Pakistan: Missiles and the Minister

It's about a month's worth of news in my newspaper, readers:

"US drone strikes hitting few high-level targets in Pakistan, data show" by Greg Miller, Washington Post / February 27, 2011

WASHINGTON —The drone program is hitting senior operatives only a fraction of the time.

Then it is WHOLESALE MURDER and WAR CRIMES, isn't it?

After a year in which the CIA carried out a record 118 drone strikes, costing more than $1 million apiece, the results have raised questions about the purpose and parameters of the drone campaign.

That is the LAST F***ING THING I WANT MY TAX DOLLARS going for, dammit!!!!!!!!

Senior Pakistani officials recently asked the Obama administration to put new restraints on a targeted-killing program that the government in Islamabad has secretly authorized for years.

The CIA is increasingly killing “mere foot soldiers,’’ a senior Pakistani official said, adding that the issue has come up in discussions in Washington involving President Asif Ali Zardari. The official said Pakistan has pressed the Americans “to find better targets, do it more sparingly, and be a little less gung-ho.’’

How about ENDING the DAMN THINGS altogether?

I mean, we are THERE over a pack of DAMN LIES!!  When you really think about it, ALL those people under the drones are INNOCENTS then -- or patsy dupes since "Al-CIA-Duh" and these other "terrorist organizations"are a WESTERN INTELLIGENCE AGENCY CREATION!!

Analysts who track the strikes closely said a program that began with intermittent lethal attacks on Al Qaeda leaders has evolved into a campaign that seems primarily focused on lower-level fighters.

Readers, this is REALLY MAKING ME SICK right now!

Yeah, just LET the MISSILES FLY whoever the hell they are!!

Peter Bergen, a director at the New America Foundation, said data on the strikes indicate that 94 percent of fatalities are lower-level militants.

Related: 60 drone hits kill 14 al-Qaeda men, 687 civilians

Wow, they have really improved their percentage, huh?

“I think it’s hard to make the case that the 94 percent cohort threaten the United States in some way,’’ Bergen said. “There’s been very little focus on that question from a human rights perspective. Targeted killings are about leaders — it shouldn’t be a blanket dispensation.’’

He hasn't been reading my commentaries.

Even former CIA officials who describe the program as essential said they have noted how infrequently they recognized the names of those killed during the barrage of strikes in the past year.

Yeah, SO MANY LOST SOULS -- and there the anger fades away to a struggling sadness when I think of those beautiful people up in the hills with their fractured families.  People who JUST WANTED to be LEFT ALONE!!

The CIA declined to comment on a program that the agency refuses to acknowledge publicly. But US officials familiar with drone operations said the strikes are hitting important Al Qaeda operatives and are critical to keeping the country safe.

Yeah, ANYTHING to JUSTIFY MASS MURDER from ON HIGH by the EMPIRE!!!!!

“This effort has evolved because our intelligence has improved greatly over the years, and we’re able to identify not just senior terrorists, but also Al Qaeda foot soldiers who are planning attacks on our homeland and our troops in Afghanistan,’’ said a US official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the classified program.

That paragraph is one reason I'm so sick of the newspaper, and why I hate my lying shit government and its mouthpiece media!

“We would be remiss if we didn’t go after people who have American blood on their hands,’’ the official said....

So WHEN are you guys going to GO AFTER Israel?

Yeah, turns out Muslims didn't do 9/11 at all.

The data about the drone strikes provide a blurry picture at best, because of the reliance on Pakistani media reports and anonymous accounts from US government sources.

That's the prism of my morning newspaper!

Even so, data suggest that the ratio of senior terrorism suspects being killed is declining at a substantial rate....

Then it's MURDER, ain't it??!!

So how many more bodies has Obama add to the toll?

"US missiles kill 6, Pakistani officials say" by Associated Press / February 25, 2011

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Suspected US missiles hit a house and car in a village in northwest Pakistan close to the Afghan border yesterday, killing at least six people, Pakistani intelligence officials said.

The strikes occurred within minutes of each other in the North Waziristan region, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not allowed to brief the media.

Unmanned drones frequently fire missiles at suspected Al Qaeda and Taliban militants on the Pakistani side of the Afghan border. The attacks have emerged as a major weapon in Washington’s campaign against militants who are blamed for attacks in Afghanistan as well as plots against the West.

The officials said three missiles slammed into the house, killing four people. Two people were killed in the strike on the car. They did not identify the victims.

Yup, HOUSES and CARS!!

How would YOU like to be driving down the road or sitting at home and hearing a BIG WHOOSH before your WORLD LITERALLY EXPLODES, American?

Good God, WHAT the FUCK are we DOING over there?!!!!

American officials do not publicly acknowledge the program or who they are targeting.

Because THAT would be ADMITTING to WAR CRIMES!

Pakistani intelligence is believed to cooperate with the CIA in at least some of the attacks.

Yeah, that is why Pakistanis hate their government as much as Americans hate theirs.

There were on average two attacks a week last year, the most intense period of strikes since the program began in earnest in 2008. Most of the strikes hit North Waziristan, one of seven tribal regions in the border area and the only one where the Pakistani army has not launched any operations.

