Bailout Bill Benefited Bicycles

While it may be a great idea, WTF?

We were told the thing was needed to save the housing market and broader economy. The Congress wants to do a $150 billion Second Stimulus after adding $150 billion in "sweeteners" (read: bribes) to get the bill passed?

Now we find out the damn thing was a blank check for the Bush administration to hand out taxpayer money to their friends (the same ones that control the Congress).

"Circulating a tax benefit

Bicycle commuters were also the focus of a rather peculiar add-on to Congress's recent $700 billion bailout bill. The bill provides a $20-per-month tax benefit for bicycle commuters, through their employers.

I did that for ten years in the 1990s when I was steeped in global warming mythology. Rain, snow, cold, didn't matter; I biked the five+ miles every day, every day. I'm TOO OLD to do that now, even if I still believed.

It could mean a free bike, courtesy of the government bailout.

Ummm, is that what the BILL was MEANT FOR?
