"North Korea may quit planned new talks

SEOUL — North Korea’s state-run news agency said Saturday that the country’s plans to resume high-level government talks with South Korea were in danger of being canceled after troops from both sides exchanged gunfire across the border. North Korea opened fire after activists in the South sent balloons sailing across the border with leaflets criticizing the North’s government. The news agency called the leaflets “an intolerable political provocation.” (New York Times)."

ANCHORAGE — Juneau police have apologized for mistakenly telling a couple that their son had died in a car crash. Karen and Jay Priest learned of the error when they went to tell his girlfriend, and 29-year-old Justin answered the door (AP)."