Also yesterday, unidentified gunmen in southwestern Pakistan attacked and set fire to two NATO oil tanker trucks that were traveling to Afghanistan.

"Taliban car bombing kills 20 in Pakistan" by Munir Ahmed, Associated Press / March 9, 2011

ISLAMABAD — The Taliban detonated a car bomb in Pakistan’s third-largest city yesterday, killing 20 and wounding more than 100 people in an attack they said targeted the offices of the country’s main intelligence agency.

The blast in the Punjabi city of Faisalabad underscored the reach of Al Qaeda and the Taliban in the US-allied nation.

Yup, "Al-CIA-Duh" is AT IT AGAIN!!

You know, you have to get up pretty early in the morning to fool a Pakistani -- or this particular American for that matter.

The militants are based in the tribal regions close to Afghanistan but have been able to tap into extremist networks in the country’s heartland of Punjab and strike there with regularity over the last three years.

The remote-controlled bomb also devastated a gas station and an office of Pakistan’s state airline in the industrial city. Police said the offices of a “sensitive’’ security agency were nearby but were not damaged in the attack.

Hmmmmmmmmmm!

Ahsanullah Ahsan, a Taliban spokesman, said that militants detonated the bomb by remote control and that the target was the Inter-Services Intelligence, a powerful agency that plays a major role in Pakistan’s fight against Islamist militants.

The ones the CIA man was helping?

How odd that the ISI was attacked after the CIA man murdered two of their agents.

He said the attack was revenge for the shooting of Omar Kundi, a militant commander, in Faisalabad last year by security forces.

I would like to believe my lying, Muslim-hating, war-promoting paper, but.... sigh.

Islamist militants seeking to overthrow the government have bombed hundreds of police, army, commercial, and civilian targets in Pakistan over the past three years. ISI offices in the Punjabi cities of Multan and Lahore have been attacked, as well as in the northwest city of Peshawar.

And BEHIND IT ALL has been the CIA helping its "Taliban" allies.

Yesterday’s bombing apparently caused secondary explosions at the fuel station, adding to the destruction, said Aftab Cheema, the Faisalabad police chief....

Faisalabad, 160 miles south of Islamabad, is home to Pakistan’s textile industry.

Militants have never staged a major attack there, but extremist groups have deep roots and are believed to be growing in strength.

Oh, AM I EVER SMELLING the STENCH of a FALSE FLAG ATTACK!!

The region is home to extremist networks that were once nurtured by the state to fight in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

NURTURED by the U.S. STATE, too!!

The United States has pushed Pakistan to crack down on Islamist extremist groups in its borders, saying they threaten not only Western troops engaged in the Afghan war effort but also the stability of Pakistan itself. The army has launched offensives in the northwest, but questions remain over whether the state has fully severed ties with extremist networks, especially those primarily fighting in Afghanistan.

In light of Davis' shenanigans this is REALLY INSULTING "journalism."

The United States regularly fires missiles from unmanned drones at militant targets in the border region.

One such attack yesterday killed five alleged militants in South Waziristan region, intelligence officials said on customary condition of anonymity.

The missiles hit a house near the main town of Wana, they said.

Hey, Obama, there is BLOOD on YOUR HANDS!!!

Missile attacks in South Waziristan have been rare over the last 16 months. The vast majority of the more than 120 attacks have been in North Waziristan. The Pakistan army launched a major offensive in the south in 2009, but has yet to move into the north.

"Suspected militants killed in Pakistan" by Associated Press / March 12, 2011

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan — A pair of US missile strikes killed five suspected militants in a Pakistani tribal region along the border with Afghanistan yesterday, intelligence officials said.

"Suspected" militants?

And if they were not?

The second strike apparently hit militants retrieving bodies from the first.

Or FAMILY MEMBERS and NEIGHBORS!!

Of course, the AmeriKan media would never obscure or obfuscate the issue!

The missiles landed in the Spinwam village area of North Waziristan, a tribal region largely under the control of militant groups whose primary focus is battling US and NATO forces across the border in Afghanistan. Pakistan has resisted taking action against insurgents in the territory, leaving US missile strikes as the primary weapon against them.

The first strike yesterday hit a vehicle carrying three militants in the village. A half-hour later, a second pair of missiles hit two other militants on foot as they were apparently trying to pick up the remains of those hit by the first attack, said two Pakistani intelligence officials.

The identities of the dead were not immediately clear, but that area of North Waziristan is dominated by fighters loyal to warlord Hafiz Gul Bahadur.

So we must have got some bad guys no matter who they were.

Who cares who they were and whether they had families and lives, right?

And just when you thought it was impossible for the lying AmeriKan media to raise it a notch:

"Ambush kills 9 civilians in Pakistan" by Associated Press / March 14, 2011

PARACHINAR, Pakistan — Gunmen ambushed a van and killed nine civilians yesterday in a stretch of northwestern Pakistan covered by a new peace deal among tribes from rival Muslim sects. Security forces responding to the attack killed three alleged gunmen, police said.

Oh, does THIS EVER STINK!!

The clash does not bode well for the future of the peace accord in the Kurram tribal region, which ended a four-year conflict that cost hundreds of lives....

