The principal and a teacher at Everett High School received two-day suspensions without pay for producing a video spoof of “The Terminator” that was shown during the school’s morning announcements.
Principal Erick Naumann and technology teacher Roy Barrows were handed the suspensions Tuesday morning, Superintendent Frederick Foresteire said....
The video showed Naumann, in his first year as the school’s principal, walking through the empty halls of Everett High wearing sunglasses and a leather jacket.
When asked by Barrows where the students have gone, he says that they have been “Naumannated.”
It was shown to students on Jan. 7. Naumann and Barrows both continued to serve in their regular capacities until the video went viral on YouTube and caught news media attention last Friday, Foresteire said....
Many who spoke said the video, which was shown to students just over three weeks after the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., was merely an attempt by the new principal to connect with students.
“I believe although his video may have been misinterpreted, he had nothing but good intentions,” said Christian Dominguez, a junior.
The video appears to be a parody trailer of the movie “The Terminator” and its sequels, which star Arnold Schwarzenegger as a cyborg sent from the future that is programmed to kill.
Following the meeting Monday, Foresteire said that Naumann made a poor decision in creating and showing the video, but that he was the right choice to lead the school.
Naumann was raised in Everett, attended the high school, and has worked in the city’s school system for 15 years, first as a science teacher, then an administrator....
