Syrian Terrorists Returning Home

At least we know which intelligence agencies they were working for (the usual suspects, of course), and the NSA, FBI, GCHQ, and the rest have a heads-up and head start on monitoring these fellows.

"France unveils plan to stop youths from fighting in Syria" by Elaine Ganley | Associated Press   April 24, 2014

PARIS — France wants to deter youths from joining the ranks of Islamist militants in Syria’s civil war, and is planning a series of tough-love measures that answer the pleas of parents and seek to protect the nation from battle-hardened returnees.

The measures announced Wednesday include a system for allowing suspicious parents, and perhaps teachers, to tip off authorities. Those suspected of wanting to become a foreign fighter will have their passport withdrawn and their name put in a European security data base.

France believes it has more of its young people joining the Syria fighting than any other European nation. But the problem — and the potential risk that those returning home could import terrorist skills and use them against the homeland — is continental in scope.

The government said Wednesday that nearly 300 French people are currently in Syria, 130 are in transit, and 130 others have returned home after one or more tours in Syria, where a three-year-old civil war has left 150,000 dead and forced millions to flee their homes.

Another 25 French citizens or residents have died on the battlefield. In total, 740 people have been identified as belonging to Syrian networks.

Youths as young as 15, including girls, have left home to fight. Some have been retrieved by their parents and brought home to be criminally charged and jailed.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the plans include preventive measures and ‘‘repressive elements aimed at dismantling networks that expose our country to risks.’’

Speaking after a Cabinet meeting that approved the plans, Cazeneuve said France had ‘‘the will to use all means to identify recruiters and suppliers of hatred on the Internet, and dismantle the networks.’’

France plans to create an alert system for parents who fear their children are at risk of taking up jihad. Parents would contact the Interior Ministry, which would mobilize social services and the educational system.

Cazeneuve did not elaborate. It wasn’t clear whether teachers and parents would, ultimately, be spying on their students and children.

Parents have been pleading with the government to take action to keep their children from becoming terrorists. Some have asked the government to offer clemency to teenagers lured to Syria by Internet propaganda. However, Cazeneuve said those caught on their return must face the courts.

A criminologist, Alain Bauer, scoffed at the notion that France’s 5 million Muslims — the largest Muslim population in Western Europe — might feel stigmatized by the measures, as they did when France passed laws banning head scarves in schools and face-covering veils in public places.

‘‘When you are protecting a country, you take care of reality,’’ Bauer said.

Bauer compared the new proposals to providing medical care for a drug-addicted child. ‘‘Prevention is like a medical act. . . . It’s taking care of someone who’s in trouble,’’ he said.

While Bauer praised the prevention elements of the plan, he expressed reservations about the rest, particularly the widely-shared belief that returning fighters could pose a terror threat at home.

Cazeneuve said France would pass a law permitting the confiscation of passports to stop people suspected of wanting to travel to Syria. Another proposed law would permit foreign residents to be immediately deported if linked by police to terrorism overseas.

France, in conjunction with European partners, also plans to increase its monitoring of Web sites that post videos and other messages inciting jihadi activities.

Cazeneuve said he has already discussed France’s initiatives with his counterparts in Germany and Austria and planned to work with Britain next.

Several other European countries have been dealing to varying degrees with the phenomenon of citizen jihadis. Belgium is hosting an international conference on homegrown Syrian fighters May 8.

"Britain to investigate Islamic group" New York Times   April 02, 2014

LONDON — Prime Minister David Cameron ordered an inquiry into the activities in Britain of the Muslim Brotherhood, one of the most prominent Islamic organizations, to determine in part whether it is using London as a base for planning extremist attacks following the military crackdown in Egypt, officials and media reports said Tuesday.

British governments have moved against smaller Islamic militant groups but have tended to cast the Brotherhood in a different, more moderate light, particularly after Mohammed Morsi was elected Egypt’s president in 2012. Morsi was overthrown last year by the military, and Egypt, like Saudi Arabia, has since declared the Brotherhood a terrorist group.

That's funny, because along with Qatar they were the ones funding it.

A spokeswoman for Cameron said the Brotherhood “has risen in prominence in recent years but our understanding of the organization, its philosophy and values, has not kept pace with this.”

“It’s absolutely right and prudent that we get a better handle of what the Brotherhood stands for, how they intend to achieve their aims, and what that means for Britain,” she said.

The inquiry, to be headed by Sir John Jenkins, Britain’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, is to end by midsummer, officials said.

Word of the inquiry first emerged in The Times of London, which said leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood met in London last year to plan their response to Morsi’s overthrow.

Since Morsi was overthrown, jihadists have carried out assassinations and hundreds of bombings.

"UK seeks to stop flow of youths to Syrian wary" by Karla Adam | Washington Post   April 25, 2014

LONDON — British counterterrorism officials made a direct appeal Thursday to mothers, wives, sisters, and girlfriends, urging them to persuade family members not to travel to Syria to take part in that country’s bloody civil war.

Authorities across Europe are increasingly concerned about the number of would-be jihadists traveling to Syria to fight against President Bashar Assad’s regime. On Wednesday, French authorities announced new measures that they hope will curb the numbers of young people boarding flights to Syria, such as urging suspicious parents to inform police about their children’s plans.

In Britain, police chiefs are focusing on female family members because ‘‘women are strong influences in families, they are able to identify changes in behavior, and they are often willing to seek help for their families,’’ Helen Ball, senior national coordinator for counterterrorism, said of the plan.