Gee, and WHO BENEFITS when there is NO PEACE?!?!

Then I found out who the "peacemakers."

Tribesmen in Kurram have also reported that the Haqqani network, a fiercely independent branch of the Afghan Taliban and a major enemy of US and NATO forces, had cut a deal with the Shi’ites so it could use Kurram as a staging ground for fighting in Afghanistan.

Ah, the HAQQANI NETWORK!

"Haqqani.... credited with introducing suicide bombing to the region.... cultivated as a "unilateral" asset of the CIA and received tens of thousands of dollars in cash for his work.... He may have had a role in expediting the escape of Osama Bin Laden.... In July 2008, CIA officials confronted Pakistan officials with evidence of ties between Inter-Services Intelligence and Haqqani. Haqqani has been accused of involvement in the 2008 Indian embassy bombing in Kabul.... The Haqqani Network is based in Pakistan and is believed to have links to Al Qaeda."

Links to who?

And the EXTREMIST SUNNI TALIBAN TERRORIST Haqqani cut a DEAL with SHIITES that they consider WORSE HERETICS than GODLESS AmeriKans?!

Yeah, when they are not killing each other they are working together.

WHATEVER LIE WORKS at the TIME, right, corporate media?!?!

There have been reports that Taliban militants planned to take advantage of the peace deal to gain more territory along the Afghan border.

Sorry, I have HAD ENOUGH WAR PROPAGANDA, readers.

The Taliban, who adhere to a hard-line interpretation of Sunni Islam, have at times exploited sectarian and tribal feuds to spread their influence along the Pakistan-Afghan border.

So says my lying, agenda-pushing, Muslim-hating, war-promoting paper.

Pakistan’s tribal belt is a hotbed of Islamist militant groups, many linked to Al Qaeda.

Yeah, well, which "Al-CIA-Duh" would that be, BG?

The made-up "Al-CIA-Duh?"

Or the "Al-CIA-Duh" CREATION for the COURTROOM!?

The Pakistani Army has launched offensives in several areas, and the United States has fired hundreds of missiles at suspected militants using unmanned aircraft in the region.

Yesterday, Pakistani intelligence officials said three suspected US missile strikes in the country’s tribal regions killed seven alleged militants.

"Alleged?"

Maybe this will make the missiles stop:

"Pakistan condemns US drone attack" by Associated Press / March 18, 2011

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s army chief strongly condemned a US drone attack that killed more than three dozen people yesterday, saying the missiles struck a peaceful meeting of tribal elders near the Afghan border.

It's what we at the MSM Monitor call MASS MURDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The accusation by General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani adds tension to a relationship already strained by the shooting deaths of two Pakistanis by a CIA contractor who was freed Wednesday following a contentious deal to pay millions in “blood money’’ to the men’s families.

Yes, my newspaper never told us the Saudis put up the dough -- among so many other aspects of the case.

These conflicts make it that much harder for the United States to achieve its main goal in Pakistan: persuading the government to target Islamic militants on its territory. They regularly stage cross-border attacks against foreign troops in Afghanistan.

Maybe AmeriKa's CIA should stop supporting them.  That might help a bit, no?

“It is highly regrettable that a jirga [meeting] of peaceful citizens including elders of the area was carelessly and callously targeted with complete disregard to human life,’’ said Kayani in a written statement.
Happens EVERY TIME AmeriKa launches those things!!

Kayani’s condemnation conflicted with statements provided by Pakistani intelligence officials throughout the day saying that the 38 people killed and seven wounded in the attack were militants meeting to discuss sending additional fighters into Afghanistan.

The officials said the militants were allied with Hafiz Gul Bahadur, a powerful Pakistani Taliban leader in the area, and even gave the name of a senior militant, Sharabat Khan, who was reportedly killed in the attack.

So they deserved to be blown into oblivion anyway, right? If that's who was killed?

The compound was targeted by two pairs of missiles fired three minutes apart. It was located in the Datta Khel area of the North Waziristan tribal region — the main sanctuary for Al Qaeda and Taliban fighters along the Afghan border, said the intelligence officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters. Most reporters are barred from visiting the tribal region, so it is difficult to verify who is killed in attacks.

The United States refuses to publicly acknowledge the covert CIA drone program in Pakistan, but officials have said privately that strikes have killed several key Taliban and Al Qaeda commanders. They also say the number of civilians killed in the attacks is very low.

Yesterday’s strike came a day after Pakistan released Raymond Allen Davis, the CIA contractor who shot and killed two men on Jan. 27 in the eastern city of Lahore, allegedly in self defense. He was freed after heirs of his victims were given $2.34 million in exchange for a pardon.

Davis’s release has sparked small-scale protests in Pakistan’s major cities that many expect will intensify today after noon prayers. Kayani’s claim of civilian casualties in the drone strikes could add to the anger against the United States.

I sit here and feel so helpless.

All I can say is I AM SO SORRY, Pakistani people.  I have been SCREAMING and SWEARING for YEARS and the MASS-MURDERING WAR CRIMES over a LIE continue and continue.

I'm SORRY I have FAILED YOU!

