NEW YORK — A man who shot a video of a fatal police chokehold has been arrested on a gun charge, police said Sunday.
Ramsey Orta, 22, was arrested Saturday night on Staten Island on a charge of criminal possession of a firearm, police said. The unloaded semiautomatic weapon recovered from Orta was reported stolen in Michigan in 2007, police said.
Orta is in a hospital being treated for a medical condition. It was not clear whether he had a lawyer.
Orta shot the video of an officer using a chokehold to restrain Eric Garner on July 17. Garner died shortly after.
The death sparked an outcry against the police.

The New York City medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, saying Garner was killed by neck compressions from the chokehold and ‘‘the compression of his chest and prone positioning during physical restraint by police.’’
Asthma, heart disease, and obesity were contributing factors in the death of the 43-year-old Garner, a 6-foot-3, 350-pound father of six.
I saw that video on television, and they pounced on that guy when he wasn't even threatening anyone.
Of course, it is his own fault. That is what my propaganda pre$$ implies.
So now six children are without a father, huh?
Don't worry, though. Nothing will happen to NYPDs finest.
Garner’s widow, Esaw, and the Rev. Al Sharpton have called for an arrest in his death.

The confrontation between the white police officer who used the chokehold, Daniel Pantaleo, and Garner, who is black, prompted calls by Sharpton for a federal civil rights investigation.
Chokeholds are prohibited by the NYPD, but partial video of the confrontation shows the officer placing a chokehold on Garner, who was being arrested on suspicion of selling untaxed, loose cigarettes.
Talk about a LACK of JUDGEMENT!

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A 6-year-old boy drove his battery-powered toy car onto a suburban parkway before motorists rescued him, police said Monday.
Westchester County police spokesman Kieran O’Leary said three drivers formed a slow-moving shield around the boy on the Bronx River Parkway, then one pulled over and ran to grab the boy and his little vehicle and move them onto the shoulder.
‘‘A couple of cars were behind him, maybe another alongside him a little bit, somewhat protecting him from the possibility of being struck by a car that wouldn’t have seen him in time,’’ O’Leary said.
O’Leary said the boy had been out with relatives in a Mount Vernon park about 10 blocks from the parkway. A cousin who was watching him got distracted and the boy took off in his blue-and-gray toy ATV, O’Leary said.
‘‘It kind of just happened in the blink of an eye,’’ he said.
The family spent 20 to 30 minutes looking for him, then went to police at about 7:40 p.m., ‘‘just as we started getting 911 calls that there’s a child on the Bronx River Parkway operating a toy vehicle,’’ O’Leary said.
Cars routinely go 50 miles per hour in that area.
The boy was checked out at a hospital, found to be OK, and then reunited with his family.
