Globe Answers Alabama Man Mystery

He's been poisoned, folks!

The government literally poisoned him, folks.

"His property has a white trailer that, according to Creel, Dykes said he bought from FEMA after it was used to house evacuees from Hurricane Katrina."

FEMA Seeks Immunity for Willful Negligence and Poisoning of Americans

Yup, that's the government that loves you so much as it protects you from terrorists and gun violence and all the other wonderful things government does.

Yes, they do provide some services; however, only because they have to keep the system running. If they stole everything and gave back nothing we would all be out in the street in five seconds.

Or holed-up in a bunker, right?

"Details emerge on suspect holding 5-year-old in bunker" by Bruce Smith |  Associated Press, February 04, 2013

MIDLAND CITY, Ala. — As an Alabama standoff and hostage drama marked a sixth day Sunday, more details emerged about the suspect at the center, with neighbors and officials painting a picture of an isolated man estranged from his family....

I'm only going with the new stuff, folks. You can check my link below for the rest.

A neighbor, Michael Creel, said Jim Lee Dykes, 65 — a veteran of the Vietnam War known as Jimmy to neighbors —  kept to himself and listened to a lot of conservative talk radio.

Uh-oh.

‘‘He was very into what’s going on with the nation and the politics and all the laws being made,’’ he said....

His property has a white trailer that, according to Creel, Dykes said he bought from FEMA after it was used to house evacuees from Hurricane Katrina. The property also has a steel shipping container — like those on container ships — in which Dykes stores tools.

Next to the container is the underground bunker where officials say Dykes is holed up with the 5-year-old. Neighbors say the bunker has a pipe so Dykes could hear people coming near his driveway. Officials have been using the ventilation pipe to communicate with him.

The younger Creel, who said he helped Dykes with supplies to build the bunker and has been in it twice, said Dykes wanted protection from hurricanes.

UPDATE: Alabama hostage-taker dead, boy safe

The Feds stormed the bunker after deciding the boy was in imminent danger? Then Clint Van Zandt is a damn deception artist.

NEXT DAY UPDATE:

I don't know why my printed piece needed a rewrite and edit, but....

"Authorities storm Ala. bunker, rescue boy, 5; Six-day standoff ends with death of kidnapper" by Tamara Lush and Kate Brumback  |  Associated Press, February 05, 2013

MIDLAND CITY, Ala. — Authorities stormed an underground bunker Monday in southeastern Alabama, freeing a 5-year-old boy and leaving his captor dead after a week of fruitless negotiations that left authorities convinced the child was in imminent danger.

We heard the same thing at Waco.

Jimmy Lee Dykes, 65, had taken the child off a school bus after fatally shooting the driver, authorities said. Dykes had been seen with a gun, and officers concluded the boy was in danger, said Steve Richardson of the FBI’s office in Mobile.

It was not immediately clear how authorities determined the man had a gun or exactly how Dykes died....

Starting to really stink because the web added this:

"Neighbors described hearing what sounded like gunshots around the time officials said they entered the shelter."

They KILLED HIM!

The rescue capped a long drama that drew national attention to this town of 2,400 people nestled amid peanut farms and cotton fields...

That is WHY the FEDS MOVED! This was beginning to GET EMBARRASSING!

The shelter had no toilet....

That could be a problem.

Melissa Knighton, city clerk in Midland City, said a woman had been praying in the town center Monday afternoon. Not long after, the mayor called with news that Dykes was dead and that the boy was safe.

‘‘She must have had a direct line to God because shortly after she left, they heard the news,’’ Knighton said....

I like to leave God out of the killing business.

Ronda Wilbur, a neighbor of Dykes who said the man beat her dog to death last year with a pipe, said she was relieved to be done with the stress of knowing Dykes was patrolling his yard and willing to shoot at anyone or anything that trespassed.

‘‘The nightmare is over,’’ she said. ‘‘It’s been a long couple of years of having constant stress.’’

What the web version cut

FBI bomb technicians later scoured the property for any explosive devices, FBI spokesman Jason Pack said. He added they would be conducting an even more exhaustive search of the site once it was deemed safe.

???

Daryle Hendry, who lives about a quarter-mile (half a kilometer) from where Dykes' bunker was located, said he heard a boom Monday afternoon, followed by what sounded like a gunshot.

The Midland city standoff lasted more than 140 hours, making it among the longest in recent memory involving a single hostage taker.

And that is why they went in! The guy had a gun, kid was in danger cover is a load of crap! Think about it: that kid was his insurance policy. The last thing Dykes would have wanted to do was harm him! The whole cover story is out there to justify the bad p.r. that was coming from having the AmeriKan media down there.

Midland City Mayor Virgil Skipper
described Midland City as a place where people work, pray and spend time with their families.

Across the street from Dykes' property, fliers imploring people to pray for the little boy were stuck onto the chain-link fence outside of the Midland City Elementary School, where he is enrolled. The fence also has been adorned with black, white, and red ribbons.

What the web version added:

He was known by neighbors for his antigovernment rants and for patrolling his property with a gun, ready to shoot trespassers. He had stayed for several days in the tiny bunker before.

‘‘He always said he’d never be taken alive. I knew he’d never come out of there,’’ said an acquaintance, Roger Arnold....

Dykes believed the government had control of many things, including a dog track he frequented in the Florida Panhandle. Arnold said that Dykes believed if a dog was far ahead and wasn’t supposed to win, the government would shock it....

Oh, now Dykes was a complete whacko, huh? The government is controlling the dog races!

This the best cover story you guys can come up with? Well has run dry, huh?

Monday evening, officers were sweeping the property to make sure Dykes had not set up any bombs that could detonate. Full details of the bunker raid had not yet emerged. However, at a late Monday news conference, authorities declined to elaborate on how they had observed Dykes or on how he died, citing the pending investigation.

Absolutely stinks of a cover up.

Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson said Dykes was armed when officers entered the bunker to rescue the child. He said the boy was threatened but declined to elaborate....

Weren't they putting him in more danger by entering when Dykes was allegedly armed? What this is looking like -- and the censorship is certainly making me suspicious -- is that they surprised the guy and shot him!

Michael Senn, pastor of a church near where reporters had been camped out since the standoff began, said Midland City has long relied on a strong Christian faith, a policy of ‘‘love thy neighbor,’’ and the power of group prayer.

Love thy neighbor, all except Dykes.

The child’s plight prompted nightly candlelight vigils.

I'm not saying Dykes was an angel, but the government couldn't have handled this better?  I suppose Dykes deserved to die, huh?