"Pakistan’s minister for minorities is slain; Christian opposed hard-line stance " by Washington Post / March 3, 2011

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan’s federal minorities minister, a Christian, was gunned down by suspected Islamist militants in this capital city yesterday in the second killing this year of a senior government official who had spoken out against the country’s stringent anti-blasphemy laws.

Related: MSM Monitor: Pitting Pakistan's Christians Against Its Muslims

Sorry, I'M NOT BUYING IN to Christian-Muslim strife anymore no matter where it occurs.

WHO (rhymes with) BENEFITS when Christian and Muslims are at each others throats for no reason other than false-flag attacks intended to put us at each others throats?

Shahbaz Bhatti, the sole Christian Cabinet member in majority-Muslim Pakistan, was shot multiple times by gunmen who surrounded his car as he left for work from his mother’s house, near his own home in a residential neighborhood. The attackers fled, but fliers scattered at the scene denouncing Bhatti as an infidel bore the names of the militant Islamist groups Punjabi Taliban and Al Qaeda.

Oh, now I'm convinced.  So which CIA contractor was helping them?

The assassination represented a severe blow to Pakistani liberals, who are increasingly being silenced by Muslim hard-liners willing to use violence against those who do not share their harsh views....

But if Zionist hard-liners in Israel are willing to use violence, well, that's okay, and if peaceful protesters cries across the world are ignored, so what?

"US justice is promised in Pakistan case; Kerry working to free American held in 2 deaths" by Babar Dogar and Heidi Vogt, Associated Press / February 16, 2011

LAHORE, Pakistan — US Senator John Kerry promised the Pakistani people yesterday that a jailed US Embassy worker will be subjected to a US criminal investigation if he is released by the Pakistani government.

Related: Pakistan Protests

Kerry also expressed regret for the deaths of two Pakistani men in an apparent attempt to smooth over relations with the important ally in the war against extremists and Al Qaeda, while still insisting that the American needs to be released.

Yeah, he killed two ISI agents -- another thing the AmeriKan media omits.

Raymond Allen Davis, 36, has been held by Pakistani authorities since he fatally shot two Pakistanis in the eastern city of Lahore Jan. 27, and his case has become a bitter point of contention between Washington and Islamabad, whose relationship is considered key to ending the war in Afghanistan.

US officials have said Davis shot in self-defense when two armed men on a motorcycle tried to rob him. Pakistani police officials have said they plan to try him for murder, arguing that while the Pakistanis did have a loaded gun, there was no round in the chamber. They also allege Davis shot one of the victims who was trying to flee.

Regardless of guilt, the United States says the detention of Davis, a former Special Forces soldier and an embassy worker, is illegal under international agreements covering diplomats. US officials have threatened to withhold billions in aid to Pakistan unless Davis is freed....

We call that extortion.

In the southern city of Karachi yesterday, dozens of young men protested US efforts to win American Raymond Davis’s release. About 50 members of an Islamist political party gathered outside the Karachi press club, chanting “Down with America!’’ They also burned effigies of Obama and Kerry.

Upon arriving in Pakistan late Tuesday, Kerry expressed regret over the loss of life and promised that the United States will conduct a criminal investigation into the shooting if Davis is released.

We shall see.

Yesterday, Kerry met with President Asif Ali Zardari; the army chief, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani; and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Gilani’s office issued a statement saying the prime minister had raised the possibility of having the United States compensate the families of the dead in lieu of sending Davis to prison.

"Clinton presses for reform in Pakistan; Says cooperation is crucial to fight against terrorism" by Matthew Lee, Associated Press / February 19, 2011

NEW YORK — Amid an escalating diplomatic dispute, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said yesterday that Pakistan risks major instability at home and a hampered war effort in Afghanistan if it doesn’t implement reforms and stop fomenting anti-American sentiment.

In a speech yesterday to the Asia Society, Clinton spoke amid increasing tensions with Pakistan over the killing of two Pakistanis by an American official....

Was she slurring her words?

Clinton said Pakistan’s public finances are in disarray and that energy shortages are hampering economic growth and causing political instability there.

“Shocking, unjustified anti-Americanism will not resolve these problems,’’ she said....

Nor will Muslim-hating Zionist propaganda work here, Madame Secretary.

Clinton issued a warning to the Taliban and other extremists in Afghanistan that they must choose between war and peace as the United States increases military pressure on them.

Or else what?

And when is the SAME WARNING going to be issued to ISRAEL, hanh?!!!!!!

Clinton said reconciliation is the only way to ensure Afghanistan’s lasting stability and challenge extremists to abandon Al Qaeda and to align themselves with the government for the good of the country and their own safety.

“They cannot wait us out,’’ Clinton said. “They cannot defeat us. And they cannot escape this choice.’’

"American held in Pakistan is CIA contractor, US officials say; Davis on team that tracked terror groups; local officials knew of activity" by Mark Mazzetti, New York Times / February 22, 2011

WASHINGTON — The American arrested in Pakistan after shooting two men at a crowded traffic stop was part of a covert, CIA-led team of operatives collecting intelligence and conducting surveillance on militant groups deep inside the country, according to US government officials.

Right, that is ALL THEY WERE DOING!!

