"Cambridge tries to heal from Marathon horror; City unnerved by link to bombing suspects" by Meghan E. Irons | Globe Staff, May 13, 2013
CAMBRIDGE — The bombings have felt like a personal afront in this city, which prides itself on its openness and welcoming attitude....
Larry Aaronson, a longtime Cambridge Rindge and Latin teacher who knew Dzhokhar and who lives three doors down from where the brothers lived on Norfolk Street, knew he was a wrestler with a heart of gold. They had talked about Chechnya and Dzhokhar’s gratitude that he had found sanctuary, friendship, and a beloved school in Cambridge.
“This is what we are so proud of in this city — that we give him sanctuary. How dare he?’’ said Aaronson. “I knew this child, and I thought I knew him well. But then he wreaked such havoc and such destruction on the most beautiful event.”
It was too much for Aaronson, who also knew victims of the attacks. He said he suffered a nervous breakdown, [but] has been able to free himself from depression after seeking therapy and being embraced by friends in the Cambridge community.
To be sure, Cambridge is not immune to tragedy. Just last year, the city recoiled in horror after 16-year-old Charlene Holmes was killed in June 2012 in an apparent drive-by shooting on Willow Street. And many residents still recall the 1997 slaying of 10-year-old Jeffrey Curley of Cambridge....
But this is different, residents here say.
“This is a game changer,’’ said City Councilor Craig Kelley. “This is a world view-shifting event, and I think we are all struggling in a place that is inclusive, that is loving and supportive, and everything that Cambridge is. We are all struggling to figure out what the heck all this means to us and our civic identity.”
Nancy Rappaport, a Cambridge child psychiatrist who works with school and traumatized children, said Cambridge is experiencing a form of guilt by association because both suspects and victims live in the same city.
“Whenever a community is close to an alleged criminal, it is understandable that there are feelings of guilt, shame, and anger,’’ said Rappaport, speaking generally. “The tyranny of hindsight can occur where the community asks, ‘How could we have not known?’ Even when a community has all the resources, sometimes bad things happen.”
City, school, and faith officials have been holding vigils, school assemblies, and prayer services....
Still, many here say, the road forward will be long and difficult. As a spring sun glistened on Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, Mary Thornton said she is still troubled.
“It can happen any place, but when it happens in your backyard it is frightening,’’ said Thornton, a resident of 40 years. “When you think of all the victims who died or who lost their limbs, you just can’t wrap your head around it.”

"Slain bombing suspect knew Watertown terrain well" by Michael Rezendes and Bob Hohler | Globe Staff, May 13, 2013
WATERTOWN — Tamerlan Tsarnaev was a freewheeling Muslim who danced to hip-hop music, smoked marijuana, and always kept a prayer rug in the trunk of his car....
Sebastian A. Freddura, a hip-hop performer and onetime Cambridge neighbor who was one of Tamerlan’s oldest friends in America. “We’d smoke a jay and he’d come out and pray.”
You are kidding, right? That's not going to go over too good with the clerics, and really blows smoke in the face of the cover story.
In an interview with the Globe, Freddura provided new information that may help explain the final, bizarre two hours of Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s life....
We don't need any more "explanations" from the AmeriKan media.

"Saudi man traveling with pressure cooker arrested" Associated Press, May 14, 2013
DETROIT — A Saudi man was arrested at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after federal agents said he lied about why he was traveling with a pressure cooker, but his nephew said Monday that it was all a misunderstanding about a device he simply wanted for cooking.
Two pressure cookers were used in last month’s Boston Marathon bombings.
Hussain Al Khawahir was being held in Detroit on allegations of lying to Customs and Border Protection agents and of using a passport with a missing page. He was arrested Saturday.
His nephew, Nasser Almarzooq, said he had asked his uncle to bring him the pressure cooker so he could make lamb.
As long as it isn't from China.
The college student said two pressure cookers he bought in the United States were ‘‘not good at all,’’ and said the ones available in Saudi Arabia are higher quality. ‘‘I’m Arabic,’’ said Almarzooq . ‘‘I always use pressure cookers to cook.’’
Everything we make stinks.
A criminal complaint alleges that Al Khawahir arrived at the airport Saturday on a flight from Saudi Arabia via Amsterdam and that he told agents he was visiting his nephew. He originally said he brought the pressure cooker with him because pressure cookers aren’t sold in America, then later said his nephew had bought one but it ‘‘was cheap’’ and broke after one use, according to the complaint....

"Just before he was captured last month, Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev scrawled a note inside the boat where he was hiding that seemed to take responsibility for his role in the tragedy, according to two law enforcement officials with knowledge of the note. After police forced him out of a Watertown resident’s boat, they found the message in which he praised Allah and said he would be joining his dead brother, Tamerlan, soon, according to one of the officials. “They found a note that took responsibility,” the official said, but did not provide more details. Still, the official said, the note could help the prosecution prove the suspect’s alleged role in the bombing."
