Globe Plumbs the Depths With John Kerry

Not only is it offensive for agenda-pushing spew and omissions, it's also a pimping promotion piece for a guy who has done more global warming globe-trotting than anyone on the face of the planet.

"Kerry to host talks to discuss state of oceans" by Matt Viser | Globe Staff   April 21, 2014

WASHINGTON – Secretary of State John Kerry, who has attempted to revive Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and tried to prevent a Russian invasion of Ukraine, on Monday also announced a major conference aimed at improving the health of the world’s oceans.

Maybe the U.S. military could stop polluting them first?

The conference, which will be held June 16-17 at the State Department, will include foreign ministers from around the world to discuss pollution, fishing policies, and the impact that climate change is having on the oceans.

How are those ministers getting here, and how big is that carbon footprint going to be?

It marks yet another major topic that Kerry is adding to his portfolio, this one a subject that has long been a personal passion but also the source of political frustration. Kerry in recent months has taken an increasingly urgent and at times combative tone while discussing climate change.

The first thing the hypocrite could do is stop spewing hot air!

Kerry announced the conference in an online video, citing the powerful connection he formed with the ocean while growing up in Massachusetts.

He docked the yacht where to avoid taxes?

“The ocean fuels our trade, it provides much of the food we eat, the air we breathe . . . but today, this incredible resource is threatened,” said Kerry, whose ancestors were sea merchants and whose father was a recreational fisherman and sailor who several times sailed across the Atlantic. “It’s threatened by unsustainable fishing, by pollution, by climate change. Indeed, how we respond to these challenges is literally going to help determine the future of our planet.”

I'm not surprised he did not mention Fukushima or the Gulf oil leak.

The conference will include 400 senior policy makers, researchers, and scientists from about 90 countries, according to the State Department. Senior department officials said this will be the first time a secretary of state has hosted an oceans conference of this magnitude.

The theme of the conference is “Our Ocean,” and the goal is to create not just a discussion but to encourage individuals and governments to take more action. Individuals, for example, will be asked to sign pledges to know where the fish they eat came from, while governments may join together to create marine protected areas.

I will reel that catch in below, and it is looking like a water grab as well as a land grab by this globalist government (nothing on the Bundy ranch again today).

Kerry had discussed with his staff hosting a similar conference while he was chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. After taking over as secretary of state, he raised the issue again.

Initially he wanted to have the conference last June, but his staff told him that was too soon after he began his new duties in early 2013. A second target date of October was canceled when the federal government shut down due to a congressional budget impasse.

Aides say Kerry himself has been involved in putting together the agenda, asking key specialists to attend and pushing his staff to nail down dates.

Nodded off there for a moment.

Kerry has long prided himself on environmental activism, but much of his first year as secretary of state was dominated by conflict in the Middle East. He was at the center of how to respond to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons. He also tried to engineer talks between the Israelis and Palestinians, an effort that has come close to collapsing in recent weeks.

On the environmental front, Kerry’s legacy as secretary of state may be more strongly shaped by his role in recommending whether the Obama administration should approve the Keystone XL pipeline, a project that would transport tar sands oil from Canada to Gulf of Mexico refineries.

Environmentalists oppose the project. The State Department last week indefinitely delayed its review of the project while the Nebraska Supreme Court decides a case that could affect its path. The delay could mean Kerry won’t make a recommendation until after the 2014 congressional elections.

Not fooling anyone though.

Kerry was a member of a US delegation at Rio de Janeiro in 1992, the first major meeting on international climate change, and he has been to most global conferences on the topic since. He met his future wife, Teresa, at an Earth Day rally. In 2007, Kerry and his wife wrote a book together called “This Moment on Earth: Today’s New Environmentalists and Their Vision for the Future.”

I'm envisioning a reporter dropping to his knees, unzipping fly, ....

In 2009, he crafted the Senate’s most ambitious response to threats of climate change, legislation that would have established a cap-and-trade system on US emissions of greenhouse gases. The legislation failed, which Kerry told the Globe last year was one of the biggest regrets of his Senate career.

Like most of what he has done in his career, sorry to say.

“Probably the finest piece of legislation I did didn’t get enacted into law yet,” Kerry said just before he became secretary of state.

Yet?

In that role, Kerry has emphasized climate change and has often spoken about its impacts.

Did he do this on the plane rides?