Working from a safe house in the eastern city of Lahore, the detained US contractor, Raymond A. Davis, a retired Special Forces soldier, carried out scouting and other reconnaissance missions as a security officer for CIA case officers and technical specialists conducting operations, the officials said.

Davis’s arrest and detention, which came after what US officials have described as a botched robbery attempt, have inadvertently pulled back the curtain on a web of covert US operations inside Pakistan, part of a secret war run by the CIA....

And the FACT that "Al-CIA-Duh" is a WESTERN INTELLIGENCE CREATION that is DIRECTED and FUNDED by WESTERN INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES!!!

Davis has worked for years as a CIA contractor, including time at Blackwater Worldwide, the controversial private security firm (now called Xe) that Pakistanis have long viewed as symbolizing a culture of American gunslinging overseas.

The New York Times had agreed to temporarily withhold information about Davis’s ties to the agency at the request of the Obama administration, which argued that disclosure of his specific job would put his life at risk.

"Pakistan releases CIA contractor; Davis freed as families get ‘blood money’" by Greg Miller and Shaiq Hussain, Washington Post / March 17, 2011

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A CIA security contractor who fatally shot two Pakistani men in January was released yesterday after relatives of the victims received “blood money’’ as compensation and agreed to pardon him, US officials said.

Raymond Davis was released from a Pakistani jail in Lahore after nearly two months in detention and was flown to meet with US officials in Kabul....

The decision to free Davis resolves what had become a high-stakes diplomatic standoff and a signal of mounting tensions between the CIA and its Pakistani counterpart, the Inter-Services Intelligence directorate, or ISI....

Well, when you kill three of their agents while trying to give nuclear and biological material to "Al-CIA-Duh...."

The US official confirmed that so-called blood money had been paid to family members of the shooting victims. In Pakistan, there is a tradition of such payments in return for pardoning the perpetrator of a crime, in accordance with Islamic Sharia law.

Related: `Blood money was paid by S. Arabia`

And AmeriKa obeying Sharia law?

Is there no end to the hypocrisy?

An official close to the negotiations said three Pakistani families each received between $700,000 and $1 million as part of the deal to free Davis.

I'd usually make some comment about American taxpayers getting stuck with the tab; however, apparently the Saudis picked it up -- another omission from my newspaper.

In addition to the two men killed by Davis, a third Pakistani died after being struck by a vehicle carrying CIA personnel attempting to retrieve Davis after the shooting....

The release of Davis stunned Pakistanis, and opponents immediately accused the Zardari government of bowing to US pressure and selling the nation’s sovereignty by allowing him to be pardoned for blood money. Hundreds of angry protesters tried to gather outside the US consulate in Lahore, where they were beaten back by police. Religious groups said they planned nationwide protests today....

And the U.S. criticism for the mistreatment of protesters?

Davis, 36, was a member of a security team assigned to protect CIA operatives in Lahore collecting intelligence on targets including Lashkar-e-Taiba, a militant Islamist group tied to terrorist attacks against India and long backed by the ISI.

Yeah, right, it is the Pakistan Spy Agency responsible for supporting "terrorists" -- as "Al-CIA-Duh" tries to hand them nuclear and biological material.

Has the AmeriKan news media no shame?

US officials said serious negotiations to resolve the dispute began three weeks ago when Senator John F. Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, made a surprise trip to Pakistan at the request of the administration to try to ease tensions and encourage talks.

“This was a very important and necessary step for both of our countries to be able to maintain our relationship and remain focused on progress on bedrock national interests, and I’m deeply grateful for the Pakistani government’s decision,’’ Kerry said last night.

What a sickening tool and national embarrassment.

CIA and ISI officials also met in attempts to smooth out disagreements over issues including ISI claims that the CIA was mounting secret operations inside Pakistan without informing their hosts.

What, Pakistan's government doesn't like AmeriKan spies setting up patsies for false-flag attacks that will provide for a complete invasion and occupation of their country?

WASHINGTON —The Navy reported that several US ships involved in the relief effort had to be moved away from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant after officials found out that the ships and 17 helicopter crew members had been exposed to low levels of radiation....

US officials said the design of the Japanese reactors and the distance across the Pacific Ocean mean there is little probability of harmful levels of radiation reaching the United States, including Hawaii or US territories....

What a LIE!!!!!!

And then they DID IT AGAIN!

"Nuclear crisis worsening, US says; Radiation called ‘extremely high’; all work at plant could be halted" by David E. Sanger, Matthew L. Wald, and Hiroko Tabuchi, New York Times / March 17, 2011

WASHINGTON — Gregory Jaczko’s most startling assertion was that there was now little or no water in the pool storing spent nuclear fuel at the No. 4 reactor of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, leaving fuel rods exposed and bleeding radiation into the atmosphere....

Occurring as I type, dear reader.

In the worst case, specialists say, workers could be forced to vacate the plant altogether and the fuel rods in reactors and spent fuel pools would be left to melt down, leading to much larger releases of radioactive materials.

That is where we are headed, folks.

While radiation levels at the plant have varied tremendously, Jaczko said that the peak levels reported there “would be lethal within a fairly short period of time.’’

