Global Warming on a Snowy Wednesday Morning

And it is not even Thanksgiving yet (sigh).

Almost kept me from going to get a Globe.

"Global warming gases rise by record amount, US says; Energy Dept. calls efforts to curb pollution feeble" November 04, 2011|By Seth Borenstein, Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The global output of heat-trapping carbon dioxide jumped by the biggest amount on record, the US Department of Energy calculated, calling the development a sign of how feeble the world’s efforts are at slowing man-made global warming.

The new figures for 2010 mean that levels of greenhouse gases are higher than the worst-case scenario outlined by climate experts just four years ago....

The absolute brazenness of the lies is stunning to me.

"Congress, White House divided on future of icebreakers" November 05, 2011

WASHINGTON - The country’s two heavy-duty icebreaker ships are old and broken, and Congress and the White House are at odds over how to respond, as the melting of polar ice increases the economic and security stakes in the Arctic region....

Arctic ice recovers from the great melt

Hey, don't let that get in the way of the agenda.

Senator Maria Cantwell, Democrat of Washington, is trying to block the decommissioning of either ship....

“Our nation needs icebreakers,’’ she said. “With Russia moving many troops to the Arctic, and Chinese investors buying parts of Greenland, this is also a national security issue.’’

Yeah, let's have a war at the top of the world.

There is little disagreement on the need for a US presence in the Arctic.

Well there is some here. Must the empire have a "presence" on every patch of the planet?

In a report last year, the Congressional Research Service said the shrinking of the icecap will result in increased commercial and military ship activity and greater exploration for oil and other resources.

Then GLOBAL WARMING is actually a GOOD THING, huh?

MORE RESOURCES, LONGER GROWING SEASONS for FOOD, and MORE PLANTS to breathe in all that carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen, 'eh?

That increases the need for icebreakers to help defend US sovereignty and economic interests, monitor sea traffic, assist law enforcement and scientific research, and conduct search and rescue operations.

“We desperately need the Coast Guard and the administration to do what we have asked them to do really now for more than 10 years - define what our mission is in the Arctic,’’ said Representative Frank LoBiondo, a New Jersey Republican and chairman of the Coast Guard subcommittee of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

He said it costs tens of millions of dollars a year to keep the two vessels tied up at the dock, and he hopes the House effort to take them out of service will push the administration into deciding how large a fleet is needed in the future....

Just wonder WhyTF we would be needing icebreakers when we are told the stuff is disappearing and shown distressed polar bears on TV to prove it.

Of course, the anthropological, global-warming fart-mi$ter$ have an explanation for everything:

"Climate change will intensify disastrous weather, UN says; Report highlights how peril extends beyond warming" November 19, 2011|By Juliet Eilperin, Washington Post

WASHINGTON - Climate change will make the drought and flooding events that have battered the United States and other countries in 2011 more frequent in years to come, forcing nations to rethink the way they cope with disasters, according to a new report the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued yesterday.

If someone lied to you before why would you believe them now?

The report, the culmination of a two-year process involving 100 scientists and policy experts, suggests that researchers are far more confident about the prospect of more intense heat waves and heavy downpours than they are about how global warming is affecting hurricanes and tornadoes.

But the new analysis also speaks to a broader trend: The world is facing a new reality of more extreme weather, and policymakers and business alike are beginning to adjust....

Meaning they are refining their money-grubbing pitch in the face of the facts everyone can see and feel in their faces.

"Concentrations of greenhouse gases are soaring, UN reports; Warming target unlikely to be met, MIT estimates" by Seth Borenstein Associated Press / November 22, 2011

Heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are building up so high, so fast, that some scientists now think the world can no longer limit global warming to the level world leaders have agreed upon as safe.

(Blog editor simply snorts at the audacity)

New figures from the U.N. weather agency Monday showed that the three biggest greenhouse gases not only reached record levels last year but were increasing at an ever-faster rate, despite efforts by many countries to reduce emissions.

Maybe that's what kept the bus from showing up today.

As world leaders meet next week in South Africa to tackle the issue of climate change, several scientists said their projections show it is unlikely the world can hold warming to the target set by leaders just two years ago in Copenhagen....

These are the SAME GUYS WHO LIED about EARLIER PROJECTIONS and DATA?