His language in recent months has become more pointed. During a speech in Indonesia in February, he said those who question climate change are “perhaps the world’s most fearsome weapon of mass destruction.”

That made me mad that morning.

“We should not allow a tiny minority of shoddy scientists and science and extreme ideologues to compete with scientific facts,” Kerry said. “Nor should we allow any room for those who think that the costs associated with doing the right thing outweigh the benefits.”

And down the runway speeds his jet.

Tiny and extreme ideologues are allowed to drive our foreign and domestic policy, so WTF?

Kerry has also spoken about oceans being degraded by pollution, overfishing, and greenhouse gas emissions.

And 300 tons of radioactive water being dumped into the Pacific every day, right?

“The good news is we know exactly what is threatening our oceans, and we have a very good understanding of what we need to do in order to deal with these threats,” he told participants in a climate conference in February. But, he added, “We don’t yet have the political consensus or the urgency translated into political action.”

And your fart-spewing conference isn't going to do it.

"Illegally caught fish a big part of US imports" by Darryl Fears | Washington Post   April 21, 2014

WASHINGTON — That seafood on your dinner plate is starting to look a little fishy.

A new study that examined illegal and unreported marine harvests brought to the United States from around the globe says it maybe shouldn’t be there at all. Up to 32 percent of imported wild shrimp, crab, salmon, pollock, tuna, and other catch was poached.

Illegal fishing is a major concern of scientists because the world’s oceans can barely sustain legal seafood harvests. Eighty-five percent of the world’s commercial seafood grounds ‘‘are fished up to their biological limits or beyond,’’ the study said.

So stop eating, you useless eaters, you!

Earlier studies have shown that illegal and underreported fishing comprises up to 31 percent of the world’s catch, but this study is the first to examine how much of it slips through the better-inspected ports of the United States.

‘‘That was really a surprise to us,’’ said Tony Pitcher, a professor of fisheries at the University of British Columbia who helped author the study, ‘‘Estimates of illegal and unreported fish in seafood imports to the USA,’’ published this month in the journal Marine Policy.

‘‘We thought a well-governed country like the US, with tighter controls, would be better,’’ Pitcher said. Inspectors in the United States, which imports 14 percent of the global total, are not required to ask for documentation that shows a bounty’s origin.

It's a surprise to me he would think our country is well-governed.

US inspectors are far more concerned with the freshness of seafood and its potential impact on human health.

Just ignore the mercury levels and elevated radiation.

****************

‘‘It’s quite clear that most consumers don’t have an idea what’s coming into the supply,’’ he said. Americans ate about 2 million tons of seafood in 2011, second only to China. They spent more than $85 billion on seafood products — much of it harvested within the country — in stores, restaurants, or elsewhere. Tuna, pollock, crab, and cod are America’s favorite wild-caught seafoods.

Smells bad to me.

But fishing vessels and seafood processors rely on a shell game to deliver illegal and unreported catches to US ports. Ships fish at different spots on the high seas, often for months at a time, using ‘‘transition vessels’’ to taxi their catches to market while they keep trolling for fish.

Going to have to change the name then.

Documenting where the fish were caught is lax, the study’s authors said. Many of the fish, crab, shrimp, and other products are rushed to Chinese processing plants, where low-paid workers fillet salmon, clean the guts of tuna, and pull meat from crabs. Illegally caught fish are easily mixed with legally caught fish at those plants.

***************

How the world’s fish are processed can boggle the mind.

I doubt it.

For example, prawns caught off Scotland are often sent to China for processing and are then shipped back to Scotland because low-wage processors are cheaper, Pitcher said.

Prices are about to go up.

Pollock caught in Russia is frozen there, shipped to China, where it is thawed and processed, then frozen again for the trip back to Russia or elsewhere in the world, including the United States.

That supply is going to be cut off soon given the actions of the AmeriKan government. And you thought you were hungry now, Americans?

Most wild-caught imports to the United States come from 10 countries: China, Thailand, Indonesia, Ecuador, Canada, Vietnam, the Philippines, India, Mexico, and Chile....

"Plan would keep beaches open; Health bureau floats an easing of bacteria rules" by Kay Lazar
 | Globe Staff   April 10, 2014

Sun-starvedbeachgoers could be able to spend more time taking a dip this summer under a proposal Wednesday from health regulators that aims to close beaches less often because of contamination fears.

