These eggs stink!

"Fines of $6.8m would settle egg case" Associated Press   June 03, 2014

IOWA CITY — An Iowa company will pay $6.8 million in fines for selling old eggs with false labels for years as well as the tainted products that caused a nationwide salmonella outbreak in 2010, according to a tentative plea agreement released Monday....

Quality Egg could also be ordered to pay restitution to victims. It operated businesses in Iowa that produced more than 1 million eggs daily. The government blamed its tainted shell eggs for a 2010 salmonella outbreak that led to thousands of cases of food poisoning. The DeCosters have since left the industry.

I'm glad I don't eat eggs regularly, and only use local when I do.

"Dunkin’ Donuts debuts chicken flatbread" Bloomberg News   June 03, 2014

Dunkin’ Donuts introduced a $3.99 grilled-chicken flatbread Monday, following Starbucks’s move last month to test seven new hot lunch sandwiches in some cafes — part of an effort to boost afternoon sales after the morning java business subsides.

At coffee and doughnut shops, 65 percent of customer traffic happens in the morning, according to NPD Group. Lunch and afternoon snack time is about a third of traffic; dinner just 2 percent.

Dunkin’ launched a cafe-style store redesign last year, to encourage diners to hang out in the afternoon. In the past year, it’s also added nonbreakfast food items and introduced a loyalty program.

Starbucks began offering new sandwiches in 178 cafes in Phoenix and Richmond on May 6. The test includes a grilled-chicken sandwich with bacon and swiss for $5.95.

Dunkin’ aims to impress diners with the marinade on its sandwich, Canton-based Dunkin’ Brands Group said. It declined to disclose the ingredients.