He added that another spent fuel pool, at Reactor No. 3, may also be losing water and could soon be in the same condition....

Related: For workers at reactor, unthinkable risk

While maps of the plume of radiation being given off by the plant show that an elongated cloud will stretch across the Pacific, American officials said it would be so dissipated by the time it reached the West Coast of the United States it would not pose a health threat.

This is the SAME GOVERNMENT that LIED about PLUMES of OIL in the GULF, right?

Yeah, NO DANGER from the RADIOACTIVE CLOUD that is GROWING, Americans!

American officials were careful to offer no public comparisons to past nuclear accidents when discussing the Fukushima disaster. But clearly the crisis in Japan already far outstrips what happened at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania....

The spent fuel pools can be even more dangerous than the active fuel rods, as they are not contained in thick steel containers like the reactor core. As they are exposed to air, the zirconium metal cladding on the rods can catch fire, and a deadly mix of radioactive elements can spew into the atmosphere. The most concern surrounds Cesium-137, which has a half-life of 30 years and can get into food supplies or be inhaled....

Isn't the PACIFIC OCEAN a HUGE FOOD SOURCE?

And now it is to be SPOILED like the GULF?

"No signs of life in remote villages; Further horror as thousands of bodies wash up along devastated coastline" by Jay Alabaster and Todd Pitman, Associated Press / March 15, 2011

TAGAJO, Japan — Thousands of bodies washed up along Japan’s coastline yesterday, overwhelming crematoriums and adding to the spiraling humanitarian, economic, and nuclear crisis after the massive earthquake and tsunami.

Millions of people faced a fourth night without water, food, or heat in near-freezing temperatures along the northeast coast devastated by Friday’s disasters. As aftershocks and a nuclear reactor emergency continued, the stock market plunged over the likelihood of huge losses by Japanese industries.

The tsunami that barreled into northeast Japan on Friday was so ruinous that essentially no one was left to save when search-and-rescue teams finally reached several remote villages yesterday.

As bodies washed ashore, firefighters were digging others out of the debris using pickaxes and chain saws. Funeral homes and crematoriums are overwhelmed, and officials have run out of body bags and coffins....

Initial estimates put rebuilding and repair costs in the tens of billions of dollars, costs that would likely add to Japan’s massive public debt, which, at 200 percent of gross domestic product, is the biggest among industrialized nations.

That should make the banker's happy.

Barrie Cornes, an insurance analyst at Panmure Gordon & Co. in London, warned that with the tsunami bill added in, the cost to the global insurance industry could rise above $60 billion dollars, which would make it the most expensive disaster after Hurricane Katrina....

Oh, the poor accumulators of capital gonna have to pay out now, awwww!

Nuclear Cloud Covering Congress

Too bad you can not $mell radiation like that other familiar $mell coming from the place.

"Lobbyists step up efforts to reassure on nuclear energy" by Theo Emery and Donovan Slack, Globe Staff / March 17, 2011

WASHINGTON — The nuclear power industry has mounted a concerted lobbying push on Capitol Hill this week to reassure members of Congress who are concerned about the Japanese nuclear plant disaster and potential for a similar incident in the United States.

The effort is part of the industry’s response to a crisis that has spurred calls for a moratorium on nuclear power permits and raised questions about financial incentives the industry has secured during the quest for energy sources that do not contribute to global climate change.

There they go again, trotting out the global warming, I mean "climate change" lie.

The industry’s success at explaining the technical issues and addressing concerns of elected officials and the American public could prove pivotal to the future of nuclear power, which is beginning to enjoy renewed support more than three decades after the Three Mile Island accident essentially killed new plant construction in the United States.

The industry boosted its campaign donations and lobbying activities in recent years and has enjoyed greater influence in Washington, muscle that has been on display since last week’s earthquake and tsunami threw reactors on the Japanese coast into a state of emergency....

Since the weekend, the Nuclear Energy Institute, the industry’s trade organization, and its members have dispatched representatives to conduct large-scale briefings and have prepared fact sheets for lawmakers about safety threats in Japan.

Did the MENTION GE's s***ty design?

The group has been firing off e-mail updates, some countering the most foreboding elements of news coverage....

What foreboding coverage?

See: Media Minimizing Japan Meltdown

Why I Am Not Reading Today's Boston Globe

I'm now wondering why I bothered reading them today.

The effort has appeared to help the industry avoid sharp political shifts in Washington.

Yeah, as it turns out changing political control of the country means absolutely nothing.

It's why I rarely blog about politics now, and why I never read the articles anymore.

The Obama administration and most Republicans and Democrats in Congress have refrained from calling for a slowdown on permits. In Germany, Switzerland, and China, by contrast, officials have suspended new approvals.

In recent years, the industry’s representatives have been regular visitors to members of Congress and their staffs, as are lobbyists for other energy interests seeking to protect or win new profits as the nation debates its energy future....

I'm just wondering if you have HAD IT with the LIES in light of what happened in Japan, America?

How come the tax loot got poured into wars and Wall Street instead of solar and wind, huh?

Senator John F. Kerry, who proposed a climate change bill last year that contained incentives for nuclear power, said this week: “I don’t think we should be rushing to judgment’’ on nuclear power.

