Sunday Globe Special: Champlain Valley Cocaine Connection

"Mass. man sentenced on cocaine charges

A Massachusetts man has been sentenced in Vermont to nearly nine years in prison after being convicted of conspiring to distribute cocaine. Forty-year-old Luis Torres of New Bedford was indicted by a federal grand jury in August 2012 for conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine between April 2011 and April 2012. He pleaded guilty to the charges last year. Court records say drug enforcement agents and police bought cocaine from Matthew Burt at Champlain Valley Auto in Burlington in 2012 and learned that a courier was bringing the drugs from Massachusetts. Prosecutors say police intercepted a rental car as it arrived at Champlain Valley Auto from Massachusetts with about a kilogram of cocaine. Police say they determined Torres was the supplier."

Is that a lot?
