTON - For all the ideological bluster whipped up over extending the payroll tax holiday, it comes down to this for working Americans: $40, on average, every two weeks.
That’s the amount a worker earning $50,000 annually can continue pocketing in disposable income after Congress yesterday passed an extension of payroll tax cuts for the rest of the year.
The extra wallet money is no small amount to workers seeking to stay afloat.
Oh, so the billions-in-profits-per-quarter oil companies are going to benefit, 'eh?
Lucky he has a job, right?
“In this economy when the middle class has been squeezed, every dollar matters,’’ said Representative James McGovern, a Democrat of Worcester who joined in voting for the agreement. “Maybe some people don’t understand the worth of $40.’’
For the White House, the worth could be immeasurable. Centering their payroll pitch on the country’s middle class, Democrats are hoping to extrapolate that average of $40 into big election-year dividends.

The extra spending money, their argument goes, will help not only struggling families but also boost the economy....
I'm tired of being thought of as a political pawn who will be bought off with chump change.