But it is okay to rush to judgment on 9/11, Iraq, and the rest.

What a pathetic and despicable excuse for a senator.

President Obama said Tuesday he is still confident in the safety of nuclear energy....

Hard to believe, but the guy disappoints me more each and every day.

I didn't know Bush was still serving as president.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu said during a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing yesterday that the administration is pushing forward with proposals for loan guarantees for construction of nuclear power plants.

US Representative Joe Barton, a Texas Republican who questioned Chu about the program, said incentives for nuclear power construction are important, to protect private investors....

Who have you NOT BAILED OUT, taxpaying Americans?

Isn't Barton the guy who apologized to BP?

What a Texas turd!

Barton, who sent staff to the institute’s briefings, said it’s a “myth’’ that the industry’s power can sway lawmakers.

“It’s more that we each come with certain preconceived philosophies and ideas, and the industry groups tend to reinforce what we already believe,’’ he said.

And ju$t how do they do that, Joe?

Come to think of it, what he said is EXACTLY what is WRONG with AmeriKan politics these days!!!

"Old fears resurface in Europe; Nuclear safety debate revived" by Angela Charlton, Associated Press / March 15, 2011

PARIS — Fears about nuclear safety that took a generation to overcome after the accidents at Chernobyl and Three Mile Island are resurfacing around the globe in the aftermath of the Japanese nuclear emergency. They are casting new doubt on a controversial energy source that has seen a resurgence in recent years amid worries over volatile oil prices and global warming....

Is BELIEVING the LIE worth the RISK, world?

Yet some analysts and officials say those fears are exaggerated, given the exceptional nature of Japan’s earthquake and ensuing tsunami. The Japanese disaster may slow the push for more nuclear plants but appears unlikely to stop it, given the world’s fast-growing energy needs.

Yes, I noticed that SOME FEARS are MINIMIZED while OTHERS are MAXIMIZED by the AGENDA-PUSHING GOVERNMENT and its MOUTHPIECE MEDIA!!

The governments of Russia, China, Poland, and even earthquake-prone Chile said they are sticking to their plans to build more reactors. Spain warned against hasty decisions.

And I'm left to draw the conclusion that all governments stink.

They CARE MORE ABOUT MONEYED INTERESTS than they do YOU, citizen of the world.

Japan’s nuclear plant explosions come as the US government looks to expand its nuclear energy industry by offering companies tens of billions in financial backing.

With YOUR MONEY, taxpayers of America!!!

See:  Obama's Mushroom Cloud of a Bailout

Administration officials said the United States would seek lessons from the Japanese crisis but said the events in Japan would not diminish the US commitment to nuclear power.

They NEVER LEARN!!

“It remains a part of the president’s overall energy plan,’’ White House spokesman Jay Carney said. “When we talk about reaching a clean energy standard, it is a vital part of that.’’

What do we do with the waste?

Elsewhere in Europe, people have become increasingly open to nuclear power as memories fade of the accident in Chernobyl, Ukraine — the world’s worst nuclear accident, 25 years ago next month. Eastern Europe sees nuclear energy as a way of gaining a measure of independence from Russia’s burgeoning gas and oil empire....

Yeah, we can't have the Russians prosper for any reason.

Better a radioactive cloud float over your house.

The Silver Lining In Japan's Nuclear Cloud

Well, sort of....

"Warning was issued in ’70s on GE-designed reactors" by Tom Zeller Jr., New York Times / March 16, 2011

NEW YORK — The warnings were stark and issued repeatedly as far back as 1972: If the cooling systems ever failed at a Mark 1 nuclear reactor, the primary containment vessel surrounding the reactor would probably burst as the fuel rods inside overheated. Dangerous radiation would spew into the environment.

Now, with one Mark 1 containment vessel damaged at the embattled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant and other vessels there under severe strain, the weaknesses of the design — developed in the 1960s by General Electric — could be contributing to the unfolding catastrophe in Japan....

Oh, I'm seeing LAWSUITS in that CLOUD, folks!!!!

In the United States, 23 reactors at 16 locations use the Mark 1 design, including Pilgrim 1 in Plymouth, Mass.; Vermont Yankee in Vernon, Vt., and the Oyster Creek plant in central New Jersey.

My jaw just dropped because that place is 20 miles upriver!!!

GE began making the Mark 1 boiling-water reactors in the 1960s, marketing them as cheaper and easier to build — in part because they used a comparatively smaller and less expensive containment structure.
Yup, ju$t like BP cutting corner$ in the Gulf!

You $EE what is IMPORTANT to these people, right?

US regulators began identifying weaknesses very early on....

And HERE WE ARE 40 YEARS LATER!!!

"Vermont Yankee license on hold; NRC says delay result of agency’s staff shortage" by Beth Daley, Globe Staff / March 16, 2011

Vermont Yankee, in Vernon near the Massachusetts border, has suffered a series of problems in recent years that have frayed the public trust, including the collapse of a cooling tower and leaks of tritium into groundwater from underground pipes that company officials initially said were not there....

That went INTO the SOIL and CONNECTICUT RIVER, folks!!!

