Russian Column Retreats From Ukraine

Putin just blinked!

"Most of convoy of Russian trucks returns from Ukraine; Germany pledges $690m to aid refugees, rebuild" by Andrew Higgins and David M. Herszenhorn | New York Times   August 24, 2014

Sigh.

MOSCOW — The huge convoy of Russian trucks that entered war-torn eastern Ukraine on Friday, sharply escalating tensions, returned to Russia on Saturday after unloading food and medicine in the city of Luhansk, but questions about alleged Russian artillery in Ukraine persisted.

Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany visited the Ukrainian capital of Kiev and pledged $690 million for the rebuilding of areas of eastern Ukraine and aid to refugees.

I'm sure the German people are going to love $eeing that.

At least helping to de$troy eastern Ukraine benefits $ome contractor.

The German pledge, the latest in a series of European offers to assist Ukraine since the toppling of President Viktor Yanukovych in February, signaled a desire by Europe not to let Russia become the sole benefactor of the Russian-speaking eastern portion of Ukraine.

The death and destruction wrought for geopolitical needs is disgusting. What a band of western war criminals will history decide.

It was also accompanied by warnings from Merkel that the government in Kiev could not subdue pro-Russia rebels through force alone.

They have just about taken all the land, or so I have been led to believe, so wheat's with the stop sign now?

In Kiev, a military spokesman, Colonel Andriy Lysenko, accused Russia of using some of the aid trucks to take military equipment from Ukrainian factories back to Russia, but he offered no evidence to support his assertion.

Because there is none, and man am I ever sick of the constant shit-shoveling lies. Sorry.

Lysenko said the equipment was taken from the Topaz plant, which makes Kolchuga, a type of radar system, and from a factory in Luhansk that produces firearms magazines. He also said Russia was continuing to fire artillery and missiles at Ukrainian military positions.

Really?

At the United Nations in New York, Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin rejected new accusations from NATO that Russian troops and artillery were inside Ukraine. Russia has steadfastly denied arming the rebels.

Yeah, but we all know those Russians are liars.

Wait, that is my government and the war-promoting ma$$ media mouthpiece. Sorry.

Kiev and its allies, including the United States and major European countries, have raised suspicions about the aid convoy, fearing that the trucks could be used to carry arms and other supplies to militants who seem to be on the verge of defeat in their fight against the Ukrainian government.

The trucks were checked; only food inside, thus the operative word "could."

In the rebel-held eastern city of Donetsk, heavy artillery bombardments struck at least three areas Saturday.

So as all the pre$$ attention is the aid convoy and the casting of aspersions is on Russian motives.... PFFFFT!

Squeaker!

Artillery shells exploded in a residential district near a traffic roundabout and rebel checkpoint near the city center, killing three people and wounding others while missing a separatist military installation. Neighbors said the three dead were members of a family caught in the open while running for a bomb shelter.

The Khazarian connection, obviously (see Israel, Gaza).

Ukraine’s military, determined to reconquer eastern areas seized by rebels, has stepped up a drive to oust the separatists from their last major strongholds, encircling the cities of Donetsk and Luhansk, the destination of the Russian aid convoy that crossed into Ukraine on Friday.

Yeah, the spin is the dickering over what's in those aid trucks! Ignore the shelling of civilians by then "good guys!"

By Saturday, most of the more than 200 trucks appeared to have driven back into Russia without incident after unloading their cargo of food, water, and other supplies.

Russia’s decision to send the convoy across the border without an escort by the International Committee of the Red Cross or final clearance from the Ukrainian government in Kiev had drawn harsh criticism.

AmeriKan missile strikes to liberate Yazidis? No problem, and now talking attack on Syria to stop ISIS? No big deal.

Un-f***ing-believable propaganda! What absolute garbage!

President Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine called the move a “flagrant violation of international law.”

HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!

Is Petrolshenko still going to meet with Putin?

Another senior Ukrainian official denounced it as a “direct invasion.” And Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen of NATO, in a statement condemning the convoy’s entry, said it coincided with a “major escalation in Russian military involvement in eastern Ukraine.”

The beating of the war drums is deafening.

Vice President Joe Biden spoke with Poroshenko on Saturday and “commended Ukraine’s restraint in the face of Russia’s blatant provocation and disregard of Ukraine’s sovereignty,” according to a White House statement.

How's the Ukraine oil and gas business working out for one of your sons, Joe?

What a $phincter.

Poroshenko told Biden that most of the Russian trucks had returned to Russia, the statement said. Poroshenko voiced concerns about “continued Russian military activity,” the statement said, including the firing of artillery directly into the Ukrainian town of Novoazovsk.

Never mind all the NATO patrols, et al.

It's all Russia in its own country, too. NATO has been exposed as truly evil force.

By swiftly returning the trucks to Russia, the Kremlin seemed to seize an opportunity to make its detractors in Kiev and the West appear alarmist, and the Foreign Ministry said the goals all along had been strictly humanitarian.