Revised water testing rules propose that a beach not be closed unless water samples from two consecutive days show elevated levels of bacteria. The germs can pose a range of health risks, including gastrointestinal and respiratory illness.

Under the current system, beaches are closed after a single water sample is found to have high bacteria levels. In most cases, a follow-up sample the next day comes back clean.

That means many beaches are closed unnecessarily for a second day, said Suzanne Condon, director of the state’s Bureau of Environmental Health, which regulates beach testing.

I think I'll stay out of the water.

*****************

Condon told the state’s Public Health Council, an appointed body of academics and health advocates that sets public policy, [that] unnecessary beach closings hit surrounding businesses hard and create increased work for already-strained local health departments, which are responsible for collecting the samples. The state picks up the tab for local water analysis, through a grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency.

So JIGGER the MEASUREMENT, move the goal posts, and PROBLEM SOLVED by GOVERNMENT! And they wonder why we don't believe a f***ing word?

Some members of the Public Health Council expressed concern that relaxing beach closing requirements might leave swimmers vulnerable, while favoring local businesses.

“Our job is to protect the public, and this presentation sounds like, ‘Let’s make it easier for the businesses,’ ” said Harold Cox, an associate dean at Boston University’s School of Public Health.

Sifting through the sands and he found the truth of AmeriKan government!

But Condon said that EPA data collected before Massachusetts required beach testing in 2000 indicated that, even then, very few people were sickened by dirty water.

OMG!  Thought I say a Condom on beach, sorry!

Hope you are not one who is sickened this year.

“We have a short summer season in Massachusetts anyway,” Condon said, “and it’s not great closing a beach that doesn’t need to be closed.”

But it is getting longer because of global warming.

"S. Korean ferry pilot’s qualifications scrutinized" by Choe Sang-Hun and Su-Hyun Lee | New York Times   April 20, 2014

JINDO, South Korea — More than 260 missing, many of them believed to have been trapped inside the capsized vessel.

Questions about the qualifications of the 26-year-old third mate, Park Han-gyeol, mounted Saturday after investigators revealed that the ship’s captain, Lee Jun-seok, 69, was in his quarters, leaving Park in charge of the bridge....

For decades, the 3.7-mile-long, 2.8-mile-wide Maenggol Waterway has provided a shortcut for ships that try to save fuel or time navigating waters dotted with islets off the southwestern tip of the Korean Peninsula. But the channel also has a reputation for having one of the most rapid and unpredictable currents around the peninsula.

“It was her first time steering the ship through the Maenggol Waterway,” said Yang Joong-jin, a senior prosecutor who is part of the government’s investigation. “There is nothing legally wrong with that. But....”

Investigators said they are looking at whether the third mate ordered a turn that was so sharp that it caused the vessel to list.

Park ended up in command of the ship by chance.

**************

Park was unavailable for comment. She was arrested Saturday, along with the captain and a helmsman who was also on duty with Park. They could face criminal charges of abandoning their ship and passengers during a crisis, accidental homicide, or both.

The factors that led to Park’s being in charge while the ferry plied the Maenggol Waterway may provide another piece of the puzzle investigators are putting together.

Ever since the ship capsized Wednesday morning, investigators have worked to unravel the mysteries surrounding one of South Korea’s worst peacetime disasters, especially the question of why the ship suddenly tilted on a curve in the shipping lane.

On Saturday, navy divers struggled to enter the ship for a fourth straight day.

Many of the survivors have said a large number of passengers were probably trapped inside the overturned and sunken ship, partly because they had been advised by the ship’s crew to stay put even while the ship was tilting dangerously.

A horrifying end.

“The chances of anyone surviving in there depend on many factors, such as the water temperature and individual conditions,” said Ko Myong-seok, a senior coast guard officer involved in rescue operations.

But several days after the ship capsized, hopes have dwindled....

"Transcript reveals chaos, uncertainty during S. Korea ferry disaster; Leader calls actions of crew murderous" by Gillian Wong | Associated Press   April 21, 2014

JINDO, South Korea — The South Korean ferry that sank was crippled by confusion and indecision well after it began listing, a radio transcript released Sunday showed, suggesting the chaotic situation may have added to a death toll that could exceed 300....

Anguished families, fearful they might be left without even their loved ones’ bodies, vented rage Sunday over the government’s handling of the crisis.

