Slow Saturday Special: Cup of Coffey

Tastes sharp:

"Weymouth man arrested in England for assaulting woman" by Laura Crimaldi | Globe Staff   April 25, 2014

WEYMOUTH - A Weymouth man was arrested in England after police there say he allegedly broke into the home of a woman he met online and attacked her with a knife in her bedroom, according to police and court records filed in Massachusetts.

Here is a news flash: I once again have a rewritten and reedited piece of crap on my hands. So I order up a coffee and the Globe gives me the wrong f***ing flavor.

My printed paragraph, such as it is:

Through the world of online gaming, 19-year-old Shane M. Coffey found friends more than 3,200 miles away in England, but the long-distance relationships did not last.

Shane M. Coffey, 19, traveled last week from Boston to Epsom, 17 miles southwest of London, where he allegedly attacked an 18-year-old woman who had broken off their online relationship, police said.

When one of those faraway friends, an 18-year-old woman, ended her ties to Coffey on Christmas Eve, police allege that the Weymouth man hatched a violent plot that culminated April 18 when he broke into her home in a small town near London and stabbed her in her bedroom.

Details of the alleged attack are spelled out in a Weymouth police report, which includes an account of the events written by police in Surrey, the county where the incident took place last Friday at about 4:30 a.m. British police officials believe Coffey planned the attack and brought a knife, zip ties, and tape to the woman’s home, according to an affidavit written by Weymouth police Detective David Galvin.

Left that alone because although not verbatim it gets us to the second half of the piece.

Coffey met the woman and two other people, who were not identified, playing video games online with the Xbox system, Galvin wrote.

I'm so glad I never got into that $hit, and yet regret having gotten into what I have (analyzing the flag$hit).

Coffey and the woman They communicated via text messages and the mobile messaging app WhatsApp, the report said. Coffey also gave her gifts, which he demanded back after she ended their relationship on Dec. 24, the report said.

That's always a real lover's move.

It was unclear how long their relationship lasted.

I don't see how that could be. How did he game the NSA?

And what game is the Globe playing making me type this by hand?

He began booking travel and accommodations in England in February, when he bought a ticket to fly from Boston to Heathrow Airport in London on April 16, the report said.

Coffey reserved a taxi and hotel room in Epsom and also made a reservation at a Holiday Inn near Heathrow, which he later canceled, the report said.

Mistake number one: you are smarter when you stay at a Holiday Inn.

At some point, he purchased tickets to attend a concert in Amsterdam and booked air travel to go there from London on April 20, the report said.

Coffey was due to fly home from Amsterdam this Sunday, the report said.

Carved himself out a real round trip.

Police searching his hotel in Epsom found a Google map of the route between the hotel and the woman's house.

Leaving the NSA and GCHQ a trail of bread crumbs, 'eh?

Police in Weymouth searched Coffey’s home on Lincoln Street Saturday, court records show.

During a search of Coffey's home in Weymouth, police took an Xbox 360 game console, gaming equipment, nylon cable ties, computer equipment, a zombie video game called "Dead Island: Riptide," a package of shower caps, a black KA-BAR knife and sheath, photographs, and other items.

No one answered the door there Friday afternoon, and a message left for a relative listed in a police report was not immediately returned.

Many neighbors said they did not know anyone who lives at Coffey's address.

Coffey attended Weymouth public schools, but withdrew in July 2009, the superintendent's office said.

"Girl fatally stabbed at Connecticut school on day of prom" by Nate Schweber and Michael Schwirtz | New York Times   April 26, 2014

MILFORD, Conn. — A 16-year-old student was stabbed to death in the hallway of a Connecticut high school Friday morning, the day of the school’s junior prom.

After the Sandy Hook hoax who knows if any of these are true, but accepting them at face value gives you clues to the overall agenda -- teaching the kids to get accustomed to tyranny.