Not alarmist, but WAR MONGERING -- and I have catalogued the propaganda pre$$ to prove it.

“We are satisfied that the Russian humanitarian aid for southeast Ukraine was delivered to the destination,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “We were guided in this exclusively by the goal of helping needy civilians.”

During his meeting in Kiev with Merkel, Poroshenko said that 185 trucks had returned to Russia. It was unclear where the rest of a fleet that crossed into Ukraine on Friday had gone.

Russian news media reported that some of the trucks might move from Luhansk to Donetsk.

While Moscow cheered a successful aid mission, Poroshenko said Ukraine’s “strong and coordinated efforts managed to avoid provocation.”

This stuff is reaching coming proportions.

Russian television stations, largely controlled by the government, had carried constant coverage of the convoy crossing the border Friday.

Why Am I No Longer Reading the Newspaper?

FYI, folks.

The Russian Foreign Ministry declared the humanitarian crisis in eastern Ukraine so grave that it could no longer tolerate what it described as stalling by the Ukrainian government and the Red Cross, which had agreed to oversee the convoy.

Yazidis, Iraq. Not Gazans.

The aid convoy’s swift return suggested that, at least for a moment, President Vladimir Putin of Russia had scored a public relations victory, especially on the domestic front.

Obummer must be so envious.

That crap bums me out.

NEXT DAY UPDATE:

"Rebels parade captured Ukrainian soldiers | Associated Press   August 25, 2014

DONETSK, Ukraine — To shouts of ‘‘fascists’’ and ‘‘Hang them from a tree,’’ captured Ukrainian soldiers were paraded through the streets of the rebel stronghold of Donetsk on Sunday as bystanders pelted them with eggs, tomatoes, and water bottles.

The spectacle of the bruised and filthy soldiers being marched, hands bound and surrounded by gun-toting pro-Russian insurgents, came as Ukrainians in Kiev celebrated their country’s independence from the Soviet Union — a stark display of the growing divisions between east and west.

My first thought? Staged and scripted fiction. Sorry.

For one thing, it's a war crime to do that. For another, consider my source.

While support and mobilization for Kiev’s campaign against the separatists has grown in many parts of the country, resentments fester in much of the east, where civilian casualties and shelling have become a part of daily life.

I'm in absolute wonderment at how the propaganda pre$$ so smoothly skates over that.

When good guys shell and murder, I suppose....

Illustrating the divisions, an ostentatious procession of tanks and weaponry rumbled through downtown Kiev to mark Ukraine’s 23d anniversary of independence from Moscow — a highly publicized event accompanied by speeches and a vow by President Petro Poroshenko to boost defense spending to defeat the rebels.

That means the 1.5% war tax surcharge is going up?

This is madness. In order to get back the territory they are going to destroy it, not get it back anyway, and even if they do how are you going to control the place?

In Kiev, more than 20,000 people, many waving the country’s blue-and-yellow flags or donning traditional embroidered shirts, watched the parade on the city’s Independence Square, where months of protests earlier this year ended in the ouster of the country’s former pro-Russian president.

Too bad because as it turns out the Russian deal was way better than the IMF-EU designed privation, which led to the illegal overthrow of the elected government and installation of an illegal junta that kicked all this off.

Anyway....

Poroshenko said Sunday that he would raise military spending by $3 billion through 2017, a 50 percent increase from current budget targets.

‘‘It is clear that in the foreseeable future there will always, unfortunately, be the threat of war,’’ the Ukrainian president said in an address to the highly militarized rally. ‘‘And we not only have to learn to live with that, we must always be prepared to defend our independence.’’

Notice how the concern of former Nazi collaborators and current partisan types has just faded away? Makes you wonder jwhose assets they really are.

In Donetsk, thousands gathered in the main square as the insurgents staged their own spectacle mocking the national army. To jeers and catcalls, dozens of captive soldiers, some wearing tattered Ukrainian military uniforms and some in torn and dirty civilian clothing, were forced to march past as nationalistic Russian songs blared from loudspeakers. They were flanked by rebels pointing bayoneted rifles.

Well, we know which protests are not met with approval in my propaganda pre$$ -- if it even happened at all. Could just be an axe-grinding paragraph of falsity.

Human Rights Watch said parading the Ukrainian soldiers was a violation of humanitarian law. In recent weeks, Kiev’s troops have scored heavy gains in the territory and encircled the east’s regional capitals of Luhansk and Donetsk.

Well, who is Juman Rights Watch anyway, and why are they always so timely in my agenda-pu$hing paper??

Early Sunday, artillery shells struck several residential buildings as well as a hospital and morgue in downtown Donetsk, although nobody was reported killed. The government has denied that Ukraine’s forces were responsible for the shelling of residential buildings or hospitals.

Yeah, they were all marching in the parade.

Those war crimes there just an afterthought of a paragraph.

See ya!
