HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A Maryland man died from a transplanted, rabies-infected kidney that came from a donor who was not known to have the disease, a rare death that prompted authorities to treat three other transplant patients, US health officials said Friday.
The man who died had received the kidney more than a year ago. The recipients of the donor’s other kidney, heart, and liver are getting anti-rabies shots, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. Those patients live in Florida, Georgia, and Illinois.
The donor died in Florida in 2011 after moving there from North Carolina.
The Defense Department confirmed that the donor was a 20-year-old man who had been in the Air Force for about 17 weeks before he died. He was training to become an aviation mechanic in Pensacola, Fla., when he became sick.
The Maryland patient’s death more than a week ago prompted an investigation by state health officials that led to the announcement Tuesday of the state’s first human death from rabies since 1976. Such deaths are rare, with typically just one to three cases diagnosed per year in the United States, the CDC said....

BALTIMORE — A man with Down syndrome who died of asphyxia after he was restrained at a movie theater had anger issues and health problems that made him susceptible to sudden death, according to an autopsy report made public Tuesday.
Translation: we need to cover up cop murder.
The report by the Maryland medical examiner’s office provides new public details about the death of Robert Ethan Saylor, 26, of New Market. He died Jan. 12 after three Frederick County sheriff’s deputies, moonlighting as mall security guards, tried to remove him from a Frederick movie theater at the management’s request.
The autopsy said the death was ruled a homicide. A Frederick County grand jury declined last week to indict the three deputies involved.
The Associated Press reviewed the autopsy report at the medical examiner’s office in Baltimore. The report said Saylor had a reported medical history of anger issues, especially when confronted or touched.
But, but, but, these were the guys he loved!
Police have said Saylor, who stood 5-foot-6 and weighed 294 pounds, yelled and cursed at the deputies after they confronted him for refusing to leave an auditorium where he had watched the movie ‘‘Zero Dark Thirty.’’ The autopsy report says one deputy then touched Saylor to remove him from the theater. When he resisted, the others joined in.
And then choked him to death while he was handcuffed. Why was that omitted? Why was the fact that the kid worshipped them omitted?

FREDERICK, Md. — Fascinated with law enforcement, Robert Ethan Saylor would sometimes call 911 just to ask the dispatchers a question. He loved talking to police officers and was a loyal follower of the TV show ‘‘NCIS.’’
But he got mad at 'em!
Now, his death at age 26 is the subject of a criminal investigation that has left those who knew him in his Frederick County community and those who didn’t around the country wondering: How did a young man with Down syndrome die in an encounter with the very people he idolized?
How indeed.
As officials tell it, Saylor had been watching ‘‘Zero Dark Thirty’’ at a Frederick, Md., movie theater last month and, as soon as it ended, wanted to watch it again.
I felt that way about the midnight premiere of "Revenge of the Sith." I went home walking on air and wide awake at 2:30 a.m.
When he refused to leave, a theater employee called three off-duty Frederick County sheriff’s deputies who were working a second security job at the Westview Promenade shopping center and told them that Saylor needed to buy another ticket or be removed.
What happened next is the subject of an investigation by the Frederick County Bureau of Investigation. The findings are expected to go to the Frederick County State Attorney’s Office for review soon....

FREDERICK, Md. — A Frederick County grand jury on Friday declined to indict three sheriff’s deputies involved in the asphyxiation death of a man with Down syndrome, prompting the man’s family to question the thoroughness of the investigation by the officers’ co-workers.
Robert Ethan Saylor’s parents, Patti and Ronald Saylor, want to review the investigative file compiled by the sheriff’s office and the state medical examiner’s autopsy report before deciding whether to pursue civil action, Baltimore lawyer Sharon Krevor-Weisbaum said. Neither file was available for public inspection. ‘‘The family is extremely disappointed and saddened by the grand jury’s decision,’’ Krevor-Weisbaum said. ‘‘The inquiry into events on that terrible night is not going to stop here.’’
Saylor, 20, died Jan. 12 after the deputies, moonlighting as Westview Promenade mall security officers, tried to remove him from a Regal Cinemas Westview Stadium 16 auditorium at the management’s request.
His caretaker had gone outside to get the car after a screening of ‘‘Zero Dark Thirty,’’ and Saylor had returned to a theater seat, his family’s lawyers said.
Oh, so if the cops had only waited a few more minutes the caretaker would have come in and cleared up the situation.
Saylor ended up handcuffed on the floor after he became ‘‘verbally and physically resistant’’ to the deputies.
He did that to the guys he idolized and loved?
