State Grabs Back Gibbons

"Inmate back in custody after escape

An inmate who escaped from a prison in Norfolk over the weekend is back in custody, according to Cara Savelli, a spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Department of Correction. Stephen Gibbons was “declared missing from the property” of the Pondville Correctional Center shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday, the spokeswoman said. The facility holds up to 160 inmates at a minimum-security level and up to 44 at a prerelease security level. Just before 6 p.m. Sunday, Savelli said by phone that Gibbons was back in the custody of the Correction Department, but declined to say when he had been captured. When asked if charges might be filed against Gibbons for leaving, Savelli said she expects prosecutors will “look into” that. She declined say how Gibbons escaped or how he was captured. A post on the Facebook page of the Norfolk Police Department described Gibbons as being 34 years old. According to the Springfield Republican, Gibbons was charged with robbing a pharmacy in Ware at gunpoint in September 2011."
