Bachmann's Swan Song

Maybe a better opening would have been My Michelle

"Bachmann rips NBC over song" November 24, 2011

ST. PAUL - Michele Bachmann lashed out yesterday at NBC for not apologizing or taking disciplinary action for an off-color song played during her appearance Tuesday on Jimmy Fallon’s “Late Night.’’

The GOP presidential candidate said on the Fox News Channel that Fallon’s band displayed sexism by playing a snippet of a 1985 Fishbone song as she walked onstage. The title of the song is “Lyin’ Ass B--.’’

“This is clearly a form of bias on the part of the Hollywood entertainment elite,’’ Bachmann said.

“This wouldn’t be tolerated if this was Michelle Obama. It shouldn’t be tolerated if it’s a conservative woman, either.’’

On a radio show hosted by conservative Michael Medved she called the incident “outrageous and disrespectful.’’

Fallon tweeted to Bachmann that he was “so sorry about the intro mess.’’ Bachmann told Minnesota Public Radio News that Fallon also called her to apologize. She said he told her he was unaware his band planned to play the song. She suggested that discipline for the band, the Roots, was in order.

"NBC apologizes to Bachmann for Fallon song choice" by Brian Bakst Associated Press / November 23, 2011

ST. PAUL, Minn.—GOP Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann received an apology from an NBC executive after an off-color song was played during her appearance on Jimmy Fallon's "Late Night," her spokeswoman said late Wednesday.

The Minnesota congresswoman received a personal letter from NBC's vice president for late night programming, Doug Vaughan, a day after she appeared on the show. As Bachmann walked onstage, the show's band had played a snippet of a 1985 Fishbone song entitled "Lyin' Ass B----."

Vaughan wrote that the incident was "not only unfortunate but also unacceptable," Bachmann spokeswoman Alice Stewart told The Associated Press. She said Vaughn offered his sincerest apologies and said the band had been "severely reprimanded."

"Bachmann and Paul campaigns accuse debate sponsors of bias" by Shira Schoenberg, Globe Correspondent

Two of the Republican presidential candidates – Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul -- are accusing CBS News and the National Journal, which sponsored Saturday night’s debate, of bias.

The Bachmann campaign released an e-mail that had been inadvertently sent to the Bachmann campaign from a CBS political analyst, who wrote that CBS would prefer to get a guest other than Bachmann for a web show. “She’s not going to get many questions and she’s nearly off the charts,” the analyst noted.

A CBS News spokesman e-mailed the Globe, “It was a candid exchange about the reality of the circumstances -- Bachmann remains at 4 percent in the polls.”

Bachmann’s frustration was evident during one awkward moment in the debate, in which she tried to break in, saying “I have to say something on this, Major,” but National Journal moderator Major Garrett would not let her speak.

"Republican debate heats up on limits of US security; Gingrich takes immigration stance" by Matt Viser and Tracy Jan  |  Globe Staff, November 22, 2011

WASHINGTON - The Republican presidential candidates clashed last night - at times vigorously - over their visions for American security, whether Muslims should be targeted for extra screenings at airports, and how precipitously the US military should pull out from Afghanistan.

Several candidates argued forcefully that the Patriot Act, which made it easier for authorities to track Internet traffic and tap phones in the United States, should not only remain in place, but be strengthened. If preventing future attacks means occasionally infringing on civil liberties, they said, so be it....

US Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota also took Obama to task. He has “essentially handed over investigation of terrorists to the ACLU,’’ she said, without citing any examples. “Our CIA has no ability to investigate.’’

You mean torture.
