Governor on the Go

Is this why you reelected him?

"Patrick plans to expand travels; Would promote trade, publicize his memoir; May raise questions on his aspirations" by Noah Bierman, Globe Staff / January 5, 2011

Governor Deval Patrick has a new goal as he starts his second term tomorrow: get out of the state more often.

Then why did you run for reelection?

Full of confidence, and a bit of bluster, since his reelection in November, the governor said yesterday that he is planning more travel, both domestically and overseas, to promote the state on trade missions, to research other states’ policies, to publicize his upcoming memoir, and possibly to campaign for President Obama....

Is that WHY YOU REELECTED HIM, Massachusetts?

Patrick’s trips may renew speculation about whether he harbors aspirations for higher office or a political appointment out of state, and it may draw criticism that he is junketeering, especially if he combines book promotion with state business....

That's what he will be peddling: junk.

Here's who is helping him:

"The group of 14 chief executives advising Patrick, dubbed the Massachusetts Competitive Partnership, has preliminarily suggested he focus on four countries — China, India, Israel, and Brazil — to build on existing business ties, according to Dan O’Connell, who served as Patrick’s economic development secretary and now leads the partnership....

I'll give you one guess where he is going first:

"Israeli consul general Shai Bazak touted the links between Israel and Massachusetts in education and biotechnology, but warned that “other states are increasingly challenging Massachusetts’ position.’’

Oh, I'm heartbroken my state will no longer be a test laboratory and cash cow for Zionists.

A real man of the people, huh?

"Patrick talks trade with Israel, El Al; No deals at the outset of five-day mission" by Noah Bierman,  Globe Staff / March 8, 2011

TEL AVIV — On the first day of his five-day trade mission to Israel, the governor led an entourage of Massachusetts business executives through back-to-back meetings with Israeli officials, rarely taking a break. Much of his time was spent in small boardrooms, discussing business opportunities and similarities between Massachusetts’ and Israel’s economies.

There was pageantry, too, as Patrick and the delegation engaged in repeated sessions of gift exchanging and slide-show watching amid large platters of food....

I notice the elite are never wanting for food regardless of the cost.

Patrick’s trade mission has a fairly broad agenda, to promote investment between Israel and Massachusetts in clean energy, information technology, and biotechnology....

So the Zionist state can steal more of your tax loot, Bay-Stater!

ISRAEL JOURNAL Kraft brings star status to Parliament

"Patrick eagerly accepts role as state’s envoy abroad; But he insists he just wants to come home and run Massachusetts" by Noah Bierman, Globe Staff / March 13, 2011

JERUSALEM — Patrick has been treated to a declaration from the floor of the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, and a dinner at the US ambassador’s mansion, an impressive estate with a lush garden overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. He has presented a bronze statue of JFK to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and laid a wreath at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial visited by nearly every American dignitary....

I view the presentation of the JFK bust as an insulting sacrilege, readers, and I'm tired of the Holocaust™ guilt trip.  Looks like Patrick the panderer got the full trip though.

Patrick said Obama did not send any messages through him. Nor did Israelis send Obama messages through Patrick.... Obama’s name rarely comes up in large gatherings, and opinion polls show many Israelis hold a negative opinion of the American president.

The STOP CASHING the AID CHECKS!!!

Bush was better to Israel,’’ said Yoav Raif, a 24 year-old economics student at the Interdisciplinary center, a university in Herzliya. Obama “doesn’t represent our interests. He’s not a friend.’’

What UNGRATEFUL ASSHOLES are the ISRAELIS!

Here he is APOLOGIZING and EXCUSING that wretched war-criminal state at the U.N. after they murdered an American in international waters in an act of piracy and they cop that attitude?

For all the honorary welcomes Patrick received last week, he remains largely unknown in Israel, where his visit has received scant attention in the national media. He was barely noticed when he and the trade delegation walked through the crowded Yad Vashem museum. New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has garnered more attention here, from government officials who know him personally and even from a Patriots fan who recognized Kraft walking with Patrick through the Knesset....

Which is interesting because I saw a clip of Kraft regarding the NFL labor strife and lockout and he was saying how important it was to keep talking, blah, blah, blah. mI thought HOW INTERESTING that he is SAYING that from ISRAEL -- the nation that refuses to talk peace with Palestinians without placing unacceptable preconditions on the talks!!!

"Big Dig legacy dogs state, even in Israel

On his trade mission in Israel last week, Governor Deval Patrick tried to market Massachusetts as a center of innovation, technology, and science.

But the state just cannot shake its legacy as the home of the Big Dig.

The project — with its staggering cost overruns, long delays, and a fatal tunnel collapse — casts a shadow that reached all the way to the David Citadel Hotel in Jerusalem, where Patrick met with graduates of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government on Friday.

One of those graduates, Shlomit Doten-Gissin, told the governor she was working on an 11-mile light rail project in Tel Aviv that will involve building 5 miles of track underground.

“I don’t want it to be like the Big Dig,’’ she said.

Patrick acknowledged the project’s problems. But he wasn’t about to take the blame.

“I did not manage the Big Dig,’’ he told Doten-Gissin. “I just want that to be on the record.’’]

Tweet(s) of the week

As Governor Deval Patrick traveled through Israel last week on a trade mission that included Boston-area business and science leaders, we were impressed by the torrent of tweets from his travel companions. They provided minute-by-minute updates and allowed those of us at home to follow along on the international adventure. Here are two that we felt best summarized the week:

Yes, it is a GREAT ADVENTURE (puke)!!!
