"Rhode Island woman, 80, accused of baseball bat attack
Police say an 80-year-old Portsmouth woman struck a 77-year-old man several times with a baseball bat, causing a serious head wound. Filomena Tougas remained in police custody Sunday morning after being arrested when police were called to her home Saturday in response to a domestic disturbance. Police did not identify the man, who was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Tougas was taken to the Portsmouth police station, where she passed out. She was taken to Newport Hospital, according to police. She was charged with domestic felony assault and arraigned before a justice of the peace, who ordered her held without bail. Tougas was in the custody of the Rhode Island Sheriff’s Department Sunday. It was not known Sunday morning if she was represented by a lawyer."
