The e-mails were stolen from the computer network server of the climate research unit at the University of East Anglia in southeast England, an influential source of climate science, and were posted online last month. The university shut down the server and contacted the police.

"Maine's wet summer could mean wet firewood
PORTLAND, Maine --Firewood experts are cautioning that last summer's wet weather might result in more smoke and less heat coming out of people's wood stoves this winter. Peter Lammert of the Maine Forest Service told the Portland Press Herald there's a good chance that a lot of firewood that was stacked and stored last spring and summer hasn't fully seasoned because of the soaking rains in June and July.

Firewood that has a high moisture content -- because it hasn't dried properly or is green -- generates less heat because the stove has to first burn off the moisture, which causes the wood to sizzle, smoke and release foamy bubbles. Officials say wet firewood can also clog chimneys with creosote much faster, while putting out more pollution.
