Around New England: Tip of the Hat in Rhode Island

Be sure to salute, AmeriKans.

"School bans hat over armed toy soliders(sic); Officials say cap violated weapons policy" by Michelle R. Smith, Associated Press | June 18, 2010

PROVIDENCE — Christan Morales said her son just wanted to honor American troops when he wore a hat to school decorated with an American flag and small plastic Army figures.

But the school banned the hat because it ran afoul of the district’s zero-tolerance weapons policy. Why? The toy soldiers were carrying tiny guns....

Yeah, never mind the mass-murdering real ones based on lies that the kid will end up fighting when he's older.

Morales’s son, David, 8, had been assigned to make a hat for the day when his second-grade class would meet their pen pals from another school. She and her son came up with an idea to add patriotic decorations to a camouflage hat.

Earlier this week, after the hat was banned, the principal at the Tiogue School in Coventry told the family that the hat would be fine if David replaced the Army men holding weapons with ones that did not have any, according to Superintendent Kenneth R. Di Pietro.

Yes, dear students, WAR is NOT REAL, 'kay?

But, Morales said, the family had only one Army figure without a weapon (he was carrying binoculars), so David wore a plain baseball cap on the day of the pen pal meeting....

What is really strange is if you where a cap with a pile of dig shit on the bill it's okay.

The district does not allow images of weapons or drugs on clothing. For example, a student would not be permitted to wear a shirt with a picture of a marijuana leaf on it, the superintendent said....

But the aforementioned hat? Okay!

Morales said her son was inspired to honor the military after striking up a friendship last summer with a neighbor in the Army.

Banning the hat “sent the wrong message to the kids, because it wasn’t in any way to cause any harm to anyone,’’ she said. “You’re talking about Army men. This wasn’t about guns.’’

No?

It was about the ARMY, right?

I think I'll take my hat off.

"RI school to reverse ban on boy's toy soldier hat

COVENTRY, R.I. --The superintendent of a Rhode Island school district that banned a second-grader's homemade hat because it displayed toy soldiers with tiny guns said Saturday he will work to change the policy to allow such apparel.

It is amazing how some things demand such action in AmeriKa, sig heil.

Coventry schools superintendent Ken Di Pietro said in an e-mail to The Associated Press that the no-weapons policy shouldn't limit student expression, especially when students are depicting "tools of a profession or service," such as the military or police.

And there goes America's last hope against tyranny and empire: the "educators."

"The event exposed how a policy meant to ensure safe environments for students can become restrictive and can present an image counter to the work of our schools to promote patriotism and democracy," Di Pietro said.

I'm so glad school is so far in the past. I didn't like it then, and I would hate it now.

I feel sorry for today's kids. Not only do their schools suck, but their whole society is s***.

David Morales, an 8-year-old student at Tiogue School, made the hat after choosing a patriotic theme for a school project last week. He glued plastic Army figures to a camouflage baseball cap. But school officials banned the hat, saying the guns carried by the Army figures violated school policy.

So he can play with them in the dirt outside but can't put 'em on a cap?

The decision prompted criticism of the school and support for Morales....

That is where my printed paper brief ended it.

On Friday, the boy received a medal from Lt. Gen. Reginald Centracchio, the retired head of the Rhode Island National Guard. Centracchio said Morales should be thanked for recognizing veterans and soldiers.

"You did nothing wrong, and you did an outstanding job," Centracchio told the boy.

Di Pietro said Centracchio met with school officials and asked them to change the policy, and Di Pietro agreed to work with the school committee on a revision. Di Pietro said the incident obscured the district's strong support for the military.

And you guys have the nerve to say you care about the kids.

I am beginning to think all "public servants" only care about serving themselves and keeping their po$ition.

He noted that Coventry schools sponsor one of only two Air Force Junior ROTC programs in the state.

If they were Taliban the paper would claim they are training children to be terrorists.

"Coventry Public Schools has a long history of support for the military and for instilling patriotism in students," he said.

Yup, it is a SYSTEM of INDOCTRINATING and INCULCATING BRAINWASHING, America
-- which is why I often refer to it as EJERKASHUN!

And look what fell out of the cap when I took it off my head

"Hearing set on marijuana store requests

The public can speak for or against the 15 applications for Rhode Island’s first stores selling medical marijuana. A hearing on the proposed centers is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Department of Health. Department spokeswoman Annemarie Beardsworth says it’s an opportunity for people to weigh in on the applicants. She says it’s not meant as a forum to air views on medical marijuana. Medical marijuana is legal under state law, and lawmakers last year approved a plan to allow up to three stores to sell it to registered patients (AP)."

"Two plead guilty after large heroin seizure

Two men arrested in Cranston, R.I., after police found them in possession of nearly 500 grams of heroin pleaded guilty yesterday to drug charges in federal court, the US attorney’s office said. Dimitrit Vallejo Lara of Miami and Simon Suazo of Boston were arrested in December. Both pleaded guilty yesterday in US District Court in Providence to two counts of possession of more than 100 grams of heroin with the intent to distribute. Both defendants face up to 40 years imprisonment and a maximum fine of $2 million on each charge."

I'll just say no, thanks.

"R.I. health officials order practice to stop using intrauterine devices" by Stephen Smith, Globe Staff | June 24, 2010

Rhode Island health regulators ordered a gynecologic practice yesterday to stop using birth-control devices not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. That practice, OB-GYN Associates Inc., has two satellite offices in Southeastern Massachusetts, in North Attleborough and Swansea.

After becoming aware of Rhode Island’s action, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health launched a separate investigation. That agency’s spokeswoman, Jennifer Manley, said investigators are trying to determine whether the intrauterine devices, known in medical shorthand as IUDs, were also given to women in the Massachusetts clinics.

In a statement, Rhode Island’s health director, Dr. David R. Gifford, said his agency was concerned about the effectiveness of the IUDs, not about their safety. Because the IUDs have not undergone FDA evaluation, Rhode Island health authorities said, there is no guarantee they will prevent pregnancies....

Oooops, looks like you have a baby baking in the belly, ladies!

I love life!

Maybe the unexpected bundle of joy can take the place of that poor brainwashed kid on his way to death in war.
