Mathias Dealership Moved Marijuana

"Auto dealer arrested on drug charge in Freetown" by Jasper Craven |  Globe Correspondent, November 05, 2013

Freetown police seized 31 pounds of marijuana at a car dealership, and officials allege the owner was intending to distribute the drugs.

Officers were called to GM Auto & Truck Sales after an alarm inside the dealership was sounded at about 12:44 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement released by police.

When officers arrived at the business, located at 128 Braley Road, they saw an open door, entered it, and swept the store for intruders.

There, officers noticed several large plastic bags on a shelf and bookcase, all of which contained marijuana, police said.

Police then secured the building while a detective obtained a search warrant.

Officers seized the marijuana and a camera system and questioned the owner of the dealership, Gary Mathias.

“We reviewed the video, and there are two intruders visible on the video,” said Police Chief Carlton Abbott. “They were viewed running from the scene and, from what we can tell, they carried no items with them.”

Mathias, 57, of Dartmouth, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
