Slow Saturday Special: You Can Name This Post Yourself

I wouldn't want to use the wrong words:

"Pa. school board limits ‘Redskins’ ban"  Associated Press   June 28, 2014

BENSALEM, Pa. — A suburban Philadelphia school board has approved a policy limiting — but not completely eliminating — a school newspaper’s ability to ban use of the word ‘‘Redskins’’ when referring to the school’s sports teams or mascot.

The Neshaminy school board voted 8-1 without discussion Thursday night to approve the revised policy that bars the Bucks County high school newspaper from banning the name of the mascot from its editorials or its letters to the editor. The changes give students more control of the news section of The Playwickian but retain a 10-day review period, restrictions on comments on articles, and other limitations.

The newspaper staff voted in October to ban the use of ‘‘Redskins,’’ calling it a racial slur, but some district officials have maintained that students aren’t allowed to do that. The student editors and their attorney, who maintain that the policy is inconsistent with state law and the US Constitution, said they would discuss their next step.

Jack Haines, the managing editor, especially objected to a provision allowing the principal to censor the paper for ‘‘any reasonable reason.”

‘‘It essentially boils down to an administrator being able to censor for any reason he deems reasonable,’’ he said.

"Pa. fathers protest child support text" Associated Press   June 06, 2014

YORK, Pa. — Some men in central Pennsylvania are protesting a text message they received from a county agency urging them to celebrate Father’s Day by paying child support.

The ca$h-grabbing greed of government has really become unbearable.

‘‘Looking for the ideal Father’s Day gift? Make a child suport payment!!!!’’ Wednesday’s message from the York County Domestic Relations agency read, according to The York Dispatch.

One recipient, Ricardo Reyes, told the paper that he was offended by the implication that all dads are deadbeat dads. He said he is up to date on payments and a member of the Daddy Project of York, a group aimed at helping men be positive role models.

The $tate is the $tinkie$t $tereotyper out there.

‘‘Do they send that text out to mothers on Mother’s Day?’’ he said. ‘‘That’s offensive. I know that I’m not a deadbeat. I know I’m involved in my child’s life in whatever way possible.’’

Jesse Mauss, 33, of Dover Township, said he’s also current on payments, and the text upset him by implying that fathers are only good for money. ‘I know there’s some deadbeat dads out there, but others are working hard,’’ he said.

Don't take it personal; the $tate $ees all of us that way, man, woman, whatever.

Agency director Theresa Gross said the message wasn’t meant to offend anyone, and a similar one would be sent on Mother’s Day.

Honestly, we are sick of $cum government and their lame-ass insensitivity and excuses.

"Infant’s abductor sentenced in Pa." Associated Press   June 25, 2014

PITTSBURGH — A woman who dressed as a nurse and abducted a 3-day-old boy from a Pittsburgh hospital in a handbag was sentenced Tuesday to 2½ to 5 years in prison, followed by 10 years probation.

‘‘All I wanted to do was love someone,’’ Breona Moore told the Allegheny County judge who sentenced her.

County prosecutors charged that Moore, 21, of East McKeesport, told friends for weeks that she was pregnant and had given birth before buying hospital scrubs and pretending to be a nurse at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC in August 2012.

Moore was able to take the baby by entering the mother’s room and telling her the child needed to be taken for a medical test, authorities said.

Relatives doubted the pregnancy and called police when they heard about the kidnapping on the news.

Police found Moore hiding in the closet of a downtown office building a few hours later, holding the baby. The baby was not harmed.

Deputy District Attorney Janet Necessary argued for prison, despite Moore’s somewhat pathetic circumstances.

‘‘This was not an impulse or spur-of-the-moment thing,’’ Necessary said. ‘‘The defendant made a detailed plan.’’

Moore told the judge she became depressed after a doctor told her she would be unable to have children.

Didn't get a second opinion?