About 100 relatives attempted a long protest march to the presidential Blue House in Seoul, about 250 miles to the north, saying they wanted to voice their complaints to Park.

They walked for about six hours before police officers in neon jackets blocked a main road.

A woman with a blue baseball cap shouted at government officials who were seated nearby, working at their desks. ‘‘I can’t live like this! I’m so anxious!’’ she yelled. ‘‘How can I trust the police?’’

"The government is the killer," they shouted as they pushed against a police barricade. "We want an answer from the person in charge about why orders are not going through and nothing is being done," said Lee Woon-geun, father of 17-year-old missing passenger Lee Jung-in. "They are clearly lying and kicking the responsibility to others."

Where I had to go to get that printed quote the web version whacked.

"South Korea’s president excoriates ferry captain, crew" by Chico Harlan | Washington Post   April 22, 2014

MOKPO, South Korea — President Park Geun-hye’s comments came in the face of steady criticism about her government’s response to the disaster amid a growing sense of fury in South Korea about alleged criminal incompetence aboard the ferry Sewol.

The confirmed death toll rose to 104 on Monday, the Associated Press reported. About 200 people remain missing.

Divers were unable for days to enter the submerged ship because of strong currents, bad weather, and low visibility. Over the weekend they were able to use a new entryway through the dining hall, rapidly increasing the recovery of bodies....

As South Korea mourns and prepares for a long series of funerals, it is also grappling with an emerging criminal case that could sort out some of the responsibility for the disaster. Some South Koreans, though acknowledging the apparent irresponsibility of the crew, said Park’s comments on the case were made prematurely and could complicate the already emotional proceedings....

That flight to Iran vanished (maybe it, too, went to Diego Garcia), but the Malaysian search showed up again:

"A Malaysian official on Saturday asked the world to ‘‘pray hard’’ for a clue to help find Flight 370. Meanwhile, the exhausting search, which continues to raise more questions than answers, has tormented the families whose loved ones were aboard Flight 370. About two-thirds of the passengers were Chinese. There have been numerous leads throughout the painstaking hunt, but all have turned out to be false. The search coordination center has said the hunt for floating debris on the surface will continue at least into next week....

They have been reduced to prayers now, huh?

As the search continued off Australia for the missing Malaysia Airlines jet on Monday, the airline revealed that another plane bound for India was forced to make an emergency landing after one of its tires burst on takeoff. The incident added drama to an airline already under pressure for answers from the public and the families of those missing from Flight 370 more than six weeks after it departed the same airport."

And there is now a cyclone in the search area, causing further delaying and disturbing the alleged crash site?

"Plane stowaway OK, but trip raises security concerns" | Associated Press   April 22, 2014

SAN JOSE, Calif. — A 16-year-old boy scrambled over an airport fence, crossed a tarmac, and climbed into a jetliner’s wheel well, then flew for five freezing hours to Hawaii — a misadventure that stirred concern about possible weak spots in the security system that protects the nation’s airline fleet.

So what false flag is in the works?

The boy, who lives in Santa Clara, Calif., and attends a local high school, hopped out of the wheel well of a Boeing 767 on the Maui airport tarmac Sunday. Authorities found him wandering around the airport grounds with no identification. He was questioned by the FBI and taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was found to be unharmed.

FBI spokesman Tom Simon in Honolulu said the teen did not remember the flight from San Jose. It was not immediately clear how the boy stayed alive in the unpressurized space, where temperatures at cruising altitude can fall well below zero and the air is too thin for humans to stay conscious. An FAA study of stowaways found that some went into a hibernation-like state.

Yeah, this story really stinks like some others.

Could they be planted stories so outrageous to suggest that the every day lies simply must be true?

Somehow, the boy managed to slip through multiple layers of security, including wide-ranging video surveillance, German shepherds, and Segway-riding police officers.

Yeah, somehow.

Security footage from the San Jose airport verified that the boy climbed a fence and crossed a runway to get to Hawaiian Airlines Flight 45 on Sunday morning, Simon said.

The airport, in the heart of Silicon Valley, is surrounded by fences, although many sections do not have barbed wire and could easily be scaled.

The boy climbed over during the night, ‘‘under the cover of darkness,’’ San Jose airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said Monday.

Airport police were working with the FBI and the Transportation Security Administration to review security.

The boy was released to child protective services in Hawaii and not charged with a crime, Simon said.

Who does his family know?