And REMEMBER the CULTISTS FREEZING in COPENHAGEN?

The findings from the U.N. World Meteorological Organization are consistent with other grim reports issued recently....

Yes, ONCE AGAIN it is AGENDA-PUSHING passing as "news!"

The accelerating rise is happening despite the 1997 Kyoto agreement to cut emissions. Europe, Russia and Japan have about reached their targets under the treaty. But China, the U.S. and India are all increasing emissions. The treaty didn't require emission cuts from China and India because they are developing nations. The U.S. pulled out of the treaty in 2001, the Senate having never ratified it.

While scientists can't agree on what level of warming of the climate is considered dangerous, environmental activists have seized upon 350 parts per million as a target for carbon dioxide levels. The world pushed past that mark more than 20 years ago.

That's where my printed Globe ended it.

Pentagon's Role in Global Catastrophe: Add Climate Havoc to War Crimes

In evaluating the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen -- with more than 15,000 participants from 192 countries, including more than 100 heads of state, as well as 100,000 demonstrators in the streets -- it is important to ask: How is it possible that the worst polluter of carbon dioxide and other toxic emissions on the planet is not a focus of any conference discussion or proposed restrictions? By every measure, the Pentagon is the largest institutional user of petroleum products and energy in general. Yet the Pentagon has a blanket exemption in all international climate agreements.

"Major investors press for tough carbon emissions treaty" October 20, 2011|By John Hailprin, Associated Press

GENEVA - Large investors representing more than $20 trillion in assets urged governments yesterday to sign a binding treaty on carbon emissions at the United Nations climate talks in South Africa in December.

A group of 285 investors say only legally enforceable carbon limits can spur the level of investment needed to keep temperatures from rising further. The group includes three major investor networks in the United States, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Stephanie Pfeifer, executive director of the London-based Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change, said that raising enough capital to meet climate change goals “will only be possible when low carbon investments are seen as attractive relative to higher carbon investments.’’

The group includes HSBC Investments, BBC Pension Trust, Hermes, BNP Paribas, Sarasin & Partners, and many other of the largest pension funds and asset managers in Europe, with assets of around $10 trillion.

The investors also include the Investor Network on Climate Risk....

Boston-based Investor Network includes BlackRock, Deutsche Asset Management, and public pension funds in California, Florida, and New York, collectively managing about $10 trillion in assets.

Now they ant to make those literally vanish into thin air (or someone's wallet).

Investors also want a multibillion-dollar “Green Climate Fund’’ and clear short-, medium-, and long-term goals established for cutting carbon dioxide, methane, and other major industrial gases that trap heat in the atmosphere like a greenhouse.

Mindy Lubber, director of the Investor Network and president of Boston-based investment network Ceres, called the statement a plea to the United States and other governments to give businesses the policies they need to compete in a global economy with a low-carbon future.

“Governments that act aggressively to enact strong, long-term climate and energy policy will reap the biggest rewards,’’ she said. “They will drive the innovation, attract investment, and create jobs.’’

As the solar panel mills move to China.

Christiana Figueres, the Costa Rican head of the UN’s post-Kyoto climate negotiations, said many governments are signaling that they want a low-carbon future.

“To get there fast enough will require huge new investments in clean energy,’’ Figueres said.

“This is the only way to guarantee the long-term sustainability and security of the world economic system, and the stability of returns from global investment, a major part of which is directly linked to the pensions and life insurance of ordinary people around the world.’’

In other words, the globalists need a cash source and if Wall Street does well so will you.

"The government support - which includes loan guarantees, cash grants, and contracts that require electric customers to pay higher rates - largely eliminated the risk to the private investors and almost guaranteed them large profits for years. The beneficiaries include financial firms like Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, conglomerates like General Electric, utilities like Exelon and NRG - even Google."

That the same GE that "paid no federal tax bill last year, even though it turned a $14.2 billion profit," and then got a $3.2 billion refund(?).

Your tax dollars hard at work.

The arguments run counter to some of those being made in the United States, where there has been a raging and highly partisan debate over whether countries’ economies would clearly benefit from more climate investment and “green jobs.’’

Among US Republican presidential candidates, Rick Perry, the governor of Texas, has said “the science is not settled’’ and only Jon Huntsman Jr., the former Utah governor, defends the science of climate change....

That does get Perry a few points.
