May Day: Medeiros's Medals

"92-year-old R.I. veteran gets long-overdue medals

A 92-year-old veteran from Bristol who served in the US Army during World War II has received long-overdue medals for his service. On Tuesday, US Representative David Cicilline presented Arthur Medeiros with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals he earned but never received. Medeiros was a 22-year-old resident of Pawtucket when he enlisted in the Army in 1942. He was injured during the Battle of the Bulge, treated in a military hospital, and later returned to his unit. He received an honorable discharge in 1945. Medeiros said that, after 70 years, he thought this day might never come but he is happy it has."
