"With holidays near, violence on rise in Iraq; Christian, Shi’ite events both targeted" by John Leland, New York Times | December 24, 2009

BAGHDAD - As Muslims in Iraq observe the 10-day holiday of Muharram, and Christians warily prepare for a subdued Christmas, episodes of violence erupted around the country yesterday, some of it aimed at worshipers of both faiths.

I keep telling you we are not leaving, America. And CUI BONO?

At least eight people were killed and about four dozen wounded. Insurgents have routinely targeted Shi’ites and Christians in an attempt to undermine the country’s security gains and its Shi’ite-dominated government. Security forces in recent days have been concerned that the Shi’ite holy observances known as Ashura and Christmas gatherings would be targeted by large-scale attacks.

In east Baghdad a group of Shi’ite pilgrims were marching toward Karbala in observance of Muharram when a bomb hidden in a bag exploded, killing four people and injuring 31 others.

A second blast struck Shi’ite worshipers gathering in central Baghdad. The bomb, hidden behind a tent erected to provide food and water to pilgrims, killed one pilgrim and wounded four others, said a police official. A third blast in western Baghdad killed one pilgrim and wounded eight others, police said.

I'm sorry, but I NO LONGER BELIEVE MUSLIMS do this and I sure as heck am not believing a Muslim-hating, war-promoting account anymore!

The pilgrimage to Karbala, culminating Sunday in the Day of Ashura, is one of the holiest Shi’ite observances, commemorating the martyrdom of the Imam Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of Muhammad, in 680 AD. Saddam Hussein banned the pilgrimage, and it has been a target of attacks since his fall in 2003. “They will not make us stop by making explosions here or there,’’ said Ahmed al-Saedi, 26, one of the marchers, who was not near the bombings....

In the northern city of Mosul, where sectarian violence has continued to run high, a bomb, hidden under sacks of baking flour in a handcart across from the Syrian Orthodox Church of St. Thomas, killed two people, both Muslim. “Instead of performing Christmas Mass in this church, we will be busy removing rubble and debris,’’ said Hazim Ragheed, a priest at the church.

Well, what do you expect with Mossad running around up there?

The attack followed threats to blow up churches at Christmas, and is the sixth attack on Christians in Mosul in less than a month. Threats and attacks against Iraqi Christians typically rise during the Christmas season.

And WHO BENEFITS when CHRISTIANS and MUSLIMS fight for NO REASON?

(Rhymes with) YOU-KNOW-WHO, readers!!!

After a relatively peaceful November, in which only 88 Iraqi civilians were killed in attacks, violence has increased this month, punctuated by car bomb attacks on Dec. 8 that killed at least 121 people....

Yeah, those INSIDE JOBS!!!

And ISN'T the ZIONIST TERMINOLOGY DISGUSTING?

Yeah, hell on Earth is "relatively peaceful."

"ONLY" 88 Iraqis (at least) died because of their lies -- last month!!!

Imagine if they were Jews; would there be an "only?

Iraqi police officers remain a favorite target of the attackers. In Abu Ghraib yesterday morning, gunmen opened fire on a police checkpoint, killing four officers before escaping.

Blackwater or CIA?

The attack followed a similar shooting Dec. 6, in which gunmen killed a police officer outside a guard room, then stormed the room and killed three more policemen.

I don't think the Globe reported that, readers.

The district commissioner of Abu Ghraib, Shaker Feza, blamed the attacks on negligence among the security forces.

Translation: INSIDE JOB!

“They say that this place is a terrorist area, and all the people who live here don’t deserve anything but to be killed,’’ Feza said.

Yeah, LET GOD SORT 'EM OUT, right?

Later in the day, in Fallujah, attackers placed a bomb on the armored car of a Sunni candidate for Parliament, Efan al-Essawi. Sheik Essawi, a Sunni Muslim running on the Iraqi Unity Alliance electoral list, was injured but escaped serious harm.

Hmmmmmm!
