Stray Shot From New Jersey

"Three men sought in death of toddler by stray bullet"  Associated Press   October 13, 2014

IRVINGTON, N.J. — Authorities are searching for three men in connection with the death of a toddler who was killed by a stray bullet that entered her family’s northern New Jersey apartment.

Essex County prosecutors said the men were wearing hoods as they walked up Ellis Avenue in Irvington on Saturday afternoon, spraying bullets as they went.

One bullet apparently passed through a wall and hit 15-month-old Sania Cunningham, who was bouncing on a bed in a bedroom as both her parents watched. They immediately took the child to a Newark Beth Israel Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Prosecutors say the family had lived in the apartment for just two days.

It is not clear whether the men had targeted someone or were firing randomly. Investigators also do not know who fired the gun.
