"Man fatally shot on Roxbury street" by Gal Tziperman Lotan | Globe Correspondent, April 20, 2013
A man who was shot in the neck on Copeland Street in Roxbury early Saturday died from his wounds, according to Boston Police.
Police have not released the name or age of the victim and had not made an arrest in the shooting as of Saturday evening, according to a department spokeswoman.
A resident of Copeland Street said she heard about a dozen gunshots around 1:30 a.m., followed by the sound of a car speeding away, then a woman yelling, “Somebody help me, somebody help me.”
Pelaiah Israel said she thought the cries sounded like her mother, but when she looked outside, she saw an unfamiliar woman stepping out of a sedan, hovering over a man who looked gravely injured.
“The woman was in the street, screaming,” she said. “There was a guy laying down, covered in blood.”
Police cruisers appeared right away, Israel said.
“The police responded immediately, they were here in less than a minute,” she said.
Israel said she ran up the street, afraid the victim was someone she knew, but she did not recognize him.
Israel said her family has owned a home on Copeland Street for about 65 years and she knows her neighbors — many of whom are older and whose children have moved out.
“A lot of things that happen on this street are not from people who live on this street,” she said....
