Slow Saturday Special: Throwing the Globe Out With the Bathwater

I'm getting there because I am simply no longer reading much of it:

"Aspiring nun charged in her baby’s death in D.C." Associated Press, October 19, 2013

WASHINGTON — A woman studying to become a Catholic nun has been charged in the District of Columbia with smothering her newborn son, police said.

The woman, 26-year-old Sosefina Amoa, gave birth to the boy Oct. 10 in her room at the Little Sisters of the Poor elderly care facility, police said. Afraid the nuns would hear the newborn’s cries and discover she lied about sexual activity, police say Amoa told investigators she smothered him by placing a wool garment over the child’s mouth and nose and applying pressure.

The nuns never questioned the morning sickness or weight gain?

As for the other part, I think she is disqualified from being a nun now.

A day later she and a nun took his body, in a small black luggage bag, to a hospital, police said.

Amoa was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder after the death was ruled a homicide by asphyxiation.

The order said in a statement that they are praying for everyone involved.

"N.Y. teen found with fetus at store" Associated Press, October 19, 2013

NEW YORK — Police say a dead baby found in a teenage girl’s shopping bag at a New York lingerie store was born alive and then asphyxiated.

Police disclosed the findings Friday. The city medical examiner’s office said an autopsy was inconclusive and more tests are needed.

Police believe 17-year-old Tiana Rodriguez gave birth to the baby at a friend’s house and that the infant was later asphyxiated.

The remains were discovered Thursday when a security guard stopped Rodriguez and her friend Francis Estevez at a Victoria’s Secret store.

Both girls were arrested on petit larceny charges. Rodriguez may face more serious charges. It was unclear whether either girl has a lawyer.

They were robbing the store with a dead baby in her bag? Just begging to get caught, huh?

Another form of baby-killing:

"Former Kansas AG’s law license suspended" by John Milburn |  Associated Press, October 19, 2013

TOPEKA, Kan. — The Kansas Supreme Court indefinitely suspended the law license of former state attorney general Phill Kline on Friday, following allegations of ethical misconduct during his investigation of abortion providers.

The court agreed with a state disciplinary panel that Kline misled or allowed subordinates to mislead others, including a grand jury, to further his investigations.

The guy is in trouble for doing that upon which the whole government is predicated?

Tom Condit, Kline’s lawyer, said Friday that Kline reasserted that he never intentionally lied or misled others in pursuit of his case. He and Kline were reviewing the ruling and considering their next steps.

In 2007, Kline filed 107 criminal charges against a Planned Parenthood clinic in the Kansas City suburbs, accusing it of performing illegal abortions and falsifying records. The last of those charges was dropped in August 2012. He also pursued misdemeanor criminal charges against Dr. George Tiller because of late-term abortions performed at his Wichita clinic. The case was dismissed for jurisdictional reasons.

Kline began the investigations of both providers just months into his 2003-2007 term as attorney general.

Justices said Kline committed significant and numerous violations as an attorney while pursuing prosecutions in Johnson County.
