Hey, who do you think is going to pay for the clean-up and bail out the U.S. government and its red ink?
"Obama vows to keep pushing for broad climate legislation; Hopes lawmakers reach agreement on a sweeping bill" by Julie Pace, Associated Press | July 28, 2010
WASHINGTON — Despite setbacks on Capitol Hill, President Obama said yesterday he still supports the need for broad climate legislation and pledged to keep pushing for it.
So when are you going to push for something we want, a**hole?
The White House expressed fresh hope the Senate and House might strike a deal on a sweeping energy plan this year.
Pfffft!
Lacking the votes they need in this election year, Senate Democrats have abandoned Obama’s goal of a bill that would cap the greenhouse gases blamed for global warming....
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs later went further, disputing the notion that a climate bill is dead for the year. He suggested that such a comprehensive bill could be negotiated between House and Senate members once, as the White House hopes, the Senate approves a scaled-back energy bill in the coming days.
Such a bill would then have to be approved by both chambers....
It remains unclear how Democrats could muster the votes in the Senate to get even a version of that bill approved.
Yeah, THAT'S WHAT I WAS WONDERING.
This article is just FULL of FILLER, isn't it?
Republicans slammed the House bill as a “national energy tax’’ and jobs killer, arguing that the costs would be passed on to consumers in the form of higher electricity bills and fuel costs that would lead manufacturers to take their factories overseas.
They are ALREADY DOING THAT!
The effort to pass a comprehensive bill in the Senate has been led by senators John F. Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat, and Joseph Lieberman, a Connecticut independent.
Senate majority leader Harry Reid has said no Republican senators were willing to vote for the broader energy bill he wanted, leaving Democrats shy of the 60 votes needed to overcome GOP delaying tactics....
Then end-run around it like you did on the health tax.
The more you think of it the more you realize the filibuster is only there as an excuse for inaction.
I think even Democrats know this issue is a sure loser for them and would guarantee a change in leadership of Congress.

So when are you going to confess, MSM?
Of course, that wouldn't mean the fart-misters would go away:
"Coalition outlines cap-and-trade strategy; 7 Western states, 3 provinces aim to curb emissions" by Jeff Barnard, Associated Press | July 28, 2010
GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A coalition of seven Western states and three Canadian provinces yesterday offered its most detailed strategy yet for controlling greenhouse gas emissions blamed for climate change, saying they hope it will stand as a model for national systems in the United States and Canada.
At the core of the Western Climate Initiative is a cap-and-trade system that would go into effect in January 2012....
Good thing the world is coming to an end on Dec. 21, 2012 then.
California, New Mexico, and three provinces — Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbia — account for 70 percent of the emissions produced by the signers of the strategy, creating enough liquidity to get the cap-and-trade system up and running, said Robert Noel de Tilly, climate change adviser for Quebec’s Ministry for Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks....
Yeah, this isn't about global warming or saving the planet; this is all about YOU-KNOW-WHAT, reader$!
Robert Stavins, professor of business and government at Harvard University and director of the Harvard Environmental Economics Program, said he did not anticipate Congress taking action this year, and he was skeptical anything could be achieved in the next two years if Republicans gain seats in the House and Senate.
Oh, and THEY WILL even if they do not take control!
Democrats had their chances! I helped elect them in 2006 and will help turn them out in 2010.
GET the MESSAGE yet?
Republicans have strongly opposed creating a cap-and-trade system for carbon....
Which is WHY I am a REPUBLICAN!
One of the SLIM DIFFERENCES between the two factions of the war party.
Not all of the states in the climate group are enthusiastic....
You are kidding, right?
Who could be opposed to saving the planet and making bankers, traders, and Al Gore rich?
--more--"
I'll bet Californians are glad his terms are up!
And it looks like Washington won't have to worry about carbon taxes for the next few days:
"Outages linger, toll mounts from D.C. storm; 4 dead amid chaos wrought by high winds" by Jessica Gresko, Associated Press | July 27, 2010
WASHINGTON — It could take days to restore power to hundreds of thousands of people in and around Washington after a storm on Sunday downed power lines and trees and left four people dead, officials said yesterday.
The storm brought cooler weather to the central Atlantic region, which has been through a nearly two-week heat wave, but also left widespread damage in Washington and its suburbs. Power outages resulting from the storm affected more than 430,000 customers....
Because the damage was so widespread, it was unclear when most people would get their power back, Pepco spokesman Bob Hainey said....
“This is going to be a multiple-day event,’’ Hainey said.
Other electric companies in the region predicted power would be mostly restored by tonight.
Three deaths in Maryland were blamed on the storm. Officials say Warren Douglas Smith, 63, was using a personal watercraft on the Chesapeake Bay and died after encountering severe winds and choppy seas while trying to get back to land. In Beltsville, Md., a tree crushed a minivan, killing 44-year-old driver Michelle Humanick and injuring her passenger, a woman in her 60s. A 6-year-old boy also died after a large section of a tree fell on him while he was walking with his family.
In Pennsylvania, police say a 53-year-old woman was apparently electrocuted by a fallen power line in her backyard.
Even as cleanup was going on, the power outages were causing disruptions. Numerous traffic signals were out throughout the region, including some along major routes....
The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission said the storm also cut off power at its filtration plant that provides water for nearly 2 million people in suburban Maryland. Although power was restored yesterday, mandatory restrictions on water use were still in place....
In Iowa and Illinois yesterday, residents were surveying the damage from severe flooding after unrelenting rainfall last week.
About 8,000 people were affected by the record rise of the Maquoketa River in Iowa, a tributary of the Mississippi River. A 83-year-old dam on Lake Delhi in Iowa burst Saturday, damaging scores of homes and business but causing no serious injuries.--more--"
