See: Around New England: You Can't Clean Up Vermont
And the United States government doesn't help matters by dumping this s*** just over the border.
"US says nuclear plant owners did not lie
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission said it is satisfied that Vermont Yankee officials were truthful in their dealings with federal regulators. Vermont Yankee’s owners came under fire earlier this year after disclosure that they had provided misleading testimony to state regulators about the presence of underground piping at the nuclear power plant in Vernon.
Yeah, THEY SAID it DID NOT EVEN EXIST!
After that, federal regulators asked owner Entergy Nuclear Operations to verify that it had been truthful in its dealings with the federal agency. In a letter sent yesterday, NRC regional administrator Samuel Collins said the NRC is now satisfied that the company gave complete and accurate information about NRC-regulated activities at the plant (AP)."
And because government believes it and says it, well, it must be true!
This is AmeriKa, after all!!!
So what other PR can the paper run for the industry?
"Report details efforts to prevent isotope from reaching Vt. water supplies" by John Curran, Associated Press | June 23, 2010
VERNON, Vt. — After pumping out 130,000 gallons of contaminated groundwater, removing 240 cubic feet of tainted soil, and spending about $10 million responding to a leak of radioactive tritium, Vermont Yankee officials said yesterday it will be at least three months before the cleanup is complete.
Yeah, that makes me feel real good about what is upriver twenty miles.
But they say that there is no evidence the isotope made it into drinking water supplies and that samples of water from the neighboring
So says the LIARS!
I mean MISLEADERS, sorry!
As if there were a difference.
If it ain't the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, then it ain't the truth, is it?
In a meeting held at the plant yesterday, representatives of the troubled nuclear power plant and corporate parent
It blamed....
The report by Vermont Yankee, which was to be delivered to state regulators yesterday, also pointed the finger at the plant’s own management for not fully implementing groundwater protection measures recommended by the nuclear industry, which it said might’ve prevented or identified the tritium leak quicker.
Why did the letters B and P just flash through my mind?
Tritium, which occurs naturally but is also a product of nuclear fission, has been linked to cancer if ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin in large amounts....
The tritium leak has not been the only recent problem.
Last month, plant officials revealed that while cleaning up tritium, they found evidence of a more potent radioactive isotope, strontium-90, in soil near where the leak occurred. Strontium-90 has been linked to cancer....
But JUST BELIEVE the GOVERNMENT and INDUSTRY, Americans!
I'm sure EVERYTHING is SAFE and FINE now.
GO BACK to SLEEP!!
--more--"
Maybe it is time to SHUT the thing DOWN, huh?
"Yankee nuclear plant repairs 2 new cracks
Officials at the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant say two new cracks have been found and repaired in a tower that cools water from the plant.
Anybody around here remember the China Syndrome?
The cracks, found June 17, were not not publicly reported by the plant.
But TRU$T THEM, TRU$T THEM and their report!
The water is not radioactive.
Says who?
The Rutland Herald said the existence of the cracks came to light Tuesday in a meeting held by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. A plant spokesman said the problem did not meet the plant’s threshold for public disclosure (AP)."
I guess the CELSIUM that a Rutland Herald reader wrote a letter about wasn't required to be disclosed either because the Globe never did.
Maybe you will find out about it at school, kiddo:
"College to use $1m gift for scholarships
Lyndon State College says that a $1 million gift from an outdoor clothing manufacturer will be used to help fund a scholarship program to benefit young people from the state’s Northeast Kingdom. The gift from Carhartt Inc., of Michigan will help expand Lyndon’s Promise Scholarship Program and provide more scholarships for low-income Vermonters who will be among the first in their families to graduate from college. Carhartt president Mark Valade is a 1978 graduate of Lyndon State (AP)."
Blue State of Vermont one of just a few trying tax cuts
Maybe they are finally catching on up there.
