Sunday Globe Special: Buried by Nepalese Landslide

It made print but not the website.

"Landslide kills 8; 100 still missing

A massive landslide killed at least eight people and blocked a mountain river in northern Nepal on Saturday, causing the water to form a lake that was threatening to burst and sweep several villages, officials said. The death toll could climb because many houses were buried under piles of rock and soil or submerged by the rising water. The Home Ministry ordered the army to remove the wall of mud and rocks that had created a temporary dam to be removed, and prepare for a disaster if the walls of the newly formed lake burst. The landslide occurred at around 3 a.m. in the Sindhupalchowk area (AP)."

Not on top of the world today, but neither are they alone.

These did make the site, but why not throw them in anyway?

"Bertha’s winds, rain lash island

SAN JUAN — Tropical Storm Bertha pushed just south of Puerto Rico on Saturday as it unleashed heavy rains and strong winds across the region, knocking out power on some islands in the eastern Caribbean. The storm’s maximum sustained winds held at 50 miles per hour, and slow strengthening was expected overnight. Bertha was centered about 110 miles west-southwest of San Juan and was expected to pass near southwest Puerto Rico and possibly over the eastern Dominican Republic (AP)."

"Shooting erupts, kills girl on porch

PHILADELPHIA — The shooting death of a 3-year-old girl sitting on a front porch was decried Saturday as senseless violence, with one family friend saying, ‘‘No baby deserves to die like that.’’ Police identified the girl as Tynirah Borum, who was hit in the chest by a stray bullet while getting her hair braided Friday. Three adults were injured, one critically. Police said they were questioning one person, but no arrests have been made. The gunfire erupted during an argument between a man on a bicycle and another man (AP)."

Almost as bad as Memphis, 'er, Detroit.

Skies were all clear here.
