COPENHAGEN - The United States, China, India, Brazil, and South Africa last night reached what President Obama called a “meaningful and unprecedented breakthrough’’ to control climate change, although the agreement will not be legally binding and falls short of even the most timid expectations of what would come out of the much-anticipated talks here.
The deal, brokered by Obama in the frenetic waning hours of the final day of the two-week climate summit, will.... not be [enough] to.... avoid the worst consequences of global warming.

Game update: My teammates are very much like the American public; always letting me down. I played one of the best games I have in months, readers, and my team still lost 3 of 4 -- and the only reason we won one game is because I went off. I had an up-and-under move from yesteryear and either assisted or canned most of the hoops. In the three other games, my teams blew leads after having numerous chances to win. One game we lost after leading 10 to 6 and needing only one hoop to win. I know it is just a game; however, it is discouraging to put such effort forth only to watch others fumble it away)
