WASHINGTON - They come in ice cream flavors such as strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate. They are packaged in colorful wrappers. “Little cigars’’ are finding a niche among teens, who like the price - about a dollar - and the taste.

Young smokers say these cigarette-size cigars look better and can be bought one at a time instead of spending more than $5 for a pack of cigarettes. Many teens also think they are less addictive.

That’s a problem....

In some states, cigar smoking among some youth groups is more popular than cigarette smoking....

LANSING, Mich. - More teens are turning to marijuana and see it as less of a risk at the same time alcohol use among the same age group has dipped to historic lows, according to an annual national survey of drug use released yesterday....

“One thing we’ve learned over the years is that when young people come to see a drug as dangerous, they’re less likely to use it,’’ Lloyd Johnston, the study’s principal investigator, said in a telephone interview. “That helps to explain why marijuana right now is rising, because the proportion of kids who see it as dangerous has been declining.’’

Or the kids just figured out parents, officials, and authorities were lying to them.
