Boston police are investigating a man wearing a black ski mask who allegedly broke into three homes in a neighborhood full of college students in Brighton early Tuesday, each time leaving without taking anything.
Time for an inspection.
In one of the break-ins, about 5:20 a.m., David C. Master said, he was startled by screams from one of his roomates in their four-bedroom basement apartment on Foster Street.
“My roommate woke up to a tickling on his foot. He thought it was a cat at first,’’ Master said in an interview. “He woke up, and there was a man crouched by his bed. He started yelling and the man ran out. I woke up and saw [the masked man] run by my door’’ and then run out the unit’s door.
Master’s brother, John, another roommate, said he slept through the incident.
The roommate told police about waking up with the man kneeling next to his bed but did not mention being tickled or touched in any way, said Officer Neva Coakley, a police spokeswoman.
Coakley said there were two other reported break-ins in the area, one on Foster Street and one on nearby Kirkwood Road. No one interviewed by police reported being touched or tickled by the suspect, Coakley said.
Master said he saw the masked intruder run out of the basement apartment through a patio door and then make two rights, which would have taken the suspect into the building’s parking lot, which leads back to Foster Street.
Master said he and his roommates did not pursue the man. The man apparently walked in through their unlocked patio door, which overlooks a rear entrance to the property that connects to Rogers Park. The roommates will lock the door going forward, Master said.
The first break-in was reported around 3:50 a.m., according to Coakley. Residents in a home on Foster Street said they found a masked man in their home. When they spotted him, he ran in an unknown direction, Coakley said.
An hour later, residents on nearby Kirkwood Road reported a man fitting the same description inside their home and also fleeing once discovered, Coakley said.
At about 5:20 a.m., the Boston College students encountered the masked man in their Foster Street apartment.
