Selecting a Senator: A Kennedy I Could Vote For

"This Kennedy wants to cut government; Senate candidate not related to clan" by Matt Viser, Globe Staff | December 18, 2009

His campaign headquarters are in his home. No one on his campaign staff works full time, and he cannot afford to pay them anyway.

He can hardly believe he’s on the ballot himself.

Meet Joseph Lewis Kennedy, who wants to be your next US senator.

Kennedy, a 38-year-old information technology executive from Dedham, is waging a quixotic independent bid for the seat that became vacant when Edward M. Kennedy (no relation) died in August.

There is that INSULTING WORD again!!!

Wow, that sure is a lot of unrealistic people.

He is an active Libertarian and advocates a diminished role for the federal government....

“Every single time I’ve looked at Democratic or Republican candidates, I just see two sides of the same coin,’’ Kennedy said in an interview. “They’re both willing to take our liberties, they continue their war mongering, and they’re forgetting about the one thing that keeps us great, the economy, jobs, and our freedom.’’

Kennedy is an unenrolled voter, meaning that he is registered to vote, but not as a member of a political party. He is active in libertarianism. He is a member of the Libertarian National Committee and is the recording secretary for the Libertarian Association of Massachusetts.

He said his biggest political heroes are Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, but his contemporary idol is US Representative Ron Paul, a Texas Republican and 2008 presidential candidate. His voting record in recent years is spotty. He appears to have skipped almost all state and local elections, as well as presidential primaries, over the decade. Town clerks contacted by the Globe could find records of his participation in elections only in 2000, 2008, and this year. Kennedy says he voted in the last three presidential elections: for Al Gore in 2000, because he preferred his stance on the environment, for George W. Bush in 2004, because he did not want to oust a president in wartime, and for Bob Barr in 2008, because he is a Libertarian. In the state’s special Senate primary last week, he took a Democratic Party ballot and said he voted for City Year cofounder Alan Khazei, who finished third....

Hey, if HE is ON STAGE for the debates, I will watch!

"Coakley suggests three-way debates; Says all candidates on ballot should participate" by Matt Viser, Globe Staff | December 12, 2009

LYNN - US Senate candidate Martha Coakley is suggesting that she will not agree to debates unless long-shot candidate Joseph L. Kennedy is involved, a strategy that appears to be an effort to make the Senate race a three-party run....

Kennedy, who is not related to the famed political family, is a Libertarian who launched an independent bid for US Senate. He is the only candidate not in a major party who turned in the 10,000 signatures needed to get on the ballot....

Having a three-way debate would help Coakley, the front-runner in the race, and would make it harder for Republican Scott Brown to clearly differentiate himself from Coakley. As a libertarian, Kennedy is also more likely to pull votes from Brown than he is from Coakley, so giving him broad exposure on a televised debate could hurt Brown’s chances.

“It might divide up the anybody-but-Martha vote,’’ said Paul Watanabe, a political science professor at the University of Massachusetts Boston. “Scott Brown would like to have Martha one-on-one, to make it very clear that he’s the alternative to Martha Coakley.’’

Kennedy would probably have the same campaign message as Brown, as an independent voice in Washington....

I'm sorry, Globe, but his message would be FAR from the SAME!

Kennedy, a 38-year-old computer technician from Dedham, is running on a platform of increasing civil liberties and reducing taxes. He wants to withdraw troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, supports same-sex marriage, and is in favor of making changes “that make sense’’ in health care policies.

I'm fine with it all, even the same-sex thing.

You are never going to agree with anyone 100 percent.

And his appeal only grows:

"Coakley balking at 1-on-1 debates; Rebuffs Brown over exclusion of 3d rival" by Matt Viser, Globe Staff | December 15, 2009

Kennedy's last name could pose a problem for Coakley, because some voters might confuse Joseph L. Kennedy with Joseph P. Kennedy II, a former US representative who considered but decided against jumping into the race to succeed his uncle, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, who died in August. But the independent candidacy also poses a challenge to Brown, because Joseph L. Kennedy is a libertarian who could compete with Brown for support from conservative voters.

Kennedy, a vice president of information technology at State Street Corp., said in a phone interview yesterday that he deserves a place at the debates....

Kennedy has also called on Brown and Coakley to forgo their taxpayer-funded salaries for the duration of the campaign. “I think it is wrong to take the public’s money for a job you are not giving your best efforts towards, while essentially job hunting on the taxpayers of Massachusetts’ dime,’’ said Kennedy, who has taken an unpaid leave of absence from his job.

That just endears him one step closer to my heart.

Here is why Brown is out for me:

In his continued effort to distinguish himself from Attorney General Martha Coakley in their US Senate race, Republican nominee Scott Brown yesterday challenged Coakley’s willingness to negotiate with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in a position statement he released on the Middle East.

“Ahmadinejad is a Holocaust denier who has threatened to wipe Israel off the map. Meeting with him confers legitimacy when the only correct response is to treat him as an outcast,’’ wrote Brown, who expressed support for economic sanctions before Congress to pressure Iran to curtail its nuclear ambitions. “A personal meeting with Ahmadinejad as suggested by Martha Coakley would embolden him and be used as a propaganda tool to strengthen his position.’’

Get your FACTS STRAIGHT FIRST, will ya', Brownie?

“When it comes to foreign policy experience, I don’t think she’s focused on reality,’’ Brown said....

In the position paper, Brown, a lieutenant colonel in the Massachusetts National Guard, also supported Israel’s security fence, a network of barriers and fences around the West Bank that has been credited with curbing suicide bombings in Israel but that has been controversial for its placement and nature.

He supports the APARTHEID WALL, huh?

Then he will NEVER GET MY VOTE!!!

“As our closest ally in the Middle East, Israel lives every day under the threat of terror, yet shares with America a dedication to democratic ideals, a respect for faith, and a commitment to peace in the region,’’ Brown wrote. “To the extent possible, the Israeli government should seek to minimize the hardship it places on Palestinians but needs to put its own security first.’’

Well, this guy will be a TOTAL ZIONIST TOOL and we have enough of them down there already!

***********************

Coakley, who as Middlesex district attorney toured Israel on an Anti-Defamation League-sponsored trip, also yesterday called Israel “one of our most important and trusted allies’’ and expressed support for facilitating a two-state solution....

Then WHY are they SPYING on us!?

Coakley, who supports sanctioning Iran for its refusal to stop uranium enrichment but favors direct diplomacy with the nation, issued a statement defending her position....

So Martha is the more moderate of the two, 'eh?
