Slow Saturday Special: Vermont School is Racist

Isn't it the whitest state in the union?

"Vt. school board considers ending MLK holiday

The St. Johnsbury School Board is considering making students in the Vermont town attend school on the Martin Luther King Day holiday in January. School director Tony Greenwood said the school does not get days off for presidents such as Abraham Lincoln. Greenwood said he has ‘‘no beef with Martin Luther King.’’ The district needs to ensure that snow days can be made up, and the school does not need another day off, he said. School director Richard Boisseau said he supports school attendance on King Day, saying the day should be used to raise children’s awareness of King and his efforts to bring about racial equality."

Oddly, it was his stand against economic inequality and war that got him killed.

"Couple in Vt. teacher case ask for new lawyers

A Vermont couple charged in the killing last year of a popular St. Johnsbury teacher now want new lawyers. Allen and Patricia Prue have been charged in the death of Melissa Jenkins, 33, in March 2012. They are accused of luring Jenkins from her Danville home, beating and strangling her, and dumping her body in the Connecticut River. They have pleaded not guilty. The Prues will be tried separately and have different lawyers. The Caledonian-Record reported that Patricia Prue has asked the state for a new court-appointed attorney to replace Marc Eagle of Lamoille. Allen Prue has also asked for a new lawyer, to succeed his current one, Dan Maguire of Essex Junction."