Authorities arrested a 16-year-old male student and charged him as a juvenile with murder, and police said they were looking into reports that a dispute about the prom might have prompted the attack.

No one has said anything but what prescription pharmaceuticals, if any, were these kids on?

The killing occurred around 7:15 a.m., just as the school day was about to begin. Students crammed the halls of Jonathan Law High School, some giddily anticipating donning gowns and tuxedos later that day.

A scream cut the air, and there was momentary confusion as students were hustled into classrooms and told to stay. In one of the halls beneath a stairwell, Maren Sanchez, 16, a well-liked member of the drama club known for her singing voice, lay dying.

She had been stabbed, the authorities said, by another student.

Chief Keith Mello of the Milford Police Department said that officials had not made any rulings on possible motives but that investigators were looking into reports that the victim had declined an invitation to the prom....

I think dating in the form of dances should be taken out of the schools. It only leads to stabbings. If guns kill people then dances cause stabbings, right?

I say that in all sarcasm, of course. As in Korea, this becomes a tragic memory at a time one should be celebrating.

And now we have a note on the mug:

"Teen allegedly wrote note before attack" AP   April 26, 2014

PITTSBURGH — The Pennsylvania teen accused of stabbing 21 people at his high school wrote a note saying he couldn’t wait to see the ‘‘helpless looks’’ on his victims’ faces, according to a new criminal complaint filed Friday in the case.

Alex Hribal, 16, is now charged with 21 counts of attempted homicide, up from four. One of the victims was a security guard. Police said the signed note found in Hribal’s locker was dated April 6, three days before the rampage at Franklin Regional High School near Pittsburgh.

No offense, but does that ever smell like a plant by authority!

And now we are being told they found a note weeks later that predates the attack?

According to the criminal complaint assistant, vice principal Samuel King grabbed Hribal in the bloody hallway and took him to the floor.

Hribal allegedly refused to drop the two knives he was carrying and said, ‘‘No, I am not dropping them; my work is not done, I have more people to kill,’’ King said.

Then why was I told he was blank-faced before?

The note read in part: ‘‘I can’t wait to see the priceless and helpless looks on the faces of the students of one of the ‘best schools in Pennsylvania’ realize their precious lives are going to be taken by the only one among them that isn’t a plebian.’’

Hribal’s attorney, Patrick Thomassey, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Two students remain hospitalized after the attack.

"Builder gets year in judge kickback case" April 26, 2014

SCRANTON, Pa. — A builder of for-profit youth detention centers was sentenced Friday to a year in prison for his role in a notorious juvenile justice scandal in which thousands of young offenders were sent to his facilities by a judge who took money from him.

All he got was a year for sending innocent kids to the slammer? Maybe they were troubled, but the fact is those that are not these days are either insane, in denial, or the 1% lording it over us all.

The builder, Robert Mericle, was also fined $250,000 and ordered to serve 100 hours of community service by a federal judge who increased the sentence recommended by prosecutors, citing the severity of the crime and Mericle’s lies to investigators about what he knew of the judge’s scheme.

I would have also imposed an additional penalty of allowing the kids to spit in his face.

Mericle, the last major figure in the so-called ‘‘kids for cash’’ scandal to be sentenced, apologized to the court. ‘‘I’m ashamed to be here. But I put myself here,’’ he said.

I'm $orry we got caught.

Good people do not even consider such schemes, folks.

Prosecutors said two judges in northeastern Pennsylvania accepted $2.1 million in illegal payments from Mericle.

That gets you pretty close to the 1%, and definitely puts them in the top 5% where the wealth is going.

Former Luzerne County Judges Michael Conahan and Mark Ciavarella Jr. plotted to shut down the dilapidated county-run juvenile detention center in 2002 and arrange for the construction of the PA Child Care facility outside Wilkes-Barre and a second lockup in western Pennsylvania.

And guess what? Those kids will never, ever, trust well-meaning authority for the rest of their lives.