Related: Around New England: No Veracity in Vermont

Around New England: Vermont Votes Yankee Down

The Boston Globe Can Not Say a Lie

But they sure can tell 'em!

Yesterday, Vermont Yankee spokesman Larry Smith said it was his understanding the delay was merely a temporary one and the license would be issued soon.

The timing of the Japanese crisis couldn’t be worse for the nuclear industry, as it attempts a broad rebirth as a green energy source to combat global warming; the reactors do not emit greenhouse gases that cause the atmosphere to warm.

After the last few winters we have been through (and one year with no summer, just rain)?

But don't let that stop the pro-nuclear, agenda-pushing paper and its promotion of poison:

Vermont Yankee provides roughly one-third of the Green Mountain State’s electricity, for the most part inexpensively.

Yeah, the CANCER-CAUSING CHEMICALS in the soil and water are WORTH IT -- especially when the cancer won't show up for years and can be disputed in the courts for years after.

That low cost, and the more than 600 jobs the plant provides, has won it some support in the state.

Yup, $ome $upport it, sigh.

Still, antinuclear sentiment, always an undercurrent in this liberal state because of the dangers of radioactive releases and waste, grew stronger in 2006 after the plant received NRC permission to increase its power output by 20 percent.

The Globe always saves the best for last!

Why I Am Not Reading Today's Boston Globe

DEVASTATION IN JAPAN

Workers at Japan reactors leave as radiation spikes
Japan suspended operations to prevent a stricken nuclear plant from melting down today after a surge in radiation made it too dangerous for workers to remain at the facility. (By Eric Talmadge and Shino Yuasa, Associated Press)
Local radiation specialists say that while the health and environmental impact of the escalating crisis in Japan is uncertain, one thing seems clear: The situation is dramatically different than the Chernobyl reactor explosion 25 years ago. (By Carolyn Y. Johnson, Globe Staff)

Upon the turn in the headline reads "No-Chenobyl-like crisis, some say"

Some say?

Well, SOME SAY JUST ABOUT ANYTHING in this world! I SAY this is WORSE, and the AmeriKan media's minimization of the nuclear radiation dangers is proving my point.

General rule regarding AmeriKan media: The OPPOSITE of what they promote is CLOSER to the TRUTH!

UPDATE: TV News crews in Japan on the move with radiation fears mounting‎

Maybe NOW they will start TELLING the TRUTH, huh?

FLIP:

Rather than propose loan guarantees how about giving us some of our own tax dollars for infrastructure rather then spending it on wars, Wall Street and Israel, senator?

As for the border fence I was told by my government paper that idea was shelved. Interestingly, I heard on the radio that AmeriKan drones have been overflying Mexico for the last month. Nothing in my paper about that.

And Patraeus has changed his tune and now says we are winning. This after NATO has spent the last month murdering civilians and rounding up people and tossing them in jails to be sorted through. Karzai criticized them and in a "botched" raid his cousin was subsequently killed.

As for the rest, who really gives a shit?

Continuing as if I intended to read the paper today:

World
Khadafy is holding on because Israel wants him kept in power, folks. Thus we get a lot of AmeriKan and globalist bluster about no-fly zones and such; however, no help has come the Libyan rebels way and that is the clearest indication that the West has abandoned them (as they have abandoned all freedom-loving people).  They need not have an active role in an overthrow or rebellion; sometimes withholding support is enough.

Of course, Saudi Arabia has occupied Bahrain but that's all right because a U.S. ally is suppressing protests for freedom. The fact that the divisive, war-promoting AmeriKan media makes it an issue between Shi'ites and Sunni (as the also falsely portray the Wisconsin protests as Democrat vs. Republican when it's the people against the bank-serving states) causes me to disregard any of their reporting now.

That brings me to the obvious war propaganda put out by Israel regarding weapons to Palestine. I've come to learn that everything out of Israel's mouth is a lie.

And even if it were true, what, the Palestinians do NOT HAVE a RIGHT TO DEFEND THEMSELVES against ISRAEL'S NEVER-ENDING ATROCITIES and ASSAULTS?
I no longer read any of that rubbish, readers. The newspaper is already full of agenda-pushing editorials and selected opinion.

Turning to the section I rarely crack open anymore

Oh, I LOVE the FED GUY CHANGING his TUNE in light of the JAPANESE ECONOMY'S MELTDOWN because of the NUCLEAR CRISIS!!!  If you ever doubted what liars they are, doubt no more. Undoubtedly Bernanke is revving up that printing press to buy all the U.S. bonds Japan is dumping and which they will no longer be purchasing.  And UP will go PRICES AGAIN, American!

Of course, it will be the earthquake's fault, the tsunamis fault, the Japanese's fault, the Arabs fault, anybody's fault but the money-changers of Wall Street and the private banking cartel called the Fed that has so f***ed things up.

And now the final section of my daily ritual -- and the place where the Boston Globe is heading because of this slop:

Obituaries

I wonder if they will write their own (as they are writing their own, readers.  If they have lost me....?).

If it is all the same to you, dear readers, I would like to take the remaining few minutes before I have to head off to work to take care of some long-neglected personal obligations. Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
