This Draft About Iraq Was Hanging Around

So I decided to post it:

"The increase in government-sanctioned executions in Iraq has raised concerns among international human rights observers about whether the defendants are receiving fair trials. Iraq has shrugged off calls to abolish the death penalty."

I'm not for it, but think of the larger agenda-pushing at work here: Iraq is nominally an ally of Shi'ite Iran and forms and vital link with it's satellite Syria. JWho would want to pressure that?  Consider my source.

"Iraq hangs 17, mostly for ‘terrorism’" Associated Press, August 20, 2013

BAGHDAD — Iraq executed 17 prisoners on Monday, all but one convicted of ‘‘terrorism,’’ shrugging off calls from international human rights organizations to reconsider the use of capital punishment....

After the 2003 US-led invasion that toppled longtime dictator Saddam Hussein, occupation authorities suspended Iraq’s death penalty. It was reinstated in 2004 by the country’s transitional government. Since then, Iraqi governments have increasingly used the punishment.

According to London-based Amnesty International, Iraq was ranked fourth among the top five executioners in the world in 2011, after China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia, and US human rights groups have questioned whether defendants received a fair trial.

Saudi doesn't get much guff, but then the recent reports regarding women show some strain and pressure in the alliance of UISraebia.

"Iraq hangs 42 convicted of terrorism" by Sinan Salaheddin |  Associated Press, October 11, 2013

BAGHDAD — Iraq has hanged 42 prisoners convicted of terrorism-related charges, including a woman, the Justice Ministry said Thursday, in Baghdad’s latest use of capital punishment despite international appeals to have it abolished.

With violence mounting since April, the government defends the death penalty as a way to face down insurgents bent on destabilizing the country. More than 5,000 people have been killed over the past six months, including nearly 200 so far in October.

Human rights groups have questioned trial procedures in Iraqi courts, alleging that some verdicts are based on testimony obtained by torture or forced statements....

And yet when 9/11 patsies and other pathetic plotters confess under such circumstances it's confirmation and a confession!

In 2011, Iraq was ranked among the world’s top five executioners, alsong with China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United States, according to the London-based group Amnesty International. It has executed 132 people so far this year....

JWho can criticize Iraq for executing Saudi-sponsored Al-CIA-Duh terrorists? Not me; my nation has the death penalty in several states (which is their business, not mine).