OMG!

Critics questioned whether women would necessarily be willing to tip off authorities about their loved ones’ activities. Keith Vaz, chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee, told the BBC that London’s Metropolitan Police was not a counseling service.

“They are the first stage in the criminal enforcement process,” he said. “And families may be very reluctant to do this.’’

As many as 400 British Muslims are believed to have traveled to Syria since the conflict began. Authorities are concerned that some may return radicalized, leading to violence at home.

Good thing MI-5 and MI-6 are on their trails!

"Suicide bomber in Syria identified as Fla. man; Attack was first by an American" by Mark Mazzetti, Eric Schmitt and Michael S. Schmidt | New York Times   May 31, 2014

WASHINGTON — An American who blew himself up in an attack in Syria on Sunday has been identified by law enforcement officials as Moner Mohammad Abusalha, a man who grew up in Florida and traveled to Syria late last year.

Won't have to worry about him returning unless propaganda pre$$ yanks him out of grave.

So who was he working for? Who contracted him out? What was his mission?

The officials said they believed that Abusalha, who adopted the nom de guerre Abu Huraira al-Amriki, used a large truck in helping to carry out the bombing in the northern province of Idlib, where he had traveled after spending two months in a training camp of the militant group the Nusra Front in Aleppo. The officials said they thought it was the first time an American had been involved in a suicide attack in Syria.

Already reeking!

US law enforcement and intelligence agencies made the identification without examining any remains.

(Do I even need to type the head shake?)

The size of the blast, which was shown on a video posted online by the Nusra Front, has led the authorities to believe that there is little, if anything, left of the body.

Oh, well, video cited online by lying government and mouthpiece pre$$. Now I'm convinced.

The agencies came to their conclusion after analyzing intelligence from sources in Syria and in foreign governments, and information gleaned from interviews with family members and friends of the bomber in Florida, one official said.

“It’s not like we have a dental makeup,” the official said, referring to how coroners often use teeth to identify a deceased person.

Did you find a passport after the fireball?

A Facebook profile of a man with the same name has pictures that appear to be of the same person shown in photos on jihadist websites.

That could have been created by an intelligence agency for this purpose! C'mon!

Abusalha had been among several dozen Americans on the radar of federal law enforcement officials because of past trips to Syria.

Then there is NO WAY they can DO TERROR HERE unless they are ALLOWED TO or SET UP!

One senior law enforcement official said the authorities believed the attack occurred during Abusalha’s second visit to Syria to fight alongside Islamist militants who are battling the government of President Bashar Assad. He had been in Syria since late last year, said officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of a continuing investigation.

News of the suicide attack surfaced Tuesday in Twitter messages from the Nusra Front, an Islamist extremist group in Syria aligned with Al Qaeda.

Pfft!

US officials have not officially made public the name of Abusalha, who was believed to have been in his 20s or 30s. But Friday at a State Department briefing, a spokesman confirmed that the bomber was a US citizen.

Oh, well....

A Syrian fighter from the Nusra Front recalled Abu Huraira as an Arab-American who spoke Arabic poorly but was dedicated to the jihadist cause. “He was a generous, brave, tough man, always on the front lines in battles,” said the fighter, who identified himself as Abu Abdulrahman, and said Abu Huraira was currently in Idlib province, where the bombing took place.

A statement posted online by the Nusra Front said that Abu Huraira had been one of four suicide bombers sent to open a rebel assault on government forces near the city of Ariha in northern Syria.

Aren't those the "good terrorists" as opposed to ISIS?

On Sunday morning, the statement said, Abu Huraira drove a vehicle loaded with 16 tons of explosives to hit a mountaintop restaurant where government forces were based. He was followed by three other bombers. Two of them also blew themselves up, and one managed to park his vehicle and retreat before the explosives detonated.

Intelligence and law enforcement officials said Friday that it is easy for US citizens to get in and out of Syria, and that many travel there for humanitarian reasons, presenting a challenge in determining who might be planning to carry out terror attacks in the United States.

PFFT!

"Jihadi supporters arrested in Spain, Germany" Associated Press   June 16, 2014

MADRID — Eight people were arrested in Spain and a further three in Germany for suspected links with jihadi groups, especially in Iraq and Syria, authorities said Monday.

A Spanish Interior Ministry statement said police detained the eight in Madrid early Monday on suspicion of recruiting jihadi militants for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.

It said the cell was led by a person who lives in Spain but had previously been jailed in Guantanamo Bay after being arrested in Afghanistan in 2001.

So we better keep 'em all in the hole, right?

In Berlin, prosecutors’ spokesman Martin Steltner said police on Saturday arrested a 30-year-old Frenchman suspected of ‘‘supporting a terrorist organization’’ by fighting in Syria for the group.

Steltner said the suspect, who wasn’t named because of German privacy laws, was wounded in fighting. He has also allegedly appeared in ISIS propaganda videos. A court will decide on his extradition to France in the coming weeks.

I'm actually enjoying the loads of propaganda they are shoveling so much these days because it makes the fraud, fakery, deception, and distortion all the more obvious.

Once the mouthpiece pre$$ has no clothes....

The French Interior Ministry said in a statement that the suspect was arrested upon arrival from Istanbul.

German police also arrested a 27-year-old German woman at Frankfurt Airport on Thursday, and a 17-year-old German in Stuttgart on Friday. Both are being linked to Islamist extremist groups.

Not rightist nationalist Nazis?
